I'm really terrible at accepting compliments and deeply appreciate how you described Freeman's accepting compliments as "making it about them." I'd love to know more.

I agree with some of the points in this video, but not with all of them. Sometimes some attributes make us like someone or a celebrity, in this case, because we already like them. Like when Morgan Freeman fell asleep. Because already people like him, so his falling asleep made him more likeable, whereas if someone we don't like or, worse, dislike falls asleep, that doesn't make us like him/her. For instance, if my boss doesn't like me and I fall asleep in a meeting, he wouldn't start to like me. I would most probably receive an earful instead.

Definitely agreed. Not every attribute is suitable for every character. Pretending to be someone else will seem fake eventually. It is more important to get the idea and see if it works for yourself and not try too hard.

This whole series is soooooo very interesting, love it! I just ordered both your books, hope they arrive soon :) Thx for all this info! Also I have a question, how can we be smooth and silly and playful without attracting people that seem to wanna test how much we can stand? Because for example I cannot ignore the fact that Morgan Freeman is male, older, respected, very well known so I don't think anyone is really going to try to test his patience or playfulness, but how can non superstar extroverted or ambivalent joyful people be playful without attracting envious or toxic people that seem to wanna test how "real" or how resilient our joy is?

Thanks Vanessa. Great content! I have an existencial doubt. Some great speakers shared a tip about having your audience engaged and entertained. And also they commented that if you want a 80% of your audience attention you have to deliver 120% (I know, it is impossible to deliver more than 100%). Having this in mind you can´t having pauses or thinking time because you will lose your audience attention and sound boring. So, when we talk about the vocal power, and likability (what includes some pauses and some sort of relaxed moments), it is not a way to loose your audience? I mean, if we were a superstars like Morgan, Denzel or Vanessa Van Edwards, perhaps we can afford that luxury. But what happens with all other mere mortals?
@MoneyGist
@MoneyGist 2 жыл бұрын
Actually pauses are an excellent way to draw and hold your audience's attention. Thin about it, what happens when you're passively listening to someone (possibly on a KZfaq video) and they suddenly stop talking? You pay attention. It's better to speak more slowly (and say less) than to try to rush in a lot. Rushed speech makes you sound excited... which is good if you're truly confident but if you're not, it only makes you sound nervous. Better to slow your speech, pause, and maintain eye contact with a smile.

I love the yawn tip!!! I am an anxious person and I can hear it in my voice. I'd love some exercises to help prepare for anxious events. How can I prep my voice for a talk, when inside I'm shaking?! I use a lot of mindfulness, but I've never heard the yawn tip... are there more such tips on how to sound calm, when not?

One of the most significant 'cues' that was missed are the cues that signify age. Morgan Freeman is likeable to men because he is not sexual competition and likeable to women because he will not be a nuisance 'ineligible bachelor'.

This type of content feels like it is fishing for views. With over 300 videos and articles on these topics, two books (and more coming), I have to stop and evaluate what I'm really getting. Would it pass the 80/20 principle? Within your brand is science-backed research, are these really the most important strategies I should focus on? I don't think I'm in for another 100 videos that follow a similar template using celebrities as viewer magnets.

"Likeability" is a Liability. On the news the person who is the great guy or woman or neighbor is the one who get killed. I'm the most hated, live forever for being so. Sir Lucifer The Great enjoys the hate. Friendship is overrated. You only need one friend, God. Try it, it might work for you too.
