The way they killed Shaak Ti in the movie was complete bullshit.

If Zannah had been a Jedi, she would had been more powerful. The thing of being a sith, is that you entirely rely on the dark side to overpower opponents. The dark side is what makes the sith what they are. So in order to use the dark side properly, you need a style that allows you to use that dark side effectively. Djem so and Juyo were the best styles for a sith in terms of mental state, they pushed the wilder to unleash powerful negative emotions, Djem so was about brute strength, overpowering and destroying, Juyo was about being chaotic, overpowering and destroying. Both styles made the sith even more powerful, since the sith were capable of using their psychotic emotions to better use their lightsaber. Even tough we have examples of other styles like Dooku being one of the deadliest duelists of his time, as a sith and using Makashi, or as we see here, Zannah being a master of soresu. Soresu is not a sith style, it is a completely Jedi style. Using soresu, as vaapad, is about not only swinging your lightsaber, but acquiring a state of mind. In order to properly use Soresu, the wilder must be calmed, relaxed, must be the "eye of the storm", with no desire of killing or harming, but of defending yourself and the opponent ( this is why it has no offense). A jedi was far more effective than a sith with Soresu, since the light side of the force is stronger in the jedi if the jedi is extremely calmed, serene, passive, etc. We can clearly see this when Obi Wan faced Grievous, since the light side requires a pure heart and a serene mind, the stronger this two are in a Jedi, the stronger would be the force with the jedi, and even more if your lightsaber style requires such qualities in you. Using Soresu like never before, and ( as a result of the style allowing Obi Wan to be extremely calmed and serene) the force was capable of taking control of Kenobi and fight for him, he ended up withstanding 17 hits per second from an android using 4 lightsabers at the same time!! Never before we saw a Jedi using Soresu in it's purest form. Darth Zannah was a sith, she needed negative and powerful emotions to aid her in battle, this made her Soresu effective, but not as effective as Obi Wan's, she relied purely on her physical skills, while a Jedi constantly used the force to aid him while using Soresu. If Darth Zannah had been a Jedi, she would and been unstoppable, especially since she used a double blade lighsaber, making her defensive capabilities even higher than that of a wilder of a single blade lightsaber.

Buying time is all Zannah needed really. I think the major fault is that we have no source material on Zannah as a sith lord so we don't know what combative abilities she full developed.

The frustrating thing about Zannah is that if she had come to her full power twenty years earlier, she probably would have won the whole war for Lord Kaan. She's perfectly optimized to be that Oppo Rancisis-style combatant who sits just beyond the line of fire, and wreaks absolute havoc on the enemy. Give her the opportunity to do that, and she will dominate--it doesn't matter if Yoda, Satele Shan and Luke freaking Skywalker are leading the other side. If she breaks out her dark side tendrils or her other great powers, they are utterly impotent. But she's also the type of person who would learn Soresu to its highest functional degree, because she needs to SURVIVE when she gets caught up with what should be a brief confrontation before her allies can rescue her. The issue is, when Bane saw her power level, stature and inclinations, that was the best archetype for her--of the ones he knew. At that point, he really only understood the brands of Sith that work on the battlefield, NOT the Rule of Two types his line would create, so he fashioned Zannah after that archetype. Zannah IS Tier 1, but all of the situations she's optimized for put her away from the actual battle, and her entire combative skill set operated on the idea that if she could hold out, allies could get to her and put her back behind friendly lines soon enough. However, Bane neglected to realize this, and so when there simply are no allies for Zannah to rely upon, SHE is the one who is impotent.

It's interesting that HOW the warrior fights matters just as much as what they bring to the fight. An analogy I think of is the Greek Hoplite vs. the Roman Legions. The Greeks were using the same tactics and equipment as Alexander the great, but the Romans' use of the manipular formation allowed them greater flexibility on the battlefield, while the Greeks resorted to the one-trick pony of the Phalanx. The Romans conquered the Greeks. In this case, Shaak Ti is the Romans and Zannah is the Greeks.

I might be a little late to the fight but I have to say this was very well researched I think. Reading over some of the comments below I agree with Jensaarai that the sith sorcery is the wild card and given with what I have read in the rule of two books I agree with the outcome. But they do kind of end right there and I know I have not been able to find more that goes deeper into what happens after her fight with Bane. It is possible that she reenforced some of her weaknesses that were shown from the fight to better prepare herself for her apprentice, or she could have stayed stagnate, who can really say. This is of course unless there is more information out there that I am unaware of in which case please share.

Now, that is a balanced pair. An extremely powerful Jedi Master from one Era paired up with a Medium-Masterful Jedi Master from the other Era.

Yay! It's nice to have someone be in agreement with me. I'm sure I'm bound to be arguing with others though.

i will say now that i love the versus series, it gives good information on characters and gives a good idea of there capabilities to ppl like myself who have been able to read or get there hands on the material to research or read these things for themselves. now lets get to a serious point that i think has been woefully missed. i mentioned on Jensaari's description of Soresu video why an offensive stance would be in a defensive style, Soresu does not lack attacking techniques, it just does not place emphesis on them, secondly Zannah's shorten blades in CQB would take away a lot of the longer blades offensive capabilities in such close quarters. Lastly, we're talking about light sabers, a weapon that can cut thru a reinforced bulkhead like a hot knife thru butter, a human/humanoid limb is not gonna pose any resistance to its cutting power, infact Jensaari has said in a lot of his video's that red synthetic crystals increase cutting power, a duelist wouldnt need power behind an attack to cut somone in half, now take into account the way Zannah users her saber staff, by constantly spinning it, to a duelest on the defence, Zannah is putting out A LOT of potential attacks even when she is being defensive. in short, power only comes into play in over powering a persons defence, not in landing a killing blow, i can't help but feel that these things are severely misrepresented in the source material and will go on the record as saying this is not the fault of the ppl making these videos but the writers of the source material. Ok so with my little rant over............ keep up the good work guys!!!

I have watched several of these videos and am impressed by the work and creative ingenuity that is put into them. So much time and resources expended in the background of fantasy characters. Very entertaining but still just a fantasy, When I found my life unlivable I found that reality is based on a loving creator who allows His evil adversary to challenge us (who are created in His own image). I have studied and taught the Bible for 20 years now and hope you can find the time to discover real heroes like David and Elijah. We are due for a worldwide upheaval and looking at some of the crazy stuff on You Tube is confusing. MK-Ultra victims like Duncan O'Finioan and Brice Taylor or Skull and Bones researchers like Anthony Sutton and G. Edward Griffin show that science fiction is a reality in our time. Anyway, I enjoyed the videos.

I agree with your comment about an apprentice defeating a master many times through manipulation of external situations. I give a reference - The spirit of Karness Muur possessed Celeste Morne and fought against Darth Vader. Karness Muur told Vader to kill Morne and to his talisman for himself. With the talisman, Vader could destroy Palpatine. Vader fled that desert for he "feared" trading one master (Palpatine) for another. Morne and Muur's spirit were left stranded in the desert...

Oooo. Good reference! I'm somewhat of the belief that one's not a true Star Wars fan if they don't know anything of the Expanded Universe. I love me some Karness Muur. One of the examples I use is Exar Kun defeating Freedon Nadd. Freedon Nadd was clearly more powerful, even as a disembodied force ghost, and Kun only defeated him by using a Sith amulet that greatly enhanced the power of his force abilities.

Agreed. He was a true master in Soresu and a true master in that form has never been openly defeated in combat if I've read my sources correctly.

Oh and additionally if someone used an ability once, that most probably means they will use it again. It does't carry wieght saying they only used it once. ( well not the "merging with the force" oneness thing that multiple skywalkers did that was a one time thing... i think)

Given the power of some of Zannah's darkside abilities and the fact Darth Bane would have taught her everything he knew it wouldn't be a jump to say she would know a vast amount of force abilities with a lot of skill, but may not have shown them. - Though the point about her over specialising is very relevant here and would show in a fight, and her lack of adapting despite being patient and cunning.

Exactly. Many people make the mistake of concluding that, because an apprentice defeated their master, they must be more powerful. In almost every case of a Sith apprentice defeating his or her master, he or she often does so only through key opportunities or deception and trickery... rarely through superior skill.

This might be an off topic… but with the fact that Zannah lived on Ruusan as a kid, did that have an effect on her progress as a Force user? I am just asking that because of the fact that is where the Valley of the Jedi is located. I kind of take the events that happened in the Dark Forces trilogy lightly because each version of the story was slightly different depending on the fact that it was the game, graphic novel, or online resources. What actually happened seems to be left up to the person that is reading the story, & picking & choosing details like a being at a buffet table. Picking what you like but leaving the rest behind. But the thing about Ruusan & the Valley is each Force user (light or dark) that spent time on that planet grew in talent more quickly than I think that they naturally would on their own through training. In the Dark Forces trilogy, I would say that the 3 Force users that were effected the most were Jerec, Kyle, & Yun. In 1 point of the graphic novel, there is a moment when Qu Rahn’s spirit kind of mentor’s Yun to fend off a Force ghost similar to what Ben did with Luke on Hoth. So my question is being on planet that would increase your skills that quickly, how would that effect the user in terms in their ability. Not that it is always an issue… but sometimes experience plays more of a role than talent. If her Force powers were turbo charged on the planet, I wonder how that effected her training. Intentional, or unintentional.

Allright, this is wrong in force wielder section.. I may agree on saber mastery, even the endurance part, allthough all information is coming from a cartoon.. but force wielder section is totally wrong.. It's not because the power requirements for some powers. It's about calling Zannah uncunning and straightforward. All I want to, is to point at is the base teachings of the Rule of Two.. Cunning, and secrecy is the true powers of the Dark Side. And an intelligent person like Bane thought these to a straightforward uncunning person ? Simply put, Zannah will be very able to time her powers right, not just rush head on with them.. Another problem I am having is the lack of sources about Zannah, this is not related to the creator of the video though. In this video, the info about her is coming from two books, and mostly from her apprenticeship (in which she was already able to hold her own against a swordmaster) Meanwhile Shaak Ti's source is coming from several sources, which gives her an obvious advantage. As it's described in Darth Plagueis novel, ascension to the Master title is an act of such ambition and greed, that it increases person's connection to the dark side of the force effectively.. So it's not hard to imagine if we take a Zannah into this duel, right after she defeated Bane, she'll be much more powerful then a moment before it.. And then, there is the difference of twenty years of exprience, in which Zannah would probably improve her powers and learn new skills from Holocron's she would've uncovered. But that's not the point. In conclusion, If we take a Zannah from the moment after she defeated Bane (and effectively prevented him from capturing her body) She would be an all-powerfull sorceress with cunning and patience, if it were only about force powers, she'd rip Shaak Ti apart. Which means, she'd have advantage over her in Force Wielding section. Ending of the battle may still be in Shaak Ti's favor when all things included. (and I have a question, didnt Shaak Ti killed by Anakin on the assault to the Temple, as it was seen clearly in the movie ? How come she faced Vader's Assassin in the game ?)
