4 жыл бұрынIn this episode of Frame Data, we’re going to take a trip back to Yoshi’s Story, this time looking at Game 2 of the Top 32 set between Westballz and S2J at The Roast of Hugo Gonzalez. In Episode 3, we briefly discussed some of the intricacies of Yoshi’s Story - specifically how Randall can create interesting situations by presenting a moving platform and a new set of recovery options. This breakdown will discuss another hazard of Yoshi’s Story, and how this one pesky Shy Guy turned the tide of the match in S2J’s favor.

Goddamn S2J's defensive game is so refined. I would have definitely cracked in multiple of those pressure situations from Westballz and S2J was able to avoid the pressure where if he got hit 1 time, he most likely would have died.

I love this series so much, I rewatch all of them from time to time, especially the zain vs rishi one. It is really incredible how you can transform a few seconds of a game in a so well delivered analysis. Keep it up with the good work :^)

3:18 Falcon's raptor boost doesn't "sneak" under lasers, it dodges them. It's a special property of the move. also great video

Yep! It has projectile invincibility for a majority of the move's duration (starting on Frame 15). What I was saying there was meant to touch more on lasering the startup of Falcon's Raptor Boost where he can still be hit, as his profile changes and a high laser would miss.

Consider adding a short description of what the series is about (the general idea/approach) in the description! Since it already (so beautifully) says “in this episode of...”, it could also say “frame data is a series where I...”. Just a thought! GREAT content as always, man

Also almost nobody does it, but spacie getup attack *is* reactable with shield, and doing so will almost surely net you a powershield.

6:40 - You can actually launch people with spikes during the first few frames off missed tech when they first collide with the ground.

how do you perform a frame-1 shield drop? Do you just absolutely need to either have the notches or know the angle, or is there another technique that is input as he's falling, similar to the basic "tilt shield to side, then slam down" beginner shield-drop technique.

@@turndownforwalt The amount of research that has gone into this looks insane, the editing is probably the best I have seen in any Smash Channel probably, the player spotlights capture the player's personality really well (even the music). I haven't managed to watch all the weekly highlights, but I have watched enough to know bro.

srry for the late comment but is it weird while watching this all i could think about is someone fighting an sjw in a debate. if you see here he goes for a dear but if he would have gone for a bare he would have made the platform and tech to land on the platform. in this frame you can see the difference in how different characters fall after being hit in a frame.

We have the power to mod the game, removing the shy guys are extremely easy. Why don’t we utalize mods? No shy guys, no stadium transformations, no DL wind. Hell you could even reduce ledge invincibility and other changes to improve the game. UCF is the only mod we really use but there’s a lot more potential. Kinda got on an unrelated tangent but still, no more shy guys

It's a slippery slope, but certainly worth talking about! I can see both sides to the argument though, plus without Shy Guys we wouldn't have cool moments like these to break down!

turndownforwalt it’s a cool moment I’m not going to argue that, and I do understand the slippery slope argument. If we remove shy guys, why not add completely new stages? If we reduce ledge invincibility, fundamentally reworking a part of the game, why not buff low tiers? While I personally think those are good at least in concept, I can see the view of if we change melee too much it ceases to be melee

Also very specific criticism that might just be me, but I get mildly nauseated when you play the same short clip over and over while talking. Not sure why, and there probably isn't a better way to do it.

I'm so sorry about that! I'm not too sure if there's another way to do it, unless I were to incorporate more freeze frames into the sequence to stop the motion. It's something I'll consider in the future though!

@@turndownforwalt No worries, I have very specific visual, uh, triggers? So I wouldn't expect anyone to work around them. I get looping visuals in fever dreams so probably related.
