Hi Tracy, Always a pleasure waking up to your videos of your beautiful garden on my weekend mornings! Such beautiful hydrangeas. I am a lover of container planting especially as I am running out of garden space. Would you be kind to share some tips on the type of pots you winterized your plants in. I too garden in a zone 5 here in Canada, however not having much luck with my current Hick yews in containers. Thanks for sharing. Happy gardening!

Hi Carlene, All the self-watering containers I got from Costco.ca. Some containers are also available at Lowes. You can check them out there. (These self watering containers are great for our Canadian winter. Hopefully, I can do a container video soon.) All the best.

Tracy, your flowerbeds are so beautiful! I live in Maryland, and I have 2 tiny tuff stuff hydrangeas that survived in pots, too. I put the biggest one in the ground, but the smaller one is still in a pot, but I'm thinking of replacing a Macrophylla that never bloomed for me with the smaller one. You have inspired my new love for hydrangea. I am so glad you're back!

Tracy, your gardens are gorgeous! I love all of your cross-pollinated columbines, especially the double purple with the white edges. I lost quite a few shrubs due to the arctic blast we had in February/March with temps in the -30 to -35°F. My area is considered to be in Zone 5a ...but the past few years have been challenging. I hope you and your family all had a nice weekend. ~Margie🤗💚💐🦋

Me too! Looks like I may see my Quick Fire blooms in another 1-2 weeks...my guess is mid-June. This is unusual for our zone 5. The earliest I have seen these in bloom is end of June. Our unusual summer-like sunny May is responsible. Happy gardening!

Unfortunately there is not much I can do other than to go out with soap water in early morning and evening to tap and drown them in the soap water. I tried to bag that you can buy at the garden nursery to attract them but it doesn’t seem to work due to the small size of my garden. 😳😳😳 The bag attracts them and trap them inside. This may work if you have a larger garden and you set the bag far away from your plants…this way the beetles will be attracted to the “bag” and avoid your plants. Hope you find a better solution for you garden soon.

Do you still have your blue jangles? Have you had it bloom on new wood? I didn't cover my blue jangles on time during the winter, so all my old wood buds died.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
I do have some blooms on old wood on my Jangles. We had a few ice storms during our winter that killed most of the blooms on old wood for me as well. In addition, we has some late frost that killed the rest. Again, I was so busy and forgot to check the weather in spring..so I didn't get to cover them. I hope we get some blooms on old wood as our growing season is often too short for them to bloom on new wood for us.

Hi Kathy, I get the seeds from my plants. Every year they give me new Columbine blooms...which is very exciting! If you plant two different varieties close by they will cross-breed and give you new colours and blooms. Happy gardening!

Hi Jenny, Last year it bloomed a few weeks after my LL…I think near the mid-end of August. I actually don’t like this. Our season is too short to enjoy them. People in the south should them as they have longer growing season to enjoy.

Hi Jill, Here is what I use: 1 tsp vinegar 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp dish detergent 1/4 tsp vegetable oil 2 L water This will get those aphids to avoid the foliage of the roses. All the best!

HI Tracy your garden is beautiful thank you for sharing. I have my first garden this year and planted tons of plants and noticed moths everywhere!! What do you do? I dont want to spray anything with chemical and i was thinking of using Bonide moth and insect killer ……what do u 🤔?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, I may a spray using: 1 tsp vinegar 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp dish detergent 1/4 tsp vegetable oil 2 L water I usually hand pick them off my plants and use the spray above on them. This usually works on most plants like roses and etc. If this spray doesn't work then you can consider other methods. All the best!

Hi Tracy , for those planters that have hydrangeas, do you move the planters into Garage in winter? I know those hydrangeas can survive in Zone 3 if you plant them in the ground, but I don’t know if they can survive in planters outdoor in winter.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
No, I keep them outside without winter protection. If you are in zone 3-4, I would move them up against the wall of the house and make sure the planters are at least 16-18" wide. Large soil reservoir will give them the most protection. All the best JZ!

Hi Lucy, As long as the roots are ok the stems will grow back. You should try the scratch test to see if the branch is dead or not. If the stems are dead, cut and remove up to the point you see some green. All the best Lucy!
