This gives cities the power to locate homeless camps where they will have the least negative impact on the community. Much needed, thank you.

"Homebodies" don't like to be "fat-shamed" yet have a nasty habit of "home-shaming" City Settlers by labeling them "homeless or houseless." Where are the settlers' landings that once enriched and accommodated city newcomers? Many of these home-shamers are distant descendants of settlers enjoying their rich American Heritage -- and yet because of that wouldn't think twice about "home-shaming American Indians" now either.

Punishing people for sleeping on the streets because they're poor or have mental health problems is like punishing someone for struggling to walk with a broken leg.

So bothering people for money, blocking public walkways, using drugs in the open, defacating in the street is fine with you?

San Francisco will continue to allow public vagrancy. The size of that city’s unhoused population is too large to control with anti-vagrancy ordinances.

City governments are not required to punish vagrants for camping or sleeping in public. SCOTUS just said they “can” impose penalties and outright ban sleeping or camping in public. Many Left Coast cities will allow public vagrancy to continue unabated.

Prop 10 will help. If I remember right, it requires 30% of the funds cities/counties receive for homelessness to be used to build housing for them. It passed by the skin of its teeth.

@@saramae9878 We've poured $billions into solving the homeless problem, it doesn't work. The non profits don't want to solve the problem, If they did they wouldn't get more Govt funding every year and would be out of a job! It gets worse year after year. Insurance companies are increasing rates in CA by 30% or simply not covering Californians because it is too expensive for them. Politicians in charge of this state have turned it into a dangerous crime ridden hell hole where laws aren't enforced and criminals know they aren't going to be punished. Its pathetic.

Not sure about this ruling at all. It does not address the bottom line causes of homelessness. Mental issues... these people are no longer given proper mental health and are released after a short period of time from mental hospitals or facilities. Loss of a job or employment.... many people are just one paycheck away from the possibility of not being able to afford rent. Rents in some places, like CA, are notoriously high. Lack and funding for shelters for people forced into homelessness. The wait list for subsidized affordable housing can be a year or more long. And other issues that contribute to this such as drugs. The majority of people would rather NOT be homeless. But now being on hard times will be illegal. And the contributing causes have not been addressed.

Yup Rent is so high we shouldnt have to pay that much and still be harassed by homeless living outside our property.
@saramae9878

Affordable housing is the big one. If people could afford studio apartments at minimum wage, and such apartments were available, a lot of homelessness would disappear. "Affordable" being 33% of income, that means rent for such a place would have to be $860. Median studio prices in LA for example are about double that.

@@saramae9878 I totally agree. But I don't see that happening soon and certainly not in time for the people immediately affected by this ruling to have an actual place to live.

@@heathervandewalle8954 100% agree, unfortunately. The right time to fix this was 50 years ago. People are suffering from decades of... I don't even know. Apathy? Greed?
@heathervandewalle8954

@@saramae9878 I think it might be a combination of both. Some people don't care about their plight because they are not going through it. Others don't want to spend the $ necessary to fix the problem. The problem is also becoming worse because in years past, families were closer and multi generational famlies living under one roof were more common. So they shared resources.

Maybe the Sanctuary State of CA should start advocating for a border wall? How is allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the state with no where to live who have no right to be in the country in the first place doing anything to solve the homeless situation? I'd like to focus on helping Americans for a change.
