Getting snagged is to get caught in something, like catching your clothes on a branch. So a snag is a catch, or a trap. A snag is also a sausage.

I guess the snag part are the useless pieces (including pawns) in a narrow board, completely hindering the movements of the actual overpowered/annoying pieces. Pretty interesting actually.

This definitely got a laugh out of me, but to give Simp a serious answer, yes snag _is_ Australian slang for sausage, but that's not what it means in this context. A snag is "a problem or difficulty with something", which comes from the meaning of a snag as "a sharp part of an object which may catch, scratch, or tear objects brought into contact with it." To be caught in a snag is to be stuck on something sharp/dangerous and hard to get out of.

The thing that has a mace for a head is called Ferz and it's a Bishop that only moves 1 square. The thing that has a vase for a head is called Wazir and it's a Rook that only moves 1 square. Basically, Ferz + Wazir = King movement. They are diagonal and straight parts of a King.

if i know Simp's math correctly, he actually has 200% win rate in caught in a snag, because 1) he won the game, so 100% win rate + 2) he did not lose the game, so - (negative 100%) 100% - (-100%) = 200% winrate

It's the snag part ig. Snap means difficulty or trap as well. So the board may be intentionally made very narrow plus some useless pieces (pawns included) to hinder movement of the overpowered and annoying ones.

The checkmate was cool, the overpowered thing blocked long range escape squares because it acts like a knight as well. The grasshopper king could have jumped to h3 or f3 but both covered by the overpowered thing (or maybe the king's AI gf)

4 player and varients>presse the blue dice>you have popular, featured common and extra. Custom is another option to mix rulesets and make new postions.

"I cannot explain such a complicated concept (as how Chinese Chess Knights move)" The Knights (Horses) move two spaces horizontally and one space vertically (or respectively 2 spaces vertically and one space horizontally). If there is a piece next to the horse in the horizontal (vertical) direction, the horse is blocked and the move is not allowed. So, like a standard knight, except that if there's a piece right next to your knight in the direction you want to move 2 squares, you can't jump over it. It says nothing about if there's a piece in the "minor" (one square) direction ,however.

theirs only so many custom pieces so it would be useful to look at them all in the position editor (click any variant and hit edit position at the bottom) switching the piece theme to classic also makes it easier to differentiate pieces imo

Seems like it moves in any of the 8 directions, and its allowed to move until it reaches the first piece that blocks it, at which point it must jump over said piece (and it cannot move without jumping over a piece). This is why Simp's king checked the opponent's king, as the opponent's king is adjacent to the pawn that would've been jumped over, but the opponent's king cannot check back in that position, as this doesn't apply to Simp's king.

I cannot express how confused I am that your grasshopper king checked their grasshopper king. Like, it can move any number of squares as long as it jumps over the first piece?

Imagine that the grasshopper can move like a queen, except it can only move the maximum distance and will instead jump one square over the first piece it sees

Grasshopper king jumps over a piece and lands on the next square behind it. The black grasshopper king threatens to jump over the e2 pawn and attack d1, so the white grasshopper king jumps over the e2 pawn and lands on f3.

That's correct, the word just has multiple meanings depending on context. You can say: "I just snagged a new jacket" but it also means "to get stuck on something", as in: "My jacket got snagged on a tree branch" Or it can be used as a noun to describe anything that something is currently stuck on: "I pulled my jacket free of the snag"
