Warsaw just keeps surprising us in awesome ways.
Today, we went to explore a brand new neighborhood that many of you had recommended. But we honestly didn't expect it to look like it that.
Following that, we returned back to the center and had a simple but very satisfying lunch. We then looked at the check and couldn't believe just how unbelievable economical it was.

About Wilanów Palace you are right - it seems like a separate city - because it was, in a way. This was a suburban King's residence near Warsaw. It is just that Warsaw.. well, since then, got much bigger :D and now Wilanow is a district of the city. And this little palace complex is now surrounded by a lot of new flats built in the last 10-20 years. The district expanded/built up a lot during late 90s/early 00s and was settled by a lot of "yuppies" - the first generation where a lot of young people managed to make decent money in corporate/capitalist Poland that was shaping up - and looked for a place to settle. The emerging middle-class, in a way.

I would definitely check out Kabaty if I were you. It has some modern buildings, and it’s much better communicated with the rest of the city, because of metro. Also, parking there is much easier, lots of shops, the wood is very close, so a good place to go for a walk. I used to live there and I loved it. I also used to work in Caffè Nero in Wilanów for over a year, and I didn’t really get a good impression after closer examination of the neighbourhood.

Wilanów used to be a separate city on the outskirts of Warsaw which is why you felt the small town vibe. ;) The palace in Wilanów was the summer residence of the kings while the castle in the old town was their main residence (on the castle square you visited in one of your earlier videos). Between the castle and the palace is a street with a few names along the way but collectively it's called the royal route (trakt królewski) with Łazienki park lying along it about halfway through. In modern Polish łazienka means bathroom, in those days Łazienki park housed the royal baths. :)

Parking isn't that bad. What's worse is the traffic congestion. Before Covid, it was hell in the morning. The streets were so clogged that the traffic lines started in the parking lots. That's why my cousin ended up selling her condo and leaving this area. Nowadays, with so many people working from home, it's not as bad, but it remains something to take into consideration before moving over there. The city is planning a new tramway line that will connect Wilanów to the city centre. It should be ready in two years. A lot of people were waiting for such an announcement, because this area clearly needs more public transport options (the buses are not enough).

Rent for a two room open kitchen apartment (+-)40m2 is around 2800 PLN including a place in the underground garage. In addition you have to pay electricity and cable TV/Internet. There are plenty of such "modern" neighbourhoods in Warsaw. There's Marina Mokotow (on the Mokotow-Ochota border), there is also the Skorosze neighborhood in Ursus, or General Marian Cooper Street in Bemowo (I was last there 3 years ago, and they were building lots of those buildings), you'll find them in Zoliborz (Przasnyska street and the surrounding area) then there is Saska Kepa on the right side of the river.

Yup, king of the past has built himself a new Villa outside of the capital. The villa is not so "nova" any more, but name Wilanów prevailed. Remember that if you want to eat out, then you should always consider the milk bar. I don't know how, but they have an amazing quality to price ratio. Łazienki Park and Palace are another King's doing. If you look at the building from across the pond it seems like it was built on the water. That's why it is also known as the palace on the water. Good to see you enjoying the sun.

Of course hitting pause at exactly the right moment is a little tricky. :-) The other night I tracked down a commuter train station, in Russia, on a map, from somebody pointing it out on KZfaq video. It was hard finding the right map. Most of them didn't show all the stations. They were in Cyrillic. And this one was abbreviated. But I really like subway maps (they are so much simpler than regular maps) so I thought I'd give it a shot. Which gives me a question: You have a United States driver's license? How do you renew that? Hopefully all the legal tangles to let you stay in Poland are coming along.

Wilanów to bogata dzielnica. Zwłaszcza jego stara cześć z przedwojennymi i obecnymi willami. Kiedyś to było oddzielne miasteczko, a teraz jest taką podmiejską dzielnicą. Tam uciekają bogaci i sławni. Pałac w Wilanowie to była podmiejska rezydencja króla. Taki nasz polski Wersal. Król jechał trasą, która dziś nazywa się Trakt Królewski i zaczyna się na placu Zamkowym (to ten Zamek Królewski w centrum Warszawy z Kolumną Zygmunta i obok Starówki), biegnie Krakowskim Przedmieściem, Nowym Światem, Alejami Ujazdowskimi, ulicami Belwederską i Sobieskiego do Wilanowa. Warto tę trasę przejechać samemu w letni pogodny dzień np. na rowerze.

To prawda. Trochę to smutne... Warto też pamiętać, że Wilanów, chociaż wszedł do Warszawy po wojnie, historycznie jest częścią mikroregionu zwanego Urzeczeni, który w XVIII/XIX wieku był bardzo zamożny.

I hope you both feel good and safe in Poland. :) We are glad that many people have found shelter in our country. I do not know to what extent you have experienced the horrors of war, but if you feel up to it, I really recommend visiting the Warsaw Uprising Museum (you will find there the answer to the question why Warsaw is so diverse and modern buildings mix with the older, sometimes pre-war buildings) and drive to 14 Waliców Street (the border of the Warsaw Ghetto was located nearby during the war, but that's not why I recommend this place;)). However, I would not like these places to be traumatic for you due to what is happening in Ukraine, so I would like to emphasize: if you are ready for it or maybe, when the situation in Ukraine calms down (I hope it will soon), I heartily recommend visiting The Warsaw Uprising Museum and seeing the mysterious place on 14 Waliców Street is really worth it! Best regards and make yourself at home in Poland! :)

If we are talking about completely new apartments, there is a lot of it in Warsaw. Powiśle, Port Praski, Odolany - these are probably the places closest to the city center. But there will be a new housing estate in each district. A tram and train trip around Warsaw and you choose for yourself :) definitely look for places with access to trams, metro and rail. There are relatively fast buses from Wilanów, but they still get stuck in traffic jams.

I can see that you really enjoy visiting parks. So I recommend you to go to Kępa Potocka on Żoliborz. It is not very famous but it is definitelly worth to see. PS. In Sobieski Palac neighbrhood there is really nice museum of polish movie posters. You can check it on the next visit in Wilanów ; )

There are much more places like Miasteczko Wilanów. Check Żoliborz Artystyczny close to Pl. Niemena and Rydgiera street. Much closer to the city centre and even more modern architecture. You will like it

Warsaw is divided into 18 districts which, while maintaining their own character, make up the image of the entire city. The districts are: Bemowo, Białołęka, Bielany, Mokotów, Ochota, Praga Południe, Praga Północ, Rembertów, Śródmieście, Targówek, Ursus, Ursynów, Wawer, Wesoła, Wilanów, Włochy, Wola, Żoliborz.

Miasteczko Wilanów was good for a start. Now you can check Sady Żoliborskie and Odolany just to compare. Other modern residential areas. They are closer to the city centre and overall I think cheaper. Powiśle (around Elektronia Powiśle) a the Wistula rover is also nice but rather small.

@Robert Urbańczyk Have you ever been there? Sadyba is right by the aleja Sobiekiego, which goes straight to Staròwka with many interconnetions, and there are buses, on one side. On the other side there is Czerniakowska with plenty of good public transport right there.

Wilanów is nice but crazy expensive, unfortunately. Also, a car becomes a necessity because there are only busses available there when it comes to public transportation. But you don't need to go to the city center while living there anyway, everything is right on spot. :)
