Portable Electric Transportation/ Vehicles are definitely on the rise. EUCs or Electric Unicycle's fall into a niche within a niche so I wanted to explore the two reasons why EUC's may not go mainstream.
What do you think will prevent Electric Unicycles from going mainstream?

Wow. This is a way to promote things. I think I speak for all EUC riders when I say I wish the world's first mains of transport was the EUC device. But we all know that is a story far fetched and maby unlikely. I always get stoped and asked about my EUC but it's almost like with a fear in people's voice and of course admiration. That admiration part is the part I think is it's strength slowly bringing it to the light. When I ride it I just feel so sad that so many people are missing on such a great device. When people ask me is it hard I say to them: Do you remember the joy and the sensation you had learning how to ride a bike when you were just a kid? Well you get to do it again only it's way to cooler now😅.

I find that the best way to convince people is by actually showing them a PEV (portable electric vehicle) as often they've never even seen one in person, only online. It helps to demystify them. Seeing them in use helps normalise them too, even if they are currently illegal...
@TheCreativeNomad

I’m recovering from a high speed cutout accident on my KS S18. I’m relatively new to the EUC world and the S18 is my first wheel. However, I’ve ridden unicycles my whole life and learning to ride the EUC took me about 30 minutes and probably made me over confident on the EUC. The S18 cut out catastrophically at 30mph at the end of a 10 mile jaunt around my neighborhood. During that ride my mileage tripped over 300, so probably still not a pro but not a beginner either. I was carving a right turn but nothing dramatic, certainly not approaching an angle induced cut out. The wheel just stopped working, meaning the pedals had no resistance making it like riding an axel with no way to correct body position. I was on a wonderfully smooth road, no potholes or noticeable imperfections. I remember bending at the waste to try and catch myself but it wasn’t enough to keep me off the pavement. I had good protective gear on but still broke my clavicle and tore my right ACL (knee ligament), along with significant road rash underneath my jeans. I tend to take responsibility for my actions, but don’t really see how this is user error. The wheel had trained me that it would tilt back to slow me down when I was going too fast, such that I depended on that plus the audible alarm to retrieve som margin. In this case neither the alarm nor the tilt back occurred, it just stopped working. I’m recovering from surgery on my clavicle (turns out is was quite shattered) and will have to have surgery on my knee to repair the ACL. But I don’t think I’ll ride the EUC again, and I can’t in good conscience sell it to somebody else knowing this could happen. Is my wheel uniquely flawed or just me??

Hi. Great video. However, don’t get too comfortable riding without your PPE (personal protective equipment). It’s when we get too comfortable when riding that the unexpected happens. Just yesterday I was looking at one of my euc helmets that had a nice gash from a previous crash. Elbow, knee and wrist guards can all combine to save the day to. Keep up the good work. Ride safe 🙏

I love the video too and well put together narrative. Well done!!! but I cannot emphasize enough (like you) the safety element which being too confident can blurr its necessity.... Please wear the Helmet...it is made for a reason... Safety... an elbow graze or a few broken bones can heal...protect your head..

Fully agree the learning curve and the high risk of injury in a crash will ensure that EUC is never mainstream. Plus the high price. I don’t think the fact that it’s “environmentally friendly” makes much difference either way for a product people don’t understand in the first place.

Denielle, you’re 100% the BEST ambassador for EUC in the UK, and beyond! I would go as far as to say that you are THE ‘acceptable face of electric wheels’, our best chance of getting our voice heard and cause promoted in legislation, and humanity’s best hope to get the testosterone-fuelled speed obsessed boys to just “slow down, listlen to the lady” and ‘see the beauty’ of, and on, the e-wheel. I just subscribed to the ‘thinking riders’ champion’ channel. Greetings from Grampian, Scotland!

Great video! +1 subscriber. I believe the EUC's are already quite exclusive because of the learning curve and the dangers involved. One more thing. I have a Ninebot Mini Pro, an Inmotion V5F and an electric scooter - and 9 times out of 10 I use the scooter. That's because I feel safer about it. In case the motor or battery decides to give up on me, I am coasting on the scooter. While on the EUC or Mini Pro that is 100% a faceplant.
@TheCreativeNomad
@TheCreativeNomad 4 жыл бұрын
Very true, the fear factor/ dangers are huge deterrents for some. You've ranked up a nice variety of PEV's though! Doesn't the tiltback warning appease your cutoff concerns? I once considered the scooter route but to me there's no feeling like riding an EUC.

Great video! Really high production value! IMHO, EUCs will never go mainstream, simply due to the lack of brakes and the single point of contact to the ground. This makes the EUCs slow to come to a sudden stop, and easy loose control of and fall on your face. Its an amazing mode of transportation, but only as long as not everybody use them.

Excellent again..Thank you. An interesting question. I notice that you, like Mike Sacristan of ‘isthereanyfood’ and indeed myself, do not dress like star troopers or ninja warriors when riding. I usually only wear wrist guards and sometime knee pads under my trousers. I also have one of the excellent Lazyrolling hoodie armoured jackets..that looks and wears just like an ordinary hoodie. I ride like this because I do not want to look intimidating or aggressive to others on the paths or side walks. Also, for me, it would take away a lot of the sense of freedom to be armoured up..as well as a complete PITA to have to put on all that stuff each time I want to ride.. Off road, ok, more difficult terrain = more possibilities to fall, so maybe more gear. What is your opinion Denielle and do you get criticisms for not dressing in the full combat gear?

Great video. You inspired us to get one, I just ordered my first EUC V10, we were wondering if we could help you in making EUC legal in the UK, is there any way we can start a campaign for legislation to amend 1800-year-old road motor laws in the UK, by maybe seeing local MPs in our own boroughs, etc.

You won’t be disappointed with the V10! Yep it’s annoying such an outdated law is still enforced. I’m talking to my local MP about it being discussed in Commons so definitely speak to your local MP too. The more of us who do so the better then the Transport Minister may re-open calls for consultation if it’s pushed.

The EUC won't go mainstream yet, I think the technology needs to improve more, and Road Legislation needs to include these types of vehicles!.. and we need a seperate bike lane infrastructure network right across the UK.. Also people tend to follow like sheep, there simply are not enough people riding around on them to convince others that these are a worthwhile buy. I have been riding an EUC for 2 years now and I have never met anybody else riding one yet. Most people who see these think they are cool, but their questions are, Are they easy to ride?.. 🤔 How many times have you crashed? 🤔 How does it move? 🤔 I assume you hold on to that handle? 🤔 (look of fear when you tell them that you don't) These devices are not easy to learn despite some on here who say you can ride within 5 mins.. It depends on the individuals capabilities and where you intend to ride it. If in a field, maybe a day or two to get to grips, If you want to ride on a main road then the process is far longer!..you need to know all about your machine and have confidence in it, also the dangers of riding on the road etc etc... So none of these questions are easy to answer!.. This is another put off.. As most of us have learnt to ride a bike the thought of riding something without a handle nor a brake caliper is another put off, the learning curve and lack of knowledge about the machines is an instant put off to most people, and if it doesn't then price does(probably only because they are potentially investing in something they know nothing about, is it reliable?, build quality?, how long will the rechargeable batteries last?.. There are so many hurdles to jump before totally commiting to a purchase that most will be put off!... and that is the reason why they won't go mainstream at the moment!... Put one in a James Bond movie, or in a Coca Cola advert and who knows that might change! 😊... Anyway great presentation!!.. Stay Safe and Happy Riding! 🤗

Bicycles have been around forever. Well, long enough that laws accommodate them. The problem with Electruc Unicycles is they fit somewhere between a pedestrian, a bicyclist, and a motorcycle. Drivers are looking out for other big boxy vehicles. Motorcyclists often get overlooked. Head on a swivel and enough power to do a wheelie, and if they see it coming, they get out of the way. Some of the bigger unicycles can go 50 mph (80 kph) so they can keep up with city traffic. That is a problem for jurisdictions that are afraid of law suits. It is also a resentment problem of giving freedom of movement to the riffraff. Think about Roman Chariot drivers who made a sport out of running down children, to demonstrate their superiority. A bicycle is man powered. There is a limited speed envelope. Generally, no license is required. There is a revenue problem. The authorities want to be compensated for policing misbehavior. They also want a revenue stream to increase their bureaucratic footprint and self importance. We are living in a nanny state that demands subservience. People who can't successfully run their own lives are sure that you have the same problem and need a nanny. There is a difference between skill and cunning. Bureaucrats are cunning.

Eco friendly? Only walking and nothing else (horse maybe?) is eco friendly! EUC worth 1000USD and it is full of batteries, made with no ECO standarts in China, but we pretend we are OK and ECO here on the other side of Earth riding it... what a nonsence.

Every component has a shelf life including batteries within EUC's. The comparator of friendliness to the environment is based on the major modes of transportation used i.e. cars, trains, planes. To only list walking and horse riding as eco- friendly evidently shows you've missed the point. Thanks for watching though and providing your opinion.

The following is sequestered knowledge, so don't take it the wrong way. The exotic materials and manufacturing process necessary to build all modern electronic devices (EVs, computers, etc) are much more damaging to the environment than petrol-fueled automobiles. Carbon is plant food and the Earth is greener than it has ever been. Most EV's are produced in China, which uses political prisoners as slave labor, and for organ harvesting. I ride EVs because I refuse to be robbed by the Dept. of Transportation and the Highway Patrol- and because I require motion sport for my mental health. Please wear a helmet. Brains are precious cargo.

Nope, there's no wrong way to take it. Other than being a valid but different opinion to my own. These issues seem like more of a matter of ethics as opposed to sustainability. To me saying the Earth is as green as it's ever been indicates a lack of acknowledgement towards the damage fossil fuels have and are causing. I'd be very interested in the background of the writer you sourced this info from and what parameters they use to define damaging. As for China, with their economy being so heavily steeped in manufacturing and industry they simply uphold the adage 'supply and demand' therefore the onus isn't on them. Unfortunately, in the West we point the finger of 'ethics' yet our actions of an insatiable desire for "more of the latest and greatest" ensures that this remains rhetoric. I'd love to see more industrialisation in Britain to mitigate this but whether or not that will be done is a matter of politics which is an essay, headache, and nightmare all in one. In the interim I'll continue to do my part and like you enjoy my EUC and all the benefits they bring.

@@TheCreativeNomad Here's something about strip mining and the toxic metals that go into advanced electronics. sciencing.com/technological-advancement-effect-ecosystem-23107.html Here's a clip about the Chinese government's organ harvesting program. But for our purposes, I'd be more concerned about the practices of companies like Apple. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLNhjd2IytnMdp8.html Here's something from NASA about the Earth being greener than ever. climate.nasa.gov/news/2436/co2-is-making-earth-greenerfor-now/ A government piece on why plants need carbon dioxide. www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/00-077.htm Here's something that should have a helmet on over at speeds in excess of 15mph: Your Noggin.
