This beautiful circular walk on Loughrigg Fell is ranked as the top Central Fells Walk on the All Trails app. This incredible and very accessible 12.1km (7.5 mile) walk takes us from Under Loughrigg Road, next to Ambleside up onto the fells on a very stable path with beautiful views. Loughrigg has more paths than any other lakeland fell but the main path which we will be following is clear and obvious all the way to Tarn Foot Farm. Turning right at the farm we head past the campsite and onto Loughrigg Tarn, one of the largest and most stunning tarns in Lakeland. Loughrigg is a Wainwright and in the books Wainwright notes that Loughrigg tarn is the only tarn to be named after a neighbouring fell.
Continuing our journey we soon get to the wood and make our ascent to Loughrigg Fell’s summit. After admiring the views over the neighbouring Fairfield and Langdale ranges we head back down the path and continue along the path with Grasmere at our side and then move on to the shores of Rydal Water.
Further on we encounter the stepping stones which cross the River Rothay before completing the walk back at the bridge. This is a beautiful walk and I really hope you enjoy it!
