Week 2 at the Chateau: brocante markets and projects around the house

I know I promised you a French fries festival but it ended up being a truck selling French fries, beer and live music. Not exactly what my kids had in minds, so we skipped it.
This past week we visited a couple of brocante markets, got few things from hardware store, rolled up sleeves and got to work!
Our shipment from the US should be here exactly one month from now and believe me, I need it.

Mix 1 gallon vinegar and 1 cup salt together with a tablespoon of dish detergent, use sprayer to kill the weeds coming out of the walls.

Did just that on a tree stump hoping to make it stop growing, will need to make more for the weeds.

I think you need to use a brush on the staircase and really get into all the grooves. Try a baking soda scrub on the stone.

If the salt doesn't work on the weeds, try boiling water; the water should go into the paving cracks as well. My mother also used it on anthills.

If you can find an Emmaus brocante nearby, their prices are very low and usually the store is neatly organized. These are through France and have spread to many other countries.

Yes! We have been to one this past weekend and we liked it a lot. I have a feeling I will be back there frequently

Use a mixture of salt, white vinegar, liquid soap and some water to spray on your weeds. Do it on a sunny day

I love going to the brocante to see all the items. You have many projects ahead but just do what you can each day little projects or big ones eventually they will all get done. I so enjoy hearing of your progress and look forward to your next video ❤

A good resource for you is to get in contact with the conservators of some of the great chateaus which are museums and find out how they approach these jobs. Hang in there on those tough days.

Salt really do work pour it at base of plant do not pour water on salt morning dew will do the trick salt have saved e days of hard work also good for slugs

Did not have much luck with salt alone so far… but maybe because we have drought and no morning dew? Just checked on the weeds yesterday and salt is still at their base but the weeds are growing just fine…

You need to scrub what you are just wiping the dirt will not come of with just a Cloth elbow greese will bring it up lovely

Vinegar with salt and soap will kill vegetation. You can google the exact recipe. Good luck.

It's best to use horticultural vinegar or industrial vinegar for this. It's much stronger so it works better. Regular vinegar works well on very young plants.

Also the salt is very bad for the stones. It will break up the surface and cause further damage.
