My top shots in slow motion. Plenty of action of NZ long range hunting, epic vapour trails and bullet trace. See the impact as we take out some feral species in New Zealand.

She's long walks here that's for sure.. all of the Tahr were recovered. Less of the goats as that is very cliff riddled country and most of the shooting there is for population control

Depending on the area but hawks (again not native) feral pigs are an issue on this property too and they eat carcasses once they get smelly..

Do you take care of the meat or is it left on the ground?
@ChasetheWildNZ
@ChasetheWildNZ Жыл бұрын
Most of the meat is used, however the amount of animals needing to be culled to control the feral goats here means not 100% is taken for meat. There are no natural predators and they breed so fast. Around 1000 a year we take off to keep pace with numbers

Amazing shots! What scope did you use, and what was the zoom? I have never taken a shot over 250 yards, so these long distance shots would be totally new to me. It sure looks fun!

I use an element optics either s 5-25 or 4-20. Certainly possible with much lower but I wouldn't go below 16 really. If you use s decent soft bullet like an eldx or ELDm etc then long shots can be very ethical with lots of practice on steel before engaging animals. Check out my vid shot placement to help get you started

@@ChasetheWildNZ Do you have a recommendation video or resource for learning long range shooting, like MOA, etc. I used Google Earth a few minutes ago to look at our farm and have several long range shooting options from our tallest hill for: a 300-500 yards (to a cultivated field), another option for 200-800 yards (but will need to clear out mesquite trees for where I place the steel), and then all the way from the hill to my deer feeder giving me 1,000 - 1,200 yards. My rifle is a Mauser chambered with .270 Win. But my daughter just got a 6.5 Creedmore that I am looking forward to shooting.

@@alanbutler7712 yes for sure.. I follow and shoot like Nathan foster here in NZ. He has a small shooting education and accurising business here and is involved with some big players in th US and Europe. His books are second to none and his knowledge of terminal ballistics is world class. His website is www.ballisticsstudies.co.nz I think. Read some of his book extracts and the cartridge info and see what you think

Try yards, show the near misses and wounded animals
@ChasetheWildNZ
@ChasetheWildNZ Жыл бұрын
I do use yards and thankfully there are very few wounded animals. We take around 1000 animals a year off a few properties, mostly at ranges over 400y due to the steep country. If your up close you can't get more than a few shots away calmly before they panic and run every where. Every mammal here is introduced with no predators so they need decent control. The government spends millions poisoning and culling

Shooting that far is unethical period! You have no clue of the atmospheric conditions way out there. It’s not like you have the flags positioned out to 1km. Really only interested in showing off, not concerned for the game species. I’ve been hunting 40 years, big game, driven game, small game and varmints, as well as bird shooting. I know my limits and they are probably less than yours. But you are just tossing a coin at 6-700m.
@ChasetheWildNZ
@ChasetheWildNZ Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a tough one. I totally understand your opinion here and I took years to actually put any footage up as I didn't want to encourage these longer shots from in-experienced hunters. A few things have lead me and many others in NZ to use these kind of ranges for ethical kills and indeed culling. Here in NZ every game animal and mammal is introduced and there are no predators, this means numbers go crazy and eco systems and the our native plants suffer hugely. Our government culls and poisons 100s of thousands of animals each year. Even using. Helicopter shooting teams etc etc. I have seen countless animals injured or lost at close range due to pressure and lack of a decent rest etc. We have found that due to the huge country and the steep faces you often have to get very close to be able to see the animal and once the first round has gone everything runs and only one animal is taken calmly. If you sit up on a high point at 400-600m you can have a perfect rest and the animals are calm and still allowing a good ethical kill. I use soft bullets that cause huge wounding at slower impact speeds and will wait until animal is facing into the wind so if you need to hold off its towards the head neck instead of the gut area. If you look through my many vids you will hopefully see it's value here in NZ. Thanks for your comment though as it is a valid point

@gerrymccarthy9568 I think this channel’s response has been very kind to you. Personally I think your comment is ridiculous for this reason: you shoot birds on the wing and driven game. Are you for real? Your targets are moving - fast - for chrissakes what part of that is better than what we do here? I grew up in Scotland & England and lived in Europe and the States for years and watched guys just like you wound more pigs and birds than soft Joe and just shrug their shoulders and get ready for the next one. As a kid in the Borders I chased down hundreds - no thousands - of grounded, wounded game birds with my Staffys, poorly shot by posh “guns” with their fancy Purdeys and wotnot. The job of the estate kids was to go clean up after the adults after they have had their fun (pretty much always after half a bottle of brandy with their posh brunch). Do not - ever - try and convince me that shooting running or flying game is any more “ethical” than what you have witnessed in this video. These guys are excellent shooters and they’ve more than earned their right to post their necessary activities. Yours is a stupid position to take and one that is extremely ignorant of the effort, experience and expertise involved in the kind of shooting us “long rangers” routinely do here in NZ to try and manage our natural environment. Over many years (also over 40 of field experience) I’ve come to loath the sanctimonious attitudes of some shooters towards others as soon as range increases beyond that which they can understand. The self-righteousness is pitiful. Think of what I’ve said next time you swing your shotgun onto the rear end of a 50km/h bird why don’t you.

The only ones that may not get recovered here are the feral goats. Purely due to how many we have to cull to keep pace with their breeding. Everything is an Introduced pest here and no predators so numbers go crazy
