Some things I want to say that took me a while to realize as I come to understand my gender that I want others to know: You are valid if you question your identity and realize you’re cis You are valid if you are trans and like things that are stereotypically for the sex you were assigned at birth You are valid if you identify only partially with the sex you were assigned at birth and partially with another Gender expression does not equal gender identity If you are non-binary, you are not obligated to be androgynous And no matter what you are loved and valid!

I once felt extremely stressed out by that idea even though people would try to be comforting. Like, how could I figure out my gender if they didn’t have a set meaning? How would I know what applied to me without a standard definition? A philosophical idea I read once made me feel a lot better about it. It read, “There is no definition of a chair that anyone can create which would include all chairs and exclude all non-chairs.” It basically reminded me that ALL language is imperfect, and if I can use words at all, then I can figure this out.

Hi Laurenzo, just to clarify: Genderfluid can be both an umbrella term for gender identities that change over time and a specific gender identity. As an umbrella term, it also includes Genderflux, which is when someone's gender identity varies in intensity. They might go from agender to demi gender to fully gendered. Another, probably less common, identity is the combination of Genderfluid and Genderflux: Fluidflux. A fluidflux person's gender varies both in identity (boy, girl, bigender, nonbinary) and intensity (fully gendered, demi gender, agender)

@@ImLiterallySoup Hey! For me, I still use my birth name, but my usernames online are all sorts of different names, and I usually don’t correct people bc 1 it helps protect my identity from creeps online and 2 it feels nice to have multiple, differently gendered names! For context, my birth name is Nena, which is a shortened version of my great grandma’s name “Chenena” (it’s a Muskogee Creek name) and I’m actually planning on changing my name legally to the full version to honor her. At the same time, ask most random strangers I’ve interacted with in youtube comments and they’ll say my name is Chesterson! And that doesn’t even take into account stage personas and LARP characters I’ve created for myself, which I’ll admit I haven’t really gotten the chance to use thanks to COVID. But basically, what works for me is keeping my legal name but using various aliases so I don’t feel tied down to one name. I hope this helps you, even if this advice isn’t quite a fit.

Hi! I struggled with this for a while, and I've found it to be less stress inducing to figure out what my style is for a particular day instead of figuring out my gender. Once I'm out and about for the day in the clothes that make me feel good TODAY, I ask myself which pronouns I'd feel comfortable with today. "If Lizzie ordered coffee for me and used she, how would I feel?" If I squirm i move on to the next set of pronouns. Sometimes I have more than one set I'm comfortable with, sometimes all of them make me uncomfy. Only after I've gotten dressed in something I feel comfy in and figure out the pronouns I'm comfy with do I think "huh, I wonder what my gender is". Because even if I don't know or it's too confusing to figure out, I'm comfortable. The other day I wore makeup and eyeliner and glitter and jewelry and feminine clothing, but I didn't want my t*tties to show, and I did NOT want she/her pronouns, but instead wanted he/him. And that's great! Bc gender identity (how you feel inside) does not have to correlate with your gender expression (what you present visibly)!! Hope this helps! Rina (he/they/she)

Hi! I'm Ally, I'm genderfluid. You did a pretty good job of explaining, so I'll just add a little bit more and just offer to answer any questions! ☺️ First: never assume to know a genderfluid person's experience just because you know another genderfluid person. Every person's experiences differ. For me, I mostly go between female and nonbinary-leaning masc, with occasional days where I will feel entirely male, or even multiple genders at once. However, other genderfluid people may have the exact opposite experience and only have female days occasionally. Second: please please please always ask for pronouns EVERY time you see a genderfluid friend (if they're out publicly. Do not out them 😡). And also ask if they have "default" pronouns for when you don't have an opportunity to ask. For example, I'm basically always okay with they/them pronouns if you don't have a chance to ask day to day Third: Be aware that a genderfluid person's gender could change once every couple of months or even years, to every SECOND. It honestly just depends, so be patient with us. Hope this helps! --Ally

I'm out to everyone as being nonbinary, but I haven't really gone into detail explaining it to everyone because it's frustrating enough for myself. I did talk to my partner about it pretty in depth though and I told them when I find ones I like I'm going to get different color bracelets to represent which pronouns I prefer to be referred to that day so they know without having to ask me. I've told them too if they're not sure which ones to use when talking to someone and I'm not around to ask for them to use they/ them pronouns.

I recently came out as agender and have already come out as aroace (So yeah, I'm like the holy trinity of NOPE). I never really understood the logic behind all these gender norms because I never saw myself as woman or man either and don't like it when everything has to be gendered (pink is a girl color, dresses are for women, blablabla... or creative words like mansplaining or manspreading). It's just wrong and discriminating against everyone who just wants to be themselves. And I can say it feels way more comfortable to say that I don't want any gender to define me as a person because I don't do it with other people either.

Hey! You asked for gender fluid people to kind of explain what it’s like so if it’s helpful - I’m gender fluid and I’d be happy to explain! Personally I identify as non-binary/ gender fluid . I use they/them pronouns . I occasionally wake up and look in the mirror and think “oh! It’s a man” I occasionally wake up and think “look! It’s a person!” . I would say sometimes I do feel more feminine but I usually avoid using she/her pronouns as it makes me feel uncomfortable . Btw this is a fake name for this account - I don’t use Lola or any female name given to me at birth . The reason why I would describe being gender fluid is because some days I feel more masculine and I want to dress as a guy , present as a guy , be seen as a guy . In every way be acknowledged by myself and others as a guy . Some days I want to present super super feminine and be clocked as a woman - but I still prefer to be called they because I get dysphoria from “she”. Personally I say I fluctuate most between they and he - but I present super feminine , middle , and super masculine. It’s all just like a wibbly wobbly line of feeling differently . Sometimes my gender ( inside ) changes daily , hourly , weekly , or even monthly . It all depends really . I think I’d describe it as just feeling like a different gender . The main thing that causes me to switch presentation is dysphoria if I’m being honest . Some days I’ll be fine with b**bs, some days I’ll want to get them away as soon as I can with a binder . Some days I’ll wake up feeling more masculine , and want to put a binder on and it’ll all fit perfectly , but sometimes I’ll put a binder on without thinking and then feel SUPER uncomfortable. So I get dysphoria from both sides . I hope this helps! Gender fluidity is different for everyone but this is my experience ✨ I hope this helps!

But I asked my math teacher and she asked ‘Are your parents ok with this?’ And I was (and still am) closeted and haven’t told anyone in my family yet. And just recently for some reason when my friends were calling me by my birth name (I didn’t tell them yet) I just felt really uncomfortable and sick. Idkw though, but thank you for the video! It's wonderful that we are starting to have these discussions as a society and I enjoy reading about everyone's experiences. After having feelings and experiences that I couldn't explain for most of my life I decided that bigender is the term that best describes what's going on inside my head, and it is so freeing to be able to allow both aspects of my gender to be expressed. I wish that we were having these conversations twenty years ago. It is amazing how much more varied and vibrant the gender spectrum is than I even thought. It sucks that there are still so many people that still think in rigid terms based on appearance at birth. There is so much more going on, from chromosomes to epigenetics to brain development to psycology to social and cultural roles, that having empatatic conversations can only be healthy for all involved.

I realised I'm 11 months late to comment (and 11 years late to accept myself) but as a gendefluid person I wanted to share some of my experiences with my own identity. I fluctuate sometimes daily other times weekly. It's sometimes fluctuating from man to woman, woman to man, neither to either, neither to both and ya know, all the other variations of that. Sometimes I can go months without ever relating to the concept of being one or more of these. Sometimes it's just between both or neither, other times it's between neither and man or neither and woman. Sometimes it's just a mix of both for a long time. There are many ways for genderfluidity or gender fluctuations to manifest and they are also not necessarily linked with gender expression. Myself I prefer to be androgynous when I can and usually just tell people to use they/them pronouns because that always works for me. Just remember that you're still valid even if you only feel like a woman or feminine in rare situations. You're still valid even if you only feel like a man or masculine in rare situatuions. You're still valid even if there has been no shift in gender identity for a few days, weeks or even months. I feel like I had more to say but maybe that is really all that's needed to be said. I highly recommend people who is curious about it to look up "Loki Gendefluid Comic". That is what made me accept that this is what I relate to and it is accurate for me. Maybe it will help some of you out there. I hope it does.

Hi everyone!!! My name is Arlo, and I'm Non - Binary. Now I have had some struggle with gender. Now I know someone will see this thats needs this. Now I have come out to my parents. Now I love them how ever this has been a hard time for them I must admit. Now they keep using words like princess, or feminine terms. Now if you couldn't get from the contests. Yes I was born Female. But I have never really felt like that's been right. Now the other thing my parents do is say things like :Your probably just Non - Binary cause all your friends are changing their genders" Now as true as that is my friends are changing their genders, however I did not do this because I wanted to be in a group wit my friends. Now I do have some Enby friends now unlike them I never really when having to chose a bathroom had a struggle, because I knew very little about Enby's. But ever since I started to learn about that bathrooms have been a struggle. Now I am not out at school whatsoever but I am planning on coming out next year to some teachers. Now there is a few I will be telling this year. Now the meaning of this huge long paragraph is if you your child, or someone you know changes their pronouns to they/them use the pronouns. In my own home my parents don't and it hurts but there really is nothing I can do about it right now. But it is so emotionally draining to deal with. please I'm begging you don't use the wrong pronouns it hurts more then you could ever imagine. Now I know there might be some people who will say things like "oh well its not grammatically correct" or "it just doesn't make sense". Its okay to not understand, it's a hard thing for me to explain because well I don't fully understand it. I have just never really felt like a girl or a guy but non - binary felt right. An gender neutral terms felt nice. Now even if you are against it, just try to imagine going though you daily life being called a gander that's doesn't feel right, like trying to fit a square into a triangle. Its hard and its not just Enbys whos struggle with this. But end of my long talk. I hope this helps someone just remember be kind and just do the right thing.

I'm genderfluid and some tips on some knowledge that I've learned! Gendefluidity is very expressive, we are under the non - binary spectrum, but, not all use they/them pronouns, but it's easier than going "oh hey, I have she/her he/they today." So on and so on. This change, or fluctuation in gender can change over a few months, days, hours, or even years! My genderfluid folks like to Express themselves in attitudes, clothes, and even moods. Finding out you're genderfluid might feel easy, or difficult. It might seem like your indecisive, or maybe not. It is very confusing, but to figure ot out, you have to think "How often does this happen?" "Why does this happen?" And, "Am I comfortable with this?" Genderfluid folk are also different in so many ways, and everyone is valid, just remember, if you are confused on their gender identity, ask pronouns, instead of hinting or subtle asking. Just straight up ask. Remember, everyone is valid, and no one left behind! Love you all! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

I've been questioning my gender for a while, and today I finally decided to buy some male clothes (I'm a female) because I've always wanted to try it on and look more androgynous, you can find some androgynous looking clothes in a female section, but I just don't like how most of the female clothes have..curves and lines? and whenever I try to look androgynous by wearing some masc looking clothes from female section, people would go like "Oh those are cute!, You are looking cute!" which I don't want to hear But I don't have severe body dysphoria, just a bit of "oh wait...am I a girl?.." or "wait..that's weird" kinda thing some time to time. I'm genderfae, but I used to have male days, they kinda just stopped happening lol. Here's a little essay I used to explain my gender when I identified as fluid: I can often times tell what my current gender is (not always but often), because it just feels... right? I don't know how to explain it. The gender that feels right changes periodically though. For me, usually it changes three or four times a day, but it's small changes (like from 100% fem to 50% fem 50% enby). Bigger changes (100% fem to 50/50 masc/enby or even to 100% masc) usually happen once a day or so, sometimes twice, and sometimes my gender is relatively consistent for a few days. Certain factors make it change faster though, a major one being stress. When I'm anxious (like during an exam) I change my pronouns multiple times per hour, and in really extreme cases (election night being the only one so far) they change as often as every ten seconds which is really disorienting and gives me a lot of dysphoria. That's the best way I can explain it. Sorry if it's kinda confusing.

Hi, I'm genderfluid, and for me that means that my preference in pronouns changes, as well as how I present my appearance. Usually I go by he/they pronouns, but other people might prefer others. Genderfluid essentially just means you switch how you prefer to present, and can switch between genders. For some people it might be switching between preferred pronouns, or in the way you present. And genderfluid individuals may switch between any genders, for some people it may switch between male and female while for others it may switch between different non-binary identities. I don't know how useful this is but it's some stuff :P

As a gender fluid person, this can also mean that you feel particularly one gender most times and on occasion feel another gender. This is really helpful! I know a few people who do have "gender identities", so this helps a lot. It's nice to know the biological genders and the gender identities.

Is it normal to be scared to change from your base gender and just want to stay cause it’s a more socially safe place and you don’t absolutely hate your biological gender?

I read one time about an explanation of genderflux being this: Imagine there is a light switch that has a color wheel next to it and a dimmer switch. You flick on the light and choose a color or set of colors (aka genders) and then you can use the dimmer to dim or brighten those colors. Genderflux is kind of like that. Personally, sometimes I feel "vaguely female" but it doesn't roll into the male spectrum enough for me to identify as male. I only identify as female, nothing else, but there are a lot of times that I will wake up and want to dress like a tomboy because I'm only dimly feminine, whereas other days I put on makeup and a cute dress to indicate that I feel brightly female. Make sense?

learned a bit from this.. specifically that I'm technically trans! mtf, not biologically.. but expressing the feminine side of me that was previously just behavioral. Still I mostly don't feel like I'm attached to any gender.. and that works perfectly for the microlabel I use: *Librafeminine!* Mostly agender, but partially feminine. Similar to demi-girl.. but it's not mostly feminine + lesser part other gender(s) and instead mostly agender + lesser part other gender(s).. and I look somewhere between androgynous and feminine :3 For me it went: Male -> Transfem -> Agender -> Librafeminine And tbh I just feel amazing learning about makeup and such.. I feel a sense of welcomeness in the world of femininity which I never felt as a man... and I express myself in the ways I want.. which leads back to agender: I am not trying to be some specific gender .. I just want to be myself and experience life how I want!
