Edward didn’t stab his creator. The old man had a heart attack and died. As he fell to the ground, he leaned forward a little and Edward’s new hands fell into his scissor hands and got broken. Edward lost his father and his new hands at the same time. 🥺

This was in the narration the old woman gives, right at the beginning, if you go back and listen: "He died before he got to finish the man he invented". It lets us know where the flashbacks are building up to - Edward will be almost finished, but the man dies before he can get his hands. I don't think he destroys the hands, as I always interpreted the gift of the hands to be metaphorical, not the actual hands he build for him, since they look like wax mannequin hands, just that he's getting hands next. I don't think him stabbing the hands is about loss, it's just contrast between what he has vs what could have been with his "father" dead. Even if the old man doesn't fall forward, there's no one to finish him.

To me, Edward always read as an allegory for ND people with 'savant-like' skills, who are valued by others for their unusual talents, but when they show signs of atypical or 'undesirable' behavior, people no longer want anything to do with them.

That's a great take on it.... what's so great about the film is it's never explicitly stated as being an allegory for one thing or another, but there are definitely so many applicable readings for what Edward and how he is treated can represent and say about human nature... whether it's disability, race, gender, sexuality or just generally not fitting in with your people, it shows how judgemental, opportunistic, tribal and cruel people can be even when someone is so pure, sweet, innocent, kind and loving. The main conclusion I think it makes is that just because a person is treated like that, it doesn't stop them sharing with the world their gifts regardless. Edward is shunned yes, but the story is perfect and beautiful in that he keeps giving snow to the town anyway. Even in the darkness, you have to keep shining your light...

This unfortunately was Vincent Price’s last film before his death. He was the inventor in this film and Tim Burton loved him and had him narrate a short film called Vincent. People will now him better as the narrator for the Michael Jackson son Thriller who says “Darkness falls across the land…” Some films with him I would recommend include: Comedy of Terrors, House of Wax (1953 film), The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Theatre of Blood, You know him also as the voice of Professor Ratigan from Great Mouse Detective.

Tim Burton's masterpiece - it's a pure love letter to all creatives, storytellers and artists who like Edward all have creativity, imagination and big hearts and yet so often for all sorts of reasons they do not fit the mold of society.... it's a story about how society cherishes their creativity but also disposes of it and the person when they no longer want it... how storytellers and artists are most often not quite understood as people but provide so much beauty and joy to a world that scorns or mocks them. The ending is perfectly happy/tragic... it shows the truth of the creative person in the sheer power and beauty they give to the world - with Edward giving the town snow - but the reality of all the time spent alone he has making it and how he's been pushed away by them, and yet the inspiring power in the story in that he still gives that beauty regardless. No matter how cruel the world is, this story is the perfect example of how we all have to shine our light no matter what... This is a film that has such personal meaning to so many for all these reasons, I'm so happy to see you enjoyed. Great reaction!
@natureboy95

really a beautiful movie, with a ton of messages to read from the way the town reacted throughout. I always notice how multiple people in town mentioned finding a doctor to help him with his hands, but we never actually see any of them making the effort. It's words that make them seem friendly without any actual effort behind them. They all enjoyed him when they thought he could give something to them, but the moment he appeared a threat to their own sense of decency the town turned just like that. Definitely going to have to watch this movie again soon in full! edit: Just remembered also that one older neighbor who, at the barbeque, told Edward to not let anyone ever call him handicapped, and then later he's asking the little brother if they'd caught the "cripple" yet. Just a sharp and really well done twist overall.

I watched this in Drama -Director’s Class, and there’s a lot of symbolic things in this film, like how the shapes of the sculptures change, or what they’re made of, or the specific thing he creates, all based on Edward’s character arc; or how the color red was scarcely used in order to emphasize that it creates a feeling of danger, and when we first see Edward first draw blood, the color red becomes everywhere.

Woohoo! A movie I've seen. Anyways, you gotta warm some olive oil, not too hot, put it on a cotton ball and stick it in your ear. It makes it feel better at least. Make sure you're wiping your ear buds with alcohol, again on a cotton ball, to clean the germs so you don't put infection back in your ear as you heal either. You'll also need to either eat yogurt or take probiotics to counter the antibiotics affect on your tummy. 👩🏼‍⚕️ The old man, Edward's dad/maker, is played by Vincent Price. He was the biggest icon of classic horror films. I loved him. He was Tim Burton's idol. This was his last movie. If you've heard Michael Jackson's song "Thriller", he did the talking part. The other old guy is Alan Arkin. He's a hoot. Dianne Wiest has been in a ton of great movies. The two of them are Oscar winning actors. Johnny's only been nominated. And yes Anthony Michael Hall is from the John Hughes movies including The Breakfast Club.

The dad in the family(who you recognized)is Alan Arkin! Jim WAS from the "Breakfast Club"! Went from the nerd to the jock! Your sheer rage and shock that Joyce lied about Edward is so amazing. The final shot of Edward carving the ice sculptures always makes me cry, but really, the story does show that it was okay. It was bittersweet, but Edward was happier on the hill than with the people, who were little more than fairweather friends who turned on him the second they thought anything was wrong with him, despite the fact he had innocence to him and a childlike mentality that shouldn't have made them blame him for the attempted break in.

One of the best movies of all time. I looooove Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. I know Edward doesn't have autism, but his behaviour with having to learn social cues manually still hit close to home.

4:44 9:38 34:38 Danny Elfman has made many enchanting music in movies, but maybe in this film it's the most fantastic. 10:52 And you need to remember that is like Johnny's first main role in a movie. He is just staring his career. 15:20 "He is so handy." :) :( 16:43 It is sadder when they first like you, and then hate you. 26:59 27:22 Kathy Baker looks hot. 31:31 "Because you asked me to." :( I wish you would have more to say of how you thought or feeled about this more than 60 seconds.

Tim Burton said this is a metaphor for his childhood, except he didn't have a Peg in his life. Same with a Kim one too I think.

The score in this movie is like having another character. It has a life of its very own, truly other worldly. This is in my top 3 favourite movies of all time (#1 The Wizard of Oz & #3 Beetlejuice), so I've seen it a LOT! And still, every time I hear the score, it makes me want to cry and really tugs at my heartstrings.

well.. talk about having terrible neighbors.. But now for real, that is one of the most beautiful and most devastating stories to be ever told This take on the Frankenstein tale turned into this modern fairy tale - just beautiful. It really shows how terrible society is. It’s so disgusting how it’s always the most innocent and pure hearted souls to get abused and taken advantage of until they end up being used enough or don’t want to play that part anymore so they get turned into the villain and end up being thrown out, or maybe „cancelled“ as a better term, by society. It’s heartbreaking really. Every single aspect. I literally cannot watch that movie without crying my eyes out because of how tragic the story is. Probably the most tragic aspect is how the other people are dying one by one as the years go by and maybe at one point Edward’s story is also going to die with them meanwhile Edward is forced to live forever and ever in isolation.. alone just with his memories, unable to reconnect with people but also unable to die.. I just cannot- ♥️ Anyways thanks for reacting to this masterpiece!! There are definitely too little reactions out there for this movie

When the inventor lifted the heart cookie up to the robot it was saying that the inventor was thinking of creating something with a heart. Like a robot with a heart which is Edward. And he didn’t stab the inventor he just had a heart attack and that’s why he never got to finish Edward and give him his hands.
