It reminds me of WAY back when I was a teenager in ‘68. When Barbra Streisand was cast in Hello, Dolly! all they could talk about was how at 26 she was too young for the part. Then when audiences actually saw the movie they forgot all about that and it just didn’t matter. I hope the same thing happens for Ben.

“So many people are gonna cry” Actually, so many people already did. I really hope making people cry from just the trailer means that they will nail the movie I’m also a bit worried about Zoe. I really prefer Laura’s approach to the softer approach that some took I’m also worried about what songs they’ll cut. I’m not sure they will cut anything, but they probably will, especially since they seem to be writing new songs for the movie. I heard they are adding a song for Alana. But there’s honestly not a single bad or dispensable song in this soundtrack, so I hope they don’t cut anything I’m so excited for this movie. I just hope theaters open in my country soon

When i first saw the trailer the first thing i thought was that they will cut Sincerely me which is soooo sad because that’s one of the funniest songs i have ever heard but judging by the tone of the trailer they made the movie be more serious and that song wouldn’t fit : (

Ben was indeed too old to play this role now but, to be fair, we rarely see any media where teenagers are played people who actually looks like teenagers Besides, him looking disheveled in this makes up for it, truly looking like he has anxiety BTW, I’m not crying. You’re crying!

I teared up when this trailer hit. I’m looking forward to this movie and I’ve been counting down the days since it was announced. I can’t wait to hear Ben Platt sing Words Fail (my favorite song from the musical). This musical is going to resonate with so many people because it approaches issues that we all deal with at times. ❤️

Part of going to the movies is suspending our disbelief, on a variety of levels. Ben’s performance is so extraordinary, so singular, that why should we not be able to suspend our expectations in order to be blessed with his performance in this amazing work of art.

Personally, I think Ben pulls off the anxious teen look just fine... I mean, the boy is a mess, he's gonna have some eye-bags. His body language and posture absolutely makes up for any age problems for me, not to mention that I wouldn't be able to accept any other VOICE. And I love his floofy hair, by the way. I mean, a seventeen-year-old boy with a busy single mom? He's not going to get his hair cut regularly.

i just know im gonna be sobbing by the end of this movie bahah. I agree about the Zoe casting thing you said, I absolutely love Laura Dreyfuss's version of the role. I think it will be interesting to see Kaitlyn play the role since I have never really seen her perform before, but we will just have to wait and see!

I love your reaction so much, and relate!!! Especially on how Ben Platt plays/sings Evan like absolutely no other. His tone and use of vibrato....oh my gosh. I had an enormously challenging time in public high school, I seriously couldn't talk to ANYONE and would have panic attacks when I tried. Like, full-on sobbing in the bathroom at lunch panic attacks. I found DEH in Grade 11 and since then have been SO emotionally attached to the soundtrack and Ben's portrayal of Evan because it mirrored my own experience so closely. Sorry for the super long comment; I wanted to share to express the magnitude of empathic response that this musical and BEN spurs within me. Because of that, I appreciate this video and your enthusiasm for the trailer so much!! THANK YOU!!!!

I just found this musical today(watched on HBO I'm so out of the loop and I'm musical obsessed). Anyway, for someone who deals with social anxiety and depression(I've never been to a therapist) I can clearly relate.

This is one that I probably won't be seeing in the theater. The last time I cried this much over a trailer was the trailer for Les Miserable with Anne Hathaway's "I Dreamed a Dream". When I saw the actual movie in the theater, I wasn't just ugly crying, I was ugly bawling. Have a feeling this is one I'll be watching at home by myself with a 6 pack of tissue.

At 30 years old, I still feel the same emotions that You Will Be Found portrays! There is not a song that sums up depression and anxiety, in such a beautiful way! I feel alone, terrified, and overwhelmed all the time. Dear Evan Hansen, especially the first act, is me. This awkward, nerdy person, who has almost no friends, and see her therapist weekly, so I can deal with the emotional issues no one else gets.

One song I wish and pray that they add in this movie is "The Bedroom Down the Hall" even if it will rip the heart clean out of my chest, I just want it to happen! It's such a beautiful and tragic song that touches on a mother's grief. I was sad that it was cut from the show but hopefully it'll be back for the movie!

Wow - awesome reaction vid! I cried just watching you get so emotional lol. So excited to hear about your DEH Wednesday series - just subbed and can't wait to watch that playlist! This show means so much to me (as it does to so many), and you are so right - this movie will impact countless others who would otherwise not be able to experience this powerful, masterful piece of musical theater. I'm totally obsessed with this show (have seen it 5 times so far and will be at the Broadway re-opening on 12/11) because I am in my mid-50s and sadly still have not been found, but this show always gives me hope. If you're interested, they have started running television commercials advertising the trailer (yeah I know, a commercial to advertise a trailer lol) that features "Waving" as the background music. It's posted on my channel and it shows a clip of how that song will be performed. Hoping for a whole series of commercials will be coming out featuring snippets of different songs!

Its funny how you mention Julianne Moore changed her name because Julie Ann Smith was already taken. I literally just watched her video with Matt Damon where she revealed that. Isn't KZfaq awesome!? Lol, meanwhile this film is everything right now! Im so glad its finally getting a film adaptation before Ben Platt can no longer play this role anymore. Ben Platt had to lose 15 lbs just to get into his film adaptation role. My favorite tracks are You Will Be Found, Words Fail and Only Us.

I think I hid it better, but I felt exactly like Evan when I was in high school. I'm kind of glad this movie didn't come out then as I'm pretty certain I would have been obsessed with it to an unhealthy degree. As it is I am looking forward to it and will definitely cry. A lot.

I cried almost all through the trailer. Opening night September 24, Ben Platt's birthday. I hope Julianne Moore can handle singing So Big / So Small - I'm confident she can handle the acting. If I could make one casting switch, I would put in Rachel Bay Jones (she won the Tony, after all).

I totally understand some people who gripe about using older people to play teens instead of employing actual teens. For me, this time it's more about how iconic ben is as evan. Others have done it sure, but he is just so completely evan I think it was the right choice. Once the movie starts, we're all gonna forget about anyone's age anyway. Also overall, I think parts should go to people who best fit them, regardless of age or anything else. If it works, it works!

You don't get many people who originate the roles in a musical to play in the movie version. They did Ben dirty with his hair but idc I'm just happy more people will get to see this musical as not everyone can see it.

When I was seeing all the complaints online about him being cast it was also by the same people who shared a bunch of homophobic content and would also complain cause there was a major character that was black. Speaking of I'd love to see you react to Anonymous Ones which is the song Amandla Stenberg sings in the movie or any of Ben Platt's original music

I'm really looking forward to this. Though I'm apprehensive about the length of the movie and the number of songs that can be used in it. 13 on the OCR. If they're adding more, then they have to cut some-which I hate

A lot of people harping on Ben for his age. A lot of teenage characters are played by young adults. Like in the movie "Grease" hell even "Caddyshack" Alan Ruck for example was 29 when he played Cameron Frye for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

I wish Disappear would have been in the film. I thin k the song is sweet.and magicalI know what he did during the song ,but I think the word and harmonyand other things about the scene and song are lovely.and the Murphy's sing a little .:-(🙂

Before this trailer , I knew that Evan broke his arm, had some type of depression /anxiety and there was a misunderstanding due to social media... Now I feel like I've seen the entire movie because the trailer gave away all the good beats

I liked the movie, but I'm so disappointed that I didn't love it. Like, there was no reason this movie should've gone wrong in any way. Ben Platt was back, the director's made great movies, Pasek and Paul wrote two new songs, they added more redemption for Evan in the end, and the supporting cast was stellar. But cutting out the songs they did really was detrimental to the plot. The biggest ones being Disappear and Good For You. I still give the movie a 7.5/10, but I feel like there's just no reason it should've been lower than an 8.5/10

As a pit musician and orchestrator, I always have a unique perspective of stage to movie adaptations. Going from a small orchestra (of which Dear Even Hansen is brilliant for only using strings, but giving them an occasional pseudo brass line) to a full studio orchestra often makes me nervous. You can lose the intimacy of a simple orchestration and overwhelm the vocals. From what I've heard so far, they only enhanced the broadway orchestration, which is good for this show. Going to a full orchestra, like in Beauty and the Beast, elevates musicals to a grander scale. Dear Evan Hansen needs to remain intimate to work and ensure the emotion of the lyrics, and the small nuances of the actors' vocals are fully supported and not infringed upon. I'm looking forward to the two new songs, but I'm also afraid one of them will get the "pop star" treatment. I understand the need for a song from a movie to receive some airplay, but I still cringe when the simplicity of a Broadway song gets the Christine Aguilera treatment. Thanks for the review!

It’s getting slammed by movie critics, with some going as far as saying it’s “ghoulish” and doesn’t measure up to the stage show (which some critics say also had a number of “issues”.) I try really hard to judge these things for myself BUT my county has an exploding number of COVID-19 Delta cases. The hospitals are full. I haven’t sat through a movie in a theater since February 2020. So, unfortunately, I’m not likely to watch this at my local AMC or Regal. I’m vaccinated…I wear a mask every time I leave the house-but no. Maybe someday on streaming….

I'm really tired of the backlash Ben is getting. I love that he's in this. I don't care about his age. Like none of the actors are the right age in anything. A broadway actor, being in the film adaptation as the character they originated is completely unheard of. Ben deserves being in this movie, being a lead in a movie especially when Pitch Perfect just wasted him. I'm also gonna be a wreck, other than the story itself--- this comes out on the 12th anniversary of when my dad passed away.

Film was great and so was the trailer...it has alot more impact if you dont stop every 15 seconds for a narrative tho..Just saying it.. reaction video should be just that... Do your sum up at the end..

I know I am in a very small minority, but I’m not as in love with Ben’s voice as everyone else. He sounds phenomenal in the spoken/sung portions, but I’m not a fan of his vibrato. It’s too fast (or is it narrow?) for my liking. It’s just a personal preference. I’m sure he will have awards thrown at him. :)

I think you really should have watched the trailer through without pausing so you could have a full reaction then went back through it and broke it down. Because when you keep stopping it the first time seeing it it looses it's full impact.

Tbh I heard of this musical and like from some who suffers from social anxiety and depression this musical seems like it does more harm him taking advantage of this kids parents and making it so by end of it no one really knows who Connor is I just don’t like that message
