As I get older and practice yoga and meditation, I realized that the managed discomfort I feel in the stretches of yoga is a practice of accepting that discomfort to help me learn how to breath through and accept the emotional pain in life when it occurs. I go to the edge of the yoga stretch discomfort and hold and breath and think , "accept, accept -this is like life's pains so breath and accept." This is the letting go for me.

To say “life shouldn’t hurt” suggests that when one experiences pain, they ought to deny its existence rather than accept it. The experience of emotional, physical, and mental pain are fundamental to the experience of emotional, physical and mental pleasure. A peak experience is seen as a peak because it can be compared to the low and difficult points. You can’t have the positive end without the negative end because their relationship to each other, define each other. The ability to look up can only exist if there is also the ability to look down. Without down, there would be no up, it would just be and no one would take notice.

@@galepressley8769 - In reality "life is suffering" in some form or the other for all living beings. Each person experiences it to varying degrees depending on his/her life circumstances. That is why mental balance is vital for a calm and less stressful life. These are life's realities that were mentioned by Buddha more than 2500 years ago.

I am a 60 years old active woman. I love and have been practicing yoga daily for the past 16 years . Travis your story about the monks and letting go brought me to tears. This has been so powerful and a huge impact on my life. I'm so grateful to have been recommend your channel by a friend. For a long time I had been frustrated with a chest injury that hadn't gone away for over a year. But through that injury I discovered yoga, and thats had far more of a positive effect on my life than any negative the injury can have on it. Funny how the universe works sometimes. We can always find some good even in the most challenging and dark circumstances. That's something my dad told me and has stuck with me. Anyway thanks so much for what you do. You've changed my life and so many others too!

I've been doing a lot of weights this week, and for some reason, this particular yin practice just hit at the perfect time with all the right stretches. I could probably go back and do the whole sequence all over again and be that much better for it. Love these!

Kinda late to this video, just completed this practice, and man this felt like therapy for my body - I have messed up shoulders, and sitting a lot sure doesn't help my body in any way, so I will be sure to incorporate these sweet yin practices into my yoga routine. As an engineer I drive a lot between jobs, this is my go to Yin. Perfect overall time and length between stretches. I used to subscribe to inner dimension TV and loved it, back on the free videos on KZfaq for now and thank you for providing them :)

Wow wow wow. The teacher at my studio was feeling sick today so our weekly Sunday yin was cancelled. As i am about to go get certified as a yoga teacher myself i am not skipping many practices so I headed to KZfaq to fill the void and came across this. What an amazing practice. Today doing this class I released a bunch of emotions while doing deer pose, both sides, I felt so much gratitude and then I started crying releasing so much stuff. I have practiced yoga for almost 10 years and this had never happened to me. I am not even sure what they were, but I needed to thank you for it. 🕉

Hello Travis: I just stopped by to enjoy some Yin Yoga. I am a longtime Iyengar studet and just wanted a change of pace. Well I got that change, and it was delicious! Wonderful class. Thank you for this generous class and many others on this platform. The lateral flexion movements was just what I needed today. As I’m getting older, I’m losing the flexibility that I had as a professional dancer. No truer words have been said, “if you don’t use it, you’ll loose it.” As I’m getting older, i gravitate to yin yoga for various reasons but mostly to release everything the body, mind and spirit holds on to. When I first stated yoga 20 years ago the yoga class was like this. After that it become kind of yoga movement which is good for exercise. We did the Sun salutation just for few minutes to warm up and then started doing this slow yoga. It works wonder with deep breathing. This poses are real yoga medicine.
