Hi Dan, I can't believe this!!! My Grandfather owned this motel! It closed in the early 80's after he passed away. Our whole family used to make the trip down from Maryland. My Grandfather lived in the house on the property and as I recall it was pretty nice back then. The inside of the house makes me a little sad to see it that way. I remember running around outside the chasing salamanders when I was little, we had good times there. Thanks for posting this, kind of a bittersweet memory. The original owner was named Joseph Singer and his wife's name was Evelyn, I'm Joseph Singer III.

As the tornado sirens blared outside, the two men walked inside the abandoned motel as if nothing was happening. No fucks were given.

The storm and the sirens added so well to the atmosphere, for the first 2 minutes of this video I felt like I was in Silent Hill.

This is how all of man's creations will eventually end. The old is left to decay, the new is worshiped for a while then it too, is left forgotten, to decay, to be replaced by the newest style, the newest trend, etc. I applaud explorers and documentary makers like Dan who help keep the past alive, because knowing where we came from will better help us understand where we are going...My deepest respect for Dan, Will, and all of the other urban explorers out there who risk their lives so that we may never forget...

I find it humorous that during a tornado warning you head into a rickety abandoned building :)

Dan, its sad to be old, sick and alone. The vibe I got was that. One goes and the other is alone and it just falls apart around them. Leaking roof, cold, no business, and they fade away. The day comes they have to walk away or they die there. When I was ill my beautiful home became a palace of memories and forgotten dreams. Someone did not see the decay or the overgrown landscape. The mind can play cruel tricks or can also be a kind blanket to cover a bleak reality. When I look back at my old beautiful place I once lived. I was appalled on how much I let it go. I could not maintain nor had the physical strength to do it. I sat and lived in a in between place while it fell down around me. Because it was all I had. MY memories. Today I am alive and kicking! Still, I can not begin to grasp how I lived in such poor conditions. AN old man and his dogs. Just saying. I like that you are reverent of these places. Because, for some, they are still there. Walk gingerly and respectfully my friend.

Such a shame to see places like these go to ruin. Whether it's a mall, hotel/motel or even a home.

Come along as I explore the long-forgotten Edgehill Motel on Route 301 in Virginia. As we go through, a story begins to unfold in the objects we see. As a storm rages outside, our minds wander. What happened here? What happened to the owners? For a place without an address, we may never know.

The atmosphere of this whole video really got to me but your words at the end couldn't describe that feeling any better. "While exploring these long forgotten places, one cannot put aside the feeling of dread and despair, when looking at whats been left behind, by the people who once lived there."

Wow, this IS sad. The home got me. I just dont understand how things of such personal nature, food, bathroom things, clothes, etc are just abandoned like that. Surely someone must have died and the family just left it all. Wow. You captured it all exquisitely Dan. Thank you.

While going on these vicarious excursions, I cannot help but be overwhelmed by the sense of insanity in what has happened to all of these abandoned properties. One sees furnishings that were often beautiful in their heyday, but are now ruined and nauseating, covered with mold, filth, water rot, and other deteriorative substances. Cans of once-good food were permitted to decay and leak; walls and ceilings have crumbled and caved in. Why, when the places were first vacated, didn't someone sell off the assets within the building, as well as the building itself? Outstanding debts could have been paid, and those non-consumable items could still be in use today. I fear that our society - like the abandoned motels and homes, and the dead malls - will also decay and crumble - thanks to our bizarre propensity for obliviousness to our obligations, and our wasting of resources in what has become a throw-away culture. Thank you, Dan Bell, for training a spotlight on what may become (if we're not more careful) the "decline and fall of the American 'empire'..."

I am impressed, that you keep on filming under these circumstances. Great video as always. But take care out there. You don't mess with mother Nature.

Loved this one! For anyone worried about the storm: These warnings happen all the time where I live over here in tornado valley, and a lot of the time tornados never even end up touching the ground. The building looks protective enough, and what are the chances of the motel being directly in the storm's path? Unless it was a big one, there's no need to worry. Even so, don't take warnings lightly! If you see a tornado that's touched, get to a basement or cellar asap!

Nothing like a tornado warning to start off your exploration. I would be nervous being in a situation like that. I wouldn't know if the building would hold up if a tornado were to drop right then. I love your videos. I am always fascinated with old buildings. The older the better. Keep up the videos.

It brings tears to my eyes not knowing the what happen to these people. How desperate they must of been ( for what ever reason) to leave everything they own behind and just go like that. I do hope all those who have done this are happy and healthy and starting a new life else where. xx

it looks to me as an elderly couple lived in that house the crutches and the seat in the bathroom show to me at least one of them was sick or disabled maybe they once owned the motel aswell and when they both died there was not one left to pick up the pieces so it was just all left there

Great video, the Motel, the Storm, and the hauntingly solemn synth music really fits considering this place closed in the early 80s when that warm FM synth sound first came into existence.

Nice use of the lost highway soundtrack, I love that movie. I've passed by that place a bunch of times and have always meant to stop in but I've been on my way somewhere else and didn't have the time. I love all the late 40s early 50s architecture and designs, it was a time when everything was made to look like a piece of art.

The video gave me feelings of sadness and a bit alone and yet I pictured the hotel in the condition it was in back in its hay day and ya nice video by the way!!

Some people say that a house or building is just a thing, but I've always heard different things said and seen some interesting things happen to houses and other places when people leave. One thing I have noticed is that places like homes seem to have a kind of life. When people leave a place, even a place they did little to take care of, the place will hold together until they vacate. Almost immediately after they leave, the house begins to crumble. I've also noticed a feeling in a home that people live in that is very much gone when they leave it. There is a kind of 'thrum' in the heart of the place that just vanishes when it's days are nearly over. I don't want to get weird here, but you do sense something there. My wife's grandparents had a nice little house, it always felt welcome and inviting to be there, but then when her grandfather passed away, it was as if the spirit of the place dissolved into the vapor. There was a place in the living room and kitchen that you could feel that 'thrum' in, like a tuning fork or a heartbeat. When he passed, the place no longer had that feel after a month or more. It grew cold and lifeless, a skeleton. Her grandmother said that she couldn't stand staying there after that, and not long after, she left. It was an odd feeling when we visited. The life and energy was gone from every timber and facet. Until going through that, I would've said that a house is nothing but wood and nails, but... I can tell you that I literally felt the home-place die. Logically it shouldn't have been that way, but no, I definitely believe that a house has a kind of life in it. Others in her family as well as she, said they felt it too. Too weird... Seeing this video, I can tell you that whoever lived there was elderly and was taking a fair amount of medicines. There was a sad feeling that exuded from every crack, looking at the last known pieces of this person or persons' lives. I think you may be right. This person may have passed away or become too sick to stay in their home. It would be interesting to find out if some of that untouched stuff, like the air conditioner in that hotel room, were still there. It's good that no one seems to know of the place or that there is no address on record. It's hard to find time-capsules like that nowadays.

I wonder if the ballerina picture on the bed is a portrait of a woman who lived in the house, something from her earlier years in show business. I'm puzzled by the room with Princess Diana magazines; I also wonder if there had been a squatter there looking at already old magazines and/or if the place had just been closed up for a long time and the door recently left open. If the door was open for a long time the paper would surely have deteriorated and there would have been more decay. I saw evidence of someone going through the house (open desk drawers, jewelry box on the floor) but little sign of vandalism if any. Maybe the motel and house are in such a conspicuous place with people only passing by that the location has served to keep this location from being disturbed very much. As always I get exasperated by people leaving things behind and by the waste but I have to admit it makes videos more interesting. Not only am I fascinated by these videos but I'm almost obsessed with not letting my own belongings go to waste. I'm downsizing and organizing, putting names on files and post-it notes on boxes so the contents will go to the right places. I even told the person who is now my estate representative that apart from a few specific donations to just help himself to things or pass them on to anyone he thinks would like them, otherwise items go to the Salvation Army or a fundraising book sale for the area food bank. I don't want my things, though there's little of value, to be tossed into the dumpster for the apartment complex where I live and I've seen plenty of other people's belongings end up there. I believe it's a matter of responsibility to make such arrangements when it possible to do so.

First off I'd like to say I'm happy I was able to finally view this video. Crazy to see how much stuff is still left in many of those rooms you went through and how there is very minimal fandalism meaning copper. That Workshop/Utility room was very creepy it looks like the scene of a horror movie. I would have to go on the assumption that one or both of the owners passed away and the place was just left, it's unfortunate when you think about how such a beautiful property was left to rot but I know from past experiences most times there's in fighting with in the family and instead of making a compromise the family properties are just left to rot.

That is why I am so glad to live in Oregon, one tornado in like 30 years. Your turning me into a fan Dan Bell

This is one of my favourite urban exploration videos. I like the real sound of thunder and rain (because you were filming in a storm). I like the smattering of commentaries you made about the possible people who have lived there and the overall feeling of the place. (I don't like an urban explorer who had a running commentary throughout his/her videos). Your accompanying music is soft and non-intrusive. Your voice has a soothing quality; easy to listen to. I am glad I found your channel and I've subscribed. I look forward to more videos. One last thing, you don't wear long pants??? Aren't you afraid of things that might bite you?

Great vid, Dan. When I watch these, I think about the people that lived there...and ran the business. With our insular lifestyles, I think that we tend to completely ignore our fellow people and have zero interest...and relatively little compassion for each other. We don't realize that they are just like us....with hopes and dreams, joys and struggles, happiness and sadness. So much of what we experience leaves us contending with emotions that reside inside a location so difficult for anyone to ever see; within ourselves. I always hope that people have many more good experiences than bad...as life is such a challenge for all.

That was a very cool find, and not as creepy as I thought it would be. It is sad to see a once beautiful place go to waste like that. I would love to go exploring some day. I did a lot of it when I was younger, but my old broken ass won't be doing much more of it anymore forever. So that brings us to you. I have to wonder why the pear cans are significantly more corroded than everything else. 6:56 This music is oddly soothing & somber at the same time. How does one bathe in such a tiny tub?

Funny you used a cut from the Lost Highway soundtrack. I was thinking earlier that your videos remind me of a David Lynch movie; strange, haunting, and sometimes bittersweet. If you ever get down to Louisiana, check out the abandoned Jazzland amusement park outside New Orleans. It's eerie!

I lived in a motel like this not too long ago run by an older couple. Still doing fairly well, thanks to being near the only "main drag" running through town. They own that one and another, similar place out in Tulia, TX. Watching this, I can't help but think this could've been a similar circumstance where it could've very easily been the same, old couple running the joint. But ultimately failing and fading thanks to no longer being near a constant stream of a revenue and interest generator.

One of my favorites of your Dead Motel Series.... LOVE the old neon signs! My favorite part was when you were in the kitchen...I really liked that orange counter top! Those groceries in the cabinet are neat... my mom used to make me Woody's (sweet and sour BBQ) chicken when I was little - they still make it, it's really good. Those Kraft BBQ bottles were cool... they haven't made that style of bottle in a LONG time. They look a bit newer than the ones when I was a kid, the bottoms used to have a brick or basketweave type pattern impressed in the glass... these don't seem to, maybe right after that style but before they just went to regular old nondescript bottles, Wow, never thought I'd talk so much about BBQ / BBQ bottles! :) A shame such a lovely place just ruined!

Just think that this is sort of what some families walk into after their homes have been destroyed by tornadoes or fires. Obviously not the decay from age but just all their stuff destroyed. If you think this is sad, imagine walking into your own home and seeing all your belongings destroyed. :(

Another very enthralling video Dan. You seem to just get it spot on with the music, sounds and the way you linger on certain shots and aspects of these places. You don't over narrate either, but give enough for us to know what and where we are, but without too much clutter of voice. Is it just me or did anyone else get the feeling that the picture of the dancing lady may of been the past resident there? Thanks again for sharing another great video.

I wish this was longer than 11 minutes, but this is probably one of your best videos. I live for that ‘right before a storm’ kind of weather or just dark cloudy weather in general and this was awesome to see. It adds to the very eerie feeling of this forgotten place.

Those emergency alerts are bizzarre, here in aus we dont have anything like it, i only found out when a yank visiting here showed me and explained it. Good idea.

dan i remember alot of the hotels you go to on 301 virginia and rt 5 thru maryland,my grandparents every weekend would take off and stay at these places my aunt and i would tag along because it meant a new adventure and my grandmother loved to shop..you have brought back so many wonderful memories of a time in my life that made me who i am today, thank you for this
