The only person I ever met from 'online' I ended up marrying. I wasn't even looking for a relationship at the time. We've been together for almost 20 years so far.

I hooked up with an online friend, who was friends with my bestfriend at the time, and I went to his place to chill and play videogames. We met through minecraft and the vibes were really good. I think he was only a year younger than me. When he picked me up I had told my dad and my friend that was leaving and got in his truck and left. Everything was fine I was feeling a little nervous cause I had never been on a date before. When I got to his place I felt very off. I just pushed it aside cause my nerves were a little shot. Maybe I was just nervous from the date. His dad was in the kitchen, chilling on his phone. I didn't think it was weird until maybe 10 to 15 minutes this man moved from the kitchen to the living room, planted himself in a chair and watched us. At that point I said fuck it and asked the dude in the nicest way possible to take me home. I knew he was upset but I didn't care. He took me home and we never spoke again. I moved away and then moved back months later and my bestfriend and her bf apologized to me for that incident. They found out that him and his dad were registered sex offenders. Thank God I trusted my gut.

I’m kind of glad now that I never met my ex online friend irl. Long story short, we ended up just having a toxic friendship. My feelings were hurt because they resented me for taking care of myself-that’s my side of it, anyway.

Met some of them. Not all of them. Nothing was too horrific on my end. What's the worst was having to leave with no trace. I got sick and I couldn't handle the graphics of MMOs anymore. Felt horrible but that very night I logged out, I uninstalled everything and just... it was done. I was just too sick to enjoy it anymore. My head hurt and everything felt horrible physically. I only had one guild member's contact and it got hacked. So one morning, woke up, and that was it. Spammy, scammy messages. That's when I knew I was never going to talk to them ever again. I cried. I spent a good portion of my teenage and young adult years on that thing. The few memories i have are fading. I won't remember my friends soon enough. I can't remember their usernames anymore, either.

I still haven't met mine. We met on AOL (yes I am this old) when i was 13 so 27 years of online friends only. seen pics and talked on the phone just life has never aligned for us to meet.

I had an online relationship with a woman from Germany and was going to college in New York City. When we met up, she broke down about how much she missed her late father. I pretty much just sat there awkwardly.

Not a horror story, but actually a good one. I am Canadian and I started talking to this Russian guy living in Estonia. He seemed like a really nice guy and we just talked on Discord. I never met him in person but I did do a video call and found out he didnt't lie about anything he was not a creep and actually a genuine nice guy and respected the fact thst I did not want to share any personal information online. He was completely cool with the fact that I could not meet up. He ended up just being a cool teenager the exact same age as I was at the time.

This is why I don't do friends. Life is much easier without them.

So weird for me cuz I find pretty much all my friends online and then try to meet them whenever possible. Never had a situation like this

Back in the days of rainbow six rouge spear i was a head of a sniper clan. Joined the clan early and worked my way up to general. Was in charge of tactics and ended up befriending another guy who held a similar role in our sister clan. He lived about an hour away so we decided to meet up at a local game store in his home town. He ended up being a 400lb neckbeard who was generally unpleasant to be around irl. We only met once but i kept seeing him online then suddenly he wasn't around. Well after a week members asked me if i could look into what happened to him. Well after a little digging he got busted trying to met a 13yr old and instead he was met by 6 sheriff deputies and was rotting in jail. Later He got convicted and ended up dying in prison. Needless to say that was insanely hard to report where he was and we instantly removed his bio and character from our website. I ended up quiting the game a little after mostly because it was starting to die off but eh after that i never met a online friend irl 😂

Ya last “friend” I met from online turned out to be a douche and thought he could touch me places I never gave consent for. Don’t want to get into the details but yeah. He pretended to be a good guy but is not.

I’ve got one for this. We were both into the same kinda music and bonded over that. She lived in my home state and I lived in Nevada at the time. Well, after a few months of talking my step brother ended up inviting me to come back to my home state with him so I was like “bet”. I was 19 at the time and was angsty and didn’t wanna live at home with my mom anymore. I get there and it turn out my step brother didn’t have a place of his own and was staying with a friend, friend said I couldn’t stay there so I hit up the girl I had been talking to and she was like “yeah you can come stay with me”. Turned out by “stay with her” she meant “stay at her friends trailer, without them knowing anything about it in advance”. Anyway, we ended up hooking up for a couple days and then some other dude came into the picture. She started treating me like shit, and not wanting me around and even told her friend whose trailer I was at t kick me out so she could be with this other dude. In the end she ended up stealing half of my belongings, caused me to almost end up homeless, and then spread rumors about me.

While Lockdown I startet plaiing COD Warzone more often and connected to some solo playing guys via Facebook. In the summer we wanted to meet and have a weekend together. It went so well we met all over the countrys when someone was near someone other. (germany and Austria)Pretty cool every year we meet now one Weekend and I´m ivited to the wedding of one of the guys. Sorry for my bad english writing not my 1st language 😅

Never meet anyone from your online life, not without going through the proper channels first. Do the right thing and have the "meeting" in a safe, controlled environment with many people in viewing distance. Also, keep the local police on speed dial. Still though, it's really stupid to meet with someone online as that's so dangerous, especially for minors.

Ugh @ the last story... I do not know what goes through these guys' heads when they convince themselves that they can "change your mind" and then get angry at YOU because surprise, surprise, you want to stay with your loving fiance and not some stranger you met playing online games. Like, I get desperation can push you to extremes, but that's just delusion - and somehow we're the ones being cruel because he spent so much money on his fantasy despite every warning not to. -_- I...may have a little experience with this. Even showing the guy my god damn engagement photos didn't convince him he didn't have a shot.

Was not the first time I met him in person but he was a friend of a friend that whould hang out with the group. Well I was traveling from So Cal to Arkansas for a over the road trucking job and he lived in the Texas panhandle so I was hay how about I hang for a few hours and crash at your place. Well I found out him and his boyfriend where bad druggies and their place was an out right pig sty with drug stuff all over the place. Well I was dead tired as i had been driving for over 24 hours at that point and ended up crashing there. The moment I woke up I took off and I have never talked with him again.

I'm sure no one would believe it, but some I met should've never happened.. Though was good to meet someone through them that was waaay better than them. Spoke with someone for years and thought they were decent when meeting. Later I moved in, then they moved in some random I never knew about. Slowly and slowly it was just me doing everything like working to pay bills and another idiot had the excuse of "disabilities this, and that" I'm thinking if you had all these problems from your last job why did you not actually go to a doctor and do something about it? (He still tries to get with SS and only went to the doctor once and thinks if he keeps appealing it'll magically be approved) I moved away and moved in with another friend that I met through them. He was actually a functioning adult. But I'm an idiot, and I kept chatting with these old friends. I should've blocked the one a long time ago, but I was wanting to get info from another former roommate during that time. Which I should've never done, as at one point he wanted to borrow money and made a fake "invoice" from a vet that was not the actual amount... They kept acting like they're struggling, and I should help them out. I worked over the road and almost every other week they had some "emergency" or something and I need to get home. I get there, and find there's nothing happening. They have dogs and they barely do anything to take care of them. Roommate A sits on his ass everyday and Roommate B does the same. I'm the only guy that pays for everything. One says he's working with maintenance, but its like he's working for free. Every week I hear "Hope you know I'm trying." Me thinking "Trying what?" I'm always using their car for jobs and I don't have my own. It's almost like I'm stuck here and they ensured to try anything to keep me here while also saying I do nothing here and I always raise up bills. While they stay at home forever. I was once told "You'll get this car after I'm done with this lawsuit" It was because there was road work on our street and they scratched the grass, and one roommate blames the tow guy for screwing the vehicle up. Yet, he has not done anything like taking pictures for evidence, not even mentioning what law firm he's talking to. I can see the "I haven't talked to anyone" face when I mention to him what he should do. Because it's all BS. They are horrible at caring for dogs. I thought I would bring over a dog from someone I know because he needed someone to care for him because of something he's going through. That was a BIG mistake. They kept them in a locked room and claimed they messed up the floor and always used the bathroom inside.... I was over the road during that time. Now I work as a contractor using their shitty cars because Roommate A thinks loud cars are cool. (Actually, he claims I wanted it to sound like that. It's somehow my idea for every idiotic thing he does.) One looks like its a drug dealer's vehicle. Sorry if most of the story seems all over the place. It's just way more than this and I know I got into this myself and I should just leave. But that's impossible when only one person works and has to pay other people's bills and I can't even pay my own credit card bill. Plus don't even have my own car. Which they made sure I won't have. Because they know I'll leave the moment I had the chance.
