What a great video. I was just searching for reviews of the Barista pro and found this one. Usually i skip parts of most videos, but in this case i watched it from beginning to end. Deep knowledge plus innate pedagogical skills are rare to find. This video will definitely and finally kick off my long overdue home barista path and will resort to it often. Thank you so much!

This is a very nice and friendly video, but although I am not a pro, I would like to make some additions. What I have learned so far is, that right after you've altered the grind size you have to grind some seconds and then dismiss the coffe. That ensures, that you have grinded the coffe with the new size. In my experience, the adjustment for the temperature is too hot for an espresso on this machine. Two points over minimum reproduces the right temperature for me, which is about 92°C. An extraktion time of 21 secs and an amount of 48g of coffee seems to be much too fast. BUT as you said: the taste is the most important thing. Last but not least @Will Stones: this does not matter. Determinant is the weight.

Hi Judge, we don't go too much into the deeper detail as these are the entry level machines and simple demos on how they work. But I agree with everything you say about adjusting the grind. For clarification we usually recommend, 1:1.5:2 for a brew ration but again i think this detail is too complex for a simple overview video of the machine Thanks for the input

Such an excellent video. Thank you so much. You are a great presenter and teacher. I almost bought the Bambino pro but luckily our local Best Buy had these machines on display and I didn't much like the feel of it. It just did not feel sturdy enough. It does have automatic steam and frothing which did appeal to me. But then the Pro was on my list too. I saw it there too in person and played around with it a bit and I really think it is way more sturdier. So will get that soon. I do have one suggestion. Could you please record your videos in landscape mode, as in make the phone Horizontal while recording it. Thanks again for a great video.

I thought that rasor thing was silly at first too but it's good for cleaning the sides after tamping considering the tamper is ever so. slighly too thin. I use it and it seems to help a bit.

love the video and tutorial of the Barista Pro, really helpful. But i noticed your using the single wall double shot basket on a single grind option! The Pro has a double shot grind function, i take it theres no difference in what your doing here for either single or double basket, any thoughts?

The razor tool is only to tell if you’re using too much or too little espresso. Once it’s tamped, you insert it and if it touches the espresso, you’re using too much, if there’s a big gap, using too little. It’s not for grooming.

Really good video and helped a lot. Thanks. I have one question. I have learned the machine is a volumetric machine, however the waterflow once, i have the portafilter with coffee in the machine, doesn't stop automatically and i have manually stop the machine by pushing the 2 cup button after 40-50 seconds. What i see in the video hat the machine does stop automatically after 20-30 seconds. Any idea how i get to the automatic stop or to what the automatic stop is connected ?

you can have manual or programmed.. if you have programmed you hold the button longer to start the program or short press to start manual and short press to stop.

Thanks for the nice review. to play with volume, you need to adjust the grinder /timer ? Sorry just bought mine and I am a starter....
@MrJudgeSauter1
@MrJudgeSauter1 3 жыл бұрын
Adjusting the grinder does have an effect on the "volume" which I think you mean is the amount of coffee in your filter basket. But that isn't the right way to adjust it. The grinding size does have mostly an effect on the extraction time. If you simply wnat more coffe in your filter basket, use the timer. Tipp: it is better to grind e.g. 3x5 secs as 15 secs, avoidng the filter basket to overfill.
@TheOldBarracksCoffeeRoastery
@TheOldBarracksCoffeeRoastery 3 жыл бұрын
seems to me Sergio that you can adjust the volume of water - you could manually start and stop the flow. The speed of the flow is determined by the size of the grind, and how much coffee is in the basket.

Just curious about the different baskets. I do understand that two are for one shot and two for two shots. However, there is a difference in the number of holes in the two set of baskets. Any suggestions as to which one to use for someone new to expresso brewing?
@lucianpopovici9742
@lucianpopovici9742 3 жыл бұрын
Use only the the standard baskets (with many holes on both sides) in combination with freshly ground coffee. The blind baskets (with only one hole on the backside) are for pre-ground coffee, but you won't be using that since the machine has a built in grinder. Using the double basket produces better espresso with more depth then the single basket, but you would also have to drink 2 espresso or a double espresso.

This is a very helpful video, thanks very much. Just had a question about the pro's steam wand. I noticed mine has 4 holes, and when pointed 180 degrees to the tray, steam emits from all 4 holes. But when I tilt the wand in any direction, steam only comes from the bottom 2 holes. I ensured that the holes were not plugged. Is this normal or is my machine not putting out enough pressure (ie, is my machine defective)? Thanks very much.

When you empty the portafiller is it kinda dry or wet? mine is always wet.
@MrJudgeSauter1
@MrJudgeSauter1 3 жыл бұрын
If your "puck" is wet, the coffe was underextracted, which means, that either your grind size is too corase or you tampered not stron enough or the amount of coffee in your filter basket is just too low.

Judge Sauter, thank you so much. You are right, I didn't have enough coffee in the port filler and it wasn't ground down enough.. I talked to Breville and they helped me. I now have it set 7 for the grind and 15.5 for the amount.. It's working great and I love it..

Why does mine always have a pre-infuse? I'm not getting any crema in my shots. Can you adjust the time it takes to pulling the shots?
@MrJudgeSauter1
@MrJudgeSauter1 3 жыл бұрын
First: crema looks nice but isn't really a quality mark. Also crema has much bitterness in it. This is why you always have to stir it, before drinking. Having no crema at all can have various causes. Mostly the grind size and the freshness of the coffee. Also a dirty machine or components can cause this. To adjust the amount oif water given to your espresso, read the manual. But I don't suggest to do it. It is all about timing. Example for a double shot: 17g coffee, pressing the cup-knoob, timer starts, after 8-10 seconds the espresso comes out and finishes in about 25-30 seconds. The amount of espresso you get should be 42-43g (g not ml!!!), which is a ratio of 1:2,5. Depending on the grind size and also on how much you tampered, the time and also the amount of espresso varies. If you grind finer, it takes more time, if you grind more coarse, the less time it will take.
