I invited my friend Alisa Childers on my channel to have a conversation about the book "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle. This is a very popular (and trendy) book that has enchanted millions of people. Published in 2020, it's a memoir of Glennon Doyle. One reviewer describes the book in this way: "This testament to female empowerment and self-love, with an endearing coming-out story at the center, will delight readers."
So yeeeaahhh... self-help. The scary patriarchy. Radical feminism. White supremacy. Oppressed by religion. Not to mention the Progressive/New Age spirituality scattered throughout the book. With a book so relevant and popular, not just culturally but spiritually, I just had to give my thoughts about it. There was no better person to do that with than Alisa Childers.
Hey... Doyle wants us to go untamed, so we decided to take her advice. We weren't tamed in our review. Roar.

My personal opinion about why Christians fall for this stuff is we don't know our Bibles. Especially with women's Bible studies, so much of it is more self help and fluffy. I think the motivation is good but it's not really equipping us for reality now.

So, using common sense are you. The devil doesn't like that. If people get know their Bible they will get to know God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They would know how to talk to God and not search and believe in every word a smart person says. They were would know the Bible and God or the Holy Spirit would talk to them.

My former roommate gave me this book to read. A week later she asked how I liked it because I had put it on her bed. She said, “wasn’t it amazing!?” I said, “I didn’t finish it.” She was so surprised I didn’t care for it. I told her I didn’t understand why people were glorifying a woman breaking up her family and deciding she was a lesbian. She tried to fight me on it and kept telling me to finish it. I was so disappointed because I think Doyle is a brilliant writer and story teller. My roommate wouldn’t let it go and then the BLM riots broke out outside our home in LA. She tried to force me to go walk. A week later I moved out. Thank you God for keeping me strong.

@@redpillfreedom6692 God does not hate gays, God does not hate prostitutes, .....God is love. If you love someone, you "hate", what is destroying them (short- or longterm). He designed humans completely good. They choose to put their trust in themselves, listening to the devil. Same old thing from the beginning. Should God have really said...? Oh no, that cannot be true. He just does not want you to be like him, discerning for yourselves (good and evil). In making themselves independent from God, trusting not his directions but "their own", which were not originally their own but they took them on board, the way they were designed was flawed, which from then has been handed down the generations. If you have children, you will know. From the beginning they often will not trust and therefor accept, what the loving parent will try to shield them from, not wanting them to get hurt or worse. No, they have to find out for themselves...., and in some cases get injured (hot stove and the like). Do not get me wrong. It is not a bad thing to be inquisitive and enjoying to explore. But within healthy boundaries, which in most cases the more wise and loving adult in a good family will set. God designed us, he knows about our fallen state, that we have ALL inherited and accordingly has set health boundaries. This is not only theory for me. I have experienced myself and witnessed very often how not trusting, that God set certain boundaries up and ignoring them, I and other got badly hurt. Blessings!

This is such an encouragement for me to read. As a high school teacher to 11th and 12th graders IN a Christian school, I get discouraged by the way my students think. Knowing that there are still biblically faithful students out there is a great encouragement!

@@tiffanydaniel8996 I blame the media. A lot of ungodly messages slip past all the theology and apologetics students learn, and it can take a while for it to click; what’s learned in school often gets separated from what’s learned outside the classroom. I say this as a former student who could get all A’s on a theology test but personally didn’t understand the gospel’s full implications in my day to day life until junior year of college. I’m just NOW understanding the importance of obeying God three years out of college. Still trying to figure out why there’s such a gap as I watch some of my Christian friends continue to act like unbelievers with Christian knowledge.

My mother decided to leave her husband and son and pursue the LGTBQ lifestyle. (I was out of the house by then, but was 8 months pregnant with my first child). I remember when we were arguing about it because I just couldn’t believe she was leaving her husband (who thought things were going well), my troubled teenage brother, and her soon-to-be-first-time-mom daughter behind for another woman. She simple told me, “I know God loves me and wants me to be happy” and “It’s my turn to be selfish.” Simple as that. In her mind, God totally approved of what she was doing. I couldn’t believe it. Unfortunately, she moved to the other side of the country and we don’t have a relationship anymore. And on top of that, her side of the family shunned ME for disapproving because I was supposed to love and support her as a Christian. 🙄 Then books like this come out from “Christian leaders” and just give them even more of an excuse to believe that what they’re doing is not only approved by God, but is essentially our highest calling for “true” fulfillment. Words cannot describe how much this upsets me to my core.

Then someone said to me, " You are not okay, and that's okay", & again I thought it was even more cool, until I realized that I am not okay, and that that's not okay, because Jesus Christ truly wants us to be more than just okay. This. Loving someone does not mean allowing them to go down a destructive path. Like a parent who tells their child not to jump off the roof because they're not a superhero. The child will get hurt. A parent would be completely irresponsible to let the child do whatever they want. This is why community is important. We're supposed to keep each other accountable. Love is hard at times. It can sometimes be standing firm for what's right and steering a brother or sister in that direction.

@@ProductiveChicken I was kinda thinking about stuff that the world considers wrongdoings versus the Bible's examples of sins. So for example, the world may not see anything wrong with revenge but the Bible says "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' says the Lord." (Romans 12:19). But for a less "serious" example, Paul talked about some "grey areas" (1 Corinthians 10:23-33) - things that one person may consider a sin (perhaps an example of this would be consuming alcohol), may not be a sin for the other person. So drinking alcohol is not technically a wrongdoing, BUT it could be a sin. I'm not the best a describing things but I hope that cleared up my comment just a little more. I wish that women who think destroying their families will teach their daughters empowerment and self worth would talk to some of us who have lived on the receiving end of that decision. My mom left my dad when my sister and I were both grown and out of the house. Her reasons were essentially the same as described here although she ran into the arms of another man rather than a woman. She would have said she wanted us to learn about pursuing happiness and self worth and all that. What we learned was that she was a liar who couldn’t be trusted. My sister struggled with her romantic relationship because she became convinced that all marriages were destined to fail. We learned that my mom truly didn’t believe any of the beliefs she raised us on. We learned that her love was conditional. We learned that peer pressure is still a danger in your fifties. We learned that she was selfish and weak instead of the strong woman we thought she was. We learned what it was like to have to separate holidays and vacations. We learned that it’s hard for the grandkids to see two sets of grandparents regularly, it’s impossible to do when there are three or four sets. We learned how to ignore her guilt trips and hurting her feelings when she doesn’t get holiday or vacation time. When you destroy your family for your own happiness you are teaching your kids a lot, just not what you think you are. This was devastating in our twenties, I cannot imagine how negatively changed we would have been had this occurred when we were children.

I would hope that these teachings (if one wants to call them that) don't make it across the pond, but I've seen a few signs over here in Germany that "progressive christianity" is starting to take root here too. Let's stay ahead of the curve and be prepared when we have to confront it.

There's plenty of useful stuff that one can use to understand the bible. I mean, sermons are there for the same reason, and it's not like there's a fundamental difference between spoken and written words. But the bible must always be the gold standart. As 1. Thessalonians 5,21 says: "but test everything; hold fast what is good." And even though that verse is specifically referring to prophecies, it just as much applies to any spiritual word and ministry.

“You don’t love me if you want to change me.” That’s them identifying with their individual desires and proclivities. The Christian is consistent: You are not merely a conglomeration of beliefs and desires. You are soul. That is who we are. And our desires can change. We’re not trying to change who you are, we’re trying to conform your desires to Christ. Don’t identify with your desires.

Hi ladies. This discussion moved me a lot. That shipwrecked spouse. I was that guy. Wife left 2015, cheated on me with the registrar from the Bible College she graduated from whilst we were going through counselling heading for reconciliation, or so I thought. It all turned out to be a mirage. Divorces me 2017, married 4months later to a woman. I lost almost all my friends & church family. The church ends up dying because Progressive Ideology crept in & destroyed the community in 2019. I then hear of those same people have relationship with my ex & her new partner, dinners, birthdays. Whilst excluding me from their lives. So trash 🥴 Hearing about this book being out there & the similar language used in it that I heard from my ex & people in my church towards the end before I chose to leave the community. It saddens me so much. I pray that the power of the Holy Spirit draws these people to repentance. I had to repent for my ignorance & being apart of a false Gospel that I’ve now spent the last 7yrs realigning. So finding content like this is fire 🔥

Glennon has been on my radar since her mommy-blogger days, even before I was a Christian. I was totally into all the mommy-blog stuff and couldn't get enough of all the pseudo-inspiration about motherhood they pumped out. But there was something different about Glennon. I always got the sense that she thought she was very important, and that people needed HER to be their guide. I'm sure other bloggers thought the same about themselves, but Glennon was more overt about it. I specifically remember a post (maybe on Instagram) of her at a conference and another attendee had her head in Glennon's lap. I don't remember the exact caption, but it was basically about how women could come to her for rest. Again, I was not a Christian at the time, but it still felt so weird and off. Like who does this lady think she is exactly? I could be wrong, but I think Glennon knows exactly what she's doing. I think she's actively working to disrupt lives in the name of freedom of the self. And I don't think she cares who gets hurt along the way, but to someone like her, that collateral damage is worth it to live your "truth."

I was in an atheist group and I can’t tell you how many people go to church, and even serve in the ministry that do not believe in God. They would come to this group and vent out their bitterness against God and the church. As true Christians we must be vigilant and learn God’s word. The scriptures are not to be changed or added to. The Bible even warns us to not give in to other books that will come out. The truth is: most people will not go to heaven and find life. The road is straight and narrow. I will pray for this author and those who believe the lies that we are to serve our self. God bless y’all!

See Richard Foster and the Quakers, see Dallas Willard, Ruth Haley Barton, John Ortberg etc. So I think that’s why Christian women are accepting this teaching - it’s already infiltrated.

Hi! Where can I find out about ‘the Knowing’? I am a Christian living my life according to the Bible, I have read and studied it seriously for many years. I have abhorred New Age “Christianity” and resisted its influences in my family. Yet I have enjoyed writings by Dallas Willard. I never made a connection between his writing and new age. Foster makes me uncomfortable, Ortberg I’ve recently heard of and am evaluating…my bottom line is that there is nowhere reliable outside scripture. But I’d appreciate your recommendations on this. Thanks. As Alisa said, “there’s so much…” to try to understand and discern. Edit: I’m writing this as I listen and would like also to comment that the common theme for disillusioned, deconstructing, and distorting Christians seems to be neglect of reading, pursuing, digging into scripture…either that or flat rejection of it.

For years I’ve said the same thing about no fault divorce. For 30 years now parents have been able to divorce and be applauded for being strong and brave, all while leaving hurt children and family members that are not given the ability to grieve and heal because it’s all supposed to be a “good” “freeing” thing! Our sin is so heartbreaking to God! It grieves Him and it leaves a wake of destruction in its path!

Keep inching along, the power of the Blood of Christ is powerful enough to break open the grave and open the gates of heaven AND open the chains of slavery to sin here and now. We can be transformed! Our heart which had become wicked, opposed to God, can be made new. The story is not over with the seal of eternity in heaven with our Maker, He gave us the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit with us here and now, that we will not be conformed to this world but be made new, starting with our mind. And we need to fill it with Scripture, God's direct revelation to us of the truth of who He is and who we are and what we are intended to be. That same Word gives us strength to become who He plans for us to be. Our amazing triune holy God is so good to us!

I wanted to work on our relationship through counsel but he refused and would say “I just want my life back.” He wanted to break up an almost 13 year marriage for selfish reasons not for any good reason at all. It was absolutely devastating to me. I know I’m better for not being with him but I will always have a scarred heart from that experience. I know at the end of his life he will be alone because he believes all he needs is himself. I have decided this year is the year I’m going to work on my relationship with God & healing so I can help other people as much as I possibly can in the next half of my life. Making a point to pray for these individuals is key to biblically loving them and for softness of heart. ❤️

When you said it is recommended by Oprah I knew immediately this would not be something that would appeal to me. She has been lost a long time.

Not when she recommended White Oleander, written by Janet Fitch. That book has inspired and continues to prod me to dedicate my purpose to teens in foster care. Everyone is hit and miss

You two ladies ROAR! As Some1Special said, if Oprah approves, RUN. That was some good preaching Miss Alisa. I really enjoy when the two of you get together. Thank you.
