What's the deal with the book of Jubilees? Has it ever been part of Scripture? If you saw my chat with Sean Griffin on his KZfaq channel, you noticed he bases many of his theological positions on the book of Jubilees. And you also noticed that I was largely unfamiliar with that book! So Sean inspired me to do some learning, and it turns out the book of Jubilees is a rewritten version of Genesis 1 through Exodus 14, where the author sort of recasts the narrative and revises and makes additions to the biblical text. It was originally written around 200 years before Jesus, however, it has never been accepted as part of the Jewish Scriptures because it contradicts the Torah in many places. This is why it's never been accepted as Scripture in the Christian faith, either; not by Catholics or Protestants, or Eastern Orthodox traditions. So while it's an interesting and valuable historical book, it's never been considered Scripture. And therefore, basing our theology on the book of Jubilees is just asking for trouble.
