Is it too much too soon for Steve Erceg? Probably yes. But maybe not. Anyway, that's the main event of UFC 301.

I prefer them because they tend to spend more time on a fight than slack. Their analysis is much more attribute based than slack though. They care more about athleticism but they have a point so I don't blame them especially after 500 episodes and the quality of events going on.

The UFC had long since moved away from basing tjtle fight match-ups on any semblance of merit. It is all about doing the minimal in meeting that ESPN quota and in this era availability, timing, and clout are everything. Erceg isn't the most deserving contender, but I don't even think the UFC cares that much about the rankings. Erceg was available and, due to their own dumb scheduling, few others were. On top of that, Erceg gained a lityle notoriety. Lastly, they're probably paying him jack all for this fignt. He is headlining a PPV on the cheap.

Also, I suspect that, at a minimum, the absence of USADA means Aldo can rehydrate with an IV, which by itself may have motivated the return.

erceg was a Australian national champ in wrestling which is atleast at impressive as a state title in the us.

@@5naxalotl not a good state like Minnesota or Pennsylvania. I knew guys who picked up wrestling in highschool and went on to win titles in north Dakota. Just referencing it cause they made it seem like hes a noobie when he has some reps at least.

MMA is a young man's sport and Aldo is super old in terms of mileage if not actual years. Still, he retired while still having elite level skills and attributes. He arguably deserved that BW title fight before losing to a lackluster clinch fest by Merab.

I genuinely don't understand this narrative that old fighters are suddenly doing super well post USADA. Are we seriously going to say that Chris Weidman looked good getting an eyepoke win against the worst fighter he's faced since 2011? Did OSP look good, or did he just barely survive against a historically inconsistent and low output LHW? Did Luque look better this year than he did last year? What about Cejudo? Did RDA look better against Gamrot than he did against Bryan Barberena? People have been saying that post USADA is going to make a difference since last year (before there was any evidence) and now everyone is just desperately trying to to cherry pick evidence that supports their assumptions while completely ignoring the numerous cases that go against it
