Toyota Tacoma regear! Today we are installing 5.29 Yukon gears and ARB lockers on my 2021 Tacoma. This is not rocket science, but it does take a very clear understanding of how these parts operate. Every detail is important in the setup process and it's worth taking the time to research different install methods. If you have the right tooling and patience, you can do this job but there is no shame in hiring a professional.
I hope this video can help you make that decision 👊.

One thing I noticed in this video is how much you cleaned and prepped your parts. Nothing you reassembled was dirty, greasy, or old RTV hanging on anywhere. It make the build good easy more smooth. Good job on taking a highly technical content and making it where everybody can understated it.

"Desert does it" has a compressor under seat mount that might work. Switch pros on a powertray mount (underhood) with a SDHQ mount (in cab) are what I would recommend. Looks OEM.

Switch pro 9100 is the only way to go for switch panels! Also there used to be a place off 512 and Steele st called tacoma speedometer. They are great dudes with a lot of information that I’m sure could help you with calibration. Rad build man, can’t wait to see it complete!

Switch pros are the way to go! There are mounts for the panels that go in the coin tray low left of the steering wheel and in the sunglasses holder in the headliner. Both great spots. Get an expedition essentials dash mount and you'll have a ton of 1/4-20 mounting options. I have a sp9100 on the dash and in the headliner.

Expedition Essentials for the bedside cubby bracket , fits ARB single or twin compressor, I have a twin. They also have a plug and play harness that looks like factory Toyota, runs up to battery. Love love love mine. As stated before switch pro for switch panel. Tuning CVC tune. Will fix Speedo too. Several tuners in the Seattle area .. will fix shifting issues and Speedo. PRO hood. I love how it looks. Cresting sucks. Put a switch in you can control front and rear cameras on demand. I added front camera and switch to select camera.

S-Tech makes some good switch systems that are vehicle specific. I think SPOD also makes some vehicle specific mounting stuff and their switch panel runs to relays to handle some heavier currents. If you want a wireless option that you can slap a 4 switch (remote switch controlling relays) in a non specific spot in the truck, TRIGGER makes a nice wireless option.

Can't wait to see this thing in action when its done! Speedometer calibration - I went with an inline module. Program the tire size on your computer and install behind the dash. Super easy. Rough country or Hypertech. Expedition Essentials bedside compressor mount is pretty sweet. I'll be doing that one some day. Hides whatever compressor you prefer behind the larger cubby in the bed. There are some good solutions out there to mount in the engine compartment too I believe. I like rocker switches but didn't find too many great solutions that got you more than 3 switches. Seems like everyone likes the switch pros setup but I was stubborn and cut a hole in my sunglasses holder to add a bigger rocker switch panel. Had the sunglass holder instead of crawl control deal since I got a manual trd off-road.

Really excited to see this all together at Hammers! You'll have to come and find us so we can get the rigs together. The switch panel definitely looks into SDHQ Bezel for a Switch-Pro, Yukon makes a little compressor that's easy to package specific to lockers but you'd have to get crafty. Hypertech makes a speedo calibrator that we have used on a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Talk ADV Fiberglass into making some crazy cool hood, they have been killing it with the new Bronco. Good work Nate, stoked for the final product!

As someone who is a mechanical engineer for an industrial gearing company it is great to see someone taking the time to explain gears, how they work in a differential and explaining the verbiage so people who don't know anything about gearing can understand it better. Also as someone who does buildups for gearboxes and such, a lot of times it makes sense to us because we're the one's the designed and built it even after peer review. That is not to say we don't make the explanation simple, easy or in some cases make since. Feedback on instructions is always appreciated and it helps us, the engineers, help you, the customer, achieve your goals. That being said if there is ever something you notice, like checking the gap with a feeler gauge with all the shims in and how difficult it was, that you think of a better way to do, reach out and let them know.

Just bought a 21 TRD OR 4x4 in a automatic just like yours and just love it , I went with the fox by pass shocks on all 4 corners 1.5 inch lift in the front and 1 inch lift for the rear, with TRD pro wheels and Toyo AT3’s that are 32inch tall it’s my daily , but for the slight suspension lift with 1 size bigger tire I’m impressed with what it does off road, I can’t imagine what yours will do with 38’s lol that’s some serious transformation, keep up the great work Nate , can’t wait to see this built all done and on the trails 👍🏻

If you're in the PNW we need more Elbe Hills and Naches Trail content! I grew up in Eatonville and I had a 94 YJ Wrangler in highschool (was my first car) that I bought bone stock. My friends family was into Jeepspeed and had a couple desert racing rigs that they took up to Elbe often. They helped me spring over lift my YJ and put it on 33s. Was a rad little weekend warrior. My friends and I went up to Elbe all the time back in 2011-2013. My little YJ did every trail except the huge mud pits in the Busy Wild lol. Those just break axles so I didnt ever want to try it. But my little rig never let me down for nearly 3 years of abuse before I sold it. The tiny dana 30 and dana 35 never snapped lol. Makes me want a wheeling rig again but I just dont have the space to work on one anymore. Some of my favorite memories were made on those trails man. Good times gooooood times.

I swapped in an LSD for the factory open diff in my BMW. I reused the same shims and everything looked good. I think most of the tolerance you are accounting for with the shims is in the cast parts. The machines parts like the LSD or the gears are probably kept to much tighter tolerances because that's not hard with a machined part. I know the cast parts have machines areas for the bearings to sit, but it seems like that milling process it not as accurate as when the gears and LSD/locker housing. that might come down to fixturing and what is practical in a mass production environment. That RCLT kit is pretty cool. I look forward to seeing the front end come together. I think the weak point is still going to be the factory front axle and maybe the rear axle as well, but 38" stickies will be an interesting case study. I wonder if you could narrow a full width axle with an off center pumpkin and get custom short axle shafts to keep it IFS. I know some KOH teams run IFS, but that is with a centered pumpkin. Maybe a front axle center section with semi float rear axle tubes and ends to give you a nice flange to bolt inner CVs to. I know the stock setup has a splined shaft on the inner CV, but CVs are available that bolt to flanges as well. I imagine you've thought this through already. I stay tuned to see what happens.

vivd lumens is what i run, it colour matches the blue back lighting. arb 12v twin is super reliable and they have the mount that fits in the engine bay. just dont put your locker buttons on the switch pro, ive heard of stories where things short and you dont want your lockers coming on randomly especially if your compressor isnt on. i have my compressor and the 2 lockers front and rear on my 3rd gen locked out with a relay that wont allow them to come on unless the pump is on. cheer bro, sick build!

Meso Customs makes a nice switch panel. I’m pretty sure they do custom panel layouts too. Rago fabrication has a great under hood mount for an ARB twin compressor. If you want the compressor in the cab Desert Does It makes an under the seat mount. Personally I like mine under the hood, it’s too loud in the cab.

Another great video in the can here.. I'm looking at a Detroit style locker for the front of my 98 4Runner. I think it will go well with the elocker I have in the rear. Biggest tire I'll be running is a 33". I converted my 4R to 4x4 and had to deal with the speedo issue too. I went with an electronic recalibration unit from Australia. Pretty easy to install and adjust using a GPS as a speedo to match it to. Just 4 leads to hook up, power and ground then you splice it in to the signal lead to your stock speedo in and out with the other 2 leads. There's two potentiometers in it you adjust to correct the stock speedo reading. Mine is a Digitech AA-0376. As I recall I got it for $50. There's another unit from New Zealand that looks just like mine and has the same part number from Jaycar. I got mine from an Ebay seller after I researched it. Works good for me..

I knew it called it last year on the Marlin Crawler RCLT. Can I get a prize lol. Tacoma's and the newer Toyota stuff is good. Love my done up 3rd gen runner. I am so glad I am getting another oldie (79-83) this one is a mint 82, and there are no plans to make it into a crawler, but if somebody hits me or dents it bad. The torch is comming out.
