Good video. Try be a bit restrained in that block it can be a nice spot but after this years roar it was smashed. Hope it wasnt your big piles of shit and toilet paper just over the edge from your camp half way up the ridge. Its a lot of locals spot be nice if it didnt get broadcasted too much as it was a mess come May.

@camstocky2019 definitely wasn't us with the toilet paper etc! I bury deep and those other lads have been hunting for 20+ years. It's a very nice area. I hope I've kept it from being recognized, found 2 stags without heads and an old merino without head too. Looked like it already had a bit of attention by time we got there. Doesn't help with the R22 scouting around in the avos!

@camstocky2019 yes I think the sweet spot is using it on the end of an already very good sound suppressor (most ones that are 6" forward) if you add one to the shorter ones you can get a little bit of a ringing in the ears which isn't ideal!!!

Although I have been shooting a long time (mainly shotguns), 22Lrs I've used a lot, but only went centrefire about four years ago and loving it. I joined the NZDA about the same time and get onto a few club shoots but too many young guns go and get to the best spots first. I've shot red spikers, half a dozen fallow (but one good buck with a patched round ball rifle). I have been dropping hints in the club to get me out onto a good Tahr and / or chamois, but no one has picked on my hints lol. While I am 70 and fitter than most my age, it's getting harder to get into the hills. It was part of the reason I moved from muzzle loading rifles to mt .243!

Long shots on deer size I like the 105 VLD from Berger and anything under 300 yards I use 95 partitions and zero complaints. Even tried the 80 tSX and ttsx both do quite well. With proper shot placement it’s as deadly as any rifle within its limits personally of mine is 400yards

It appears you are using many different shooting techniques and holds in this video. Is your point of impact the same as your baseline zero from bipod/bags or do you further compensate for how the shooting technique will effect your shot? My main struggle is i have got a good zero with a specific technique but if i am unable to get that technique exactly replicated in the hills due to terrain it will cause issues with the shot. Best accuracy has been obtained over pack with double sling wrap and hand over scope. But in the hills sometimes you cant get non trigger elbow on the ground and the method falls apart.
@ChasetheWildNZ
@ChasetheWildNZ 2 ай бұрын
This is a great point, a lot of people try to do the cross arm technique and get straight behind rifle in the mountains and it doesn't go well for them. I always have one hand over the scope when using bipod. And I get off to one side with a knee up to let myself breathe and able to adjust to the terrain. Off the pack is great as it's always the same shooting platform but it does need practice to setup quickly. Definitely practice controlling the gun well. Steep uphill shots when using cross arm cause high jumps which you see in the slow motion shots on red stag hunters club etc. Check out Nathan fosters guides to holding the foreend at www.ballisticstudies.com

Hey mate what bipod model and length have you found to be best for NZ mountain hunting? If hiking and but needing precision on varying mountain terrain what is your number one pick? I'm shooting a 7mm rem mag in otago. Cheers
@ChasetheWildNZ
@ChasetheWildNZ 2 ай бұрын
Hey man. My pick are the tier One tactical bipod from stagersports. Or a genuine Harris. Both are around 9-13" adjustable. You need the length. The tier1 is wider and more stable and slightly lighter

@@ChasetheWildNZ how do you find the javelin bipod?
@ChasetheWildNZ

@callumdunn6070 I'd steer clear of the super light weight stuff. They lack stability for consistent performance. Also the quick release spigot has a lot of slack in it. A quick release pic rail work well
