If you've ever wondered which Ghostface killed who in Scream 2 (1997), between Mickey and Mrs. Loomis, this video will offer a comprehensive deconstruction of the movie to provide all the clues left behind by the brilliant Wes Craven, and tell you which killer was behind the ghostface mask in each scene.

What is up Scream team! You guys really enjoyed the first video we did for which killer was who in the original Scream, so as promised here is the same thing all over again for the sequel.
As always, I want to point out that this video is based on my own personal opinions, and nothing here is meant to be 100% factual. Having said that, Wes Craven (the brilliant horror director that he was) followed up the first Scream movie employing a similar laser sharp focus when it came to tiny little details. And I do believe that he lays out more than enough clues for keen observers to uncover the truth, including the mystery of the left handed killer and pivotal information that was left out in deleted scenes. This will give you the Scream 2 ending explained, to understand how the killers ended up setting the literal stage for the film's climax, and what happened with their Woodsboro Murders copycat motive that was seemingly abandoned half way through.
Fortunately when it comes to what you missed in Scream 2, I've done all of the work for you so you don't have to (thanks to my unhealthy obsession with the Scream franchise). So despite their identities being hidden by the ghostface mask, we can now know (at least to my findings) in which scenes the killer was Mrs. Loomis (Laurie Metcalf) and Mickey Altieri (Timothy Olyphant), which one of them made the phone calls, and who had the highest kill count.
If you have your own evidence you would like to provide that either corroborates, or negates my findings, I am more than happy to have you comment them down below.

The theory that Mrs. Loomis focused primarily on Gale and Mickey focused primarily on Sidney makes sense for the reasons you stated.

I need someone to explain this to me. As Zach said in the video “since this one isn’t holding a phone this is out first clue that there’s more than 1 killer in this movie” so yes that gave us a clue there was more than 1 killer. So as cici’s friend says “don’t forget to set the alarm” right before she left. Then cici said “hello Ted” and the killer on the phone replied “you wish it was ted, don’t forget to set the alarm” how did the killer on the phone knew what cici’s friend say if the caller was outside? And Mickey is definitely the one who ran into the house, so how did mrs loomis knew that cici’s friend said to her “don’t forget to set the alarm”? It just doesn’t make sense to me, or I can just be stupid.

@@LastDebt555 He said in the video that Mrs. Loomis was probably standing outside within earshot of the door/window. So they both probably heard her say that as her friend was getting ready to leave.

I know this is a minority opinion, but I actually love the cafeteria scene. I love how sincere Derek is in it, and the fact is that that scene proves that Derek was such a good guy, there was no chance he was the killer. Yeah, I know in the original script that Derek was one of the killers, but the fact he was willing to publicly humiliate himself to show his love for Sidney proved he was the opposite of Billy in every way. Billy was always trying to pressure Sidney into sleeping with him, their relationship was selfish, whereas Derek was selfless. It made Mickey's manipulation of Sid into thinking Derek was his partner all the more heartbreaking.

I think Micky told Ms.Loomis how to get under Randy's skin with her line right before she kills him "You'll never get the girl". At the end of the film class scene Randy tells the whole class, including Micky, that if he made a movie the nerd would get the girl. Just a possibility.

It naturally make sense for Mickey to be the killer in most of the scenes as he was doing it for the thrill andn the fame where is mrs. Loomis just wanted revenge and the targets for her were the original survivors.

Most people failed to notice that the killer mostly kills with his left hand, and which character is left-handed? Mickey. He did most of the killings, and Mrs. Loomis only killed Randy.

Billy’s mom was just as crazy as he was, like Sydney said. Instead of being horrified that her own son was a serial killer, she totally condoned and enabled what he did by “getting revenge” on the survivors and victims - who had no choice but to fight for their lives! This is yet again another AMAZING video, by the way man! You’re so clever and a true mystery solver! You’d be great in the writing industry! I can’t get enough of your phenomenal analyzations! Is there anyone in existence who doesn’t think that the Gale chase scene in Scream 2 isn’t the absolute best in the franchise. We need more extended chase scenes like that. Scream 4 could have done this in the barn scene when Gale gets stabbed - had her run out the barn and be chased through the tall grass or something...

I think one thing that makes that scene so chilling is that it happens RIGHT AFTER we see Dewey get the glass painted with his blood. That scene is just flooded with hopelessness and dread.

It also helps that it is then immediately followed by an equally tense and brilliant scene in the car crash and Sidney climbing over unconscious ghostface. The final 45 minutes or so of Scream 2 is, for me, the peak of the series.

fun fact: did you know Matthew Lillard was actually on set on scream 2 he actually showed up on scream 2 to see old cast members then Wes craven gave him a background role as one of the party members when Sidney goes to the sorority house for the party and randy gives Sid and her Friends cocktails you can see Matthew in the background and saying "hey man" he has blonde hair. And this could be a hint that Wes craven is saying that Stu is still alive

It makes sense that Mickey was behind the mask most of the time. In one of the very early drafts I read that had Derek and Hallie as killers, it was revealed that she, while not necessarily being a killer, financed the two of them. So her role was primarily as the producer of this whole thing.

I agree with everything except with one thing. The Ghostface at the rehearsal of Cassandra I don't think it was either Mickey or Mrs. Loomis. It was too public and dangerous. I am pretty sure it was some PTSD hallucination by Sydney. Wouldn't be far fetched, seeing how in Scream 3 she has delusions and hallucinations.

There's still one thing left unanswered tho... During the phone call scene of Casey Cooper she hears a noise upstairs. She goes to look and then hears another loud noise up there which scares her to run outside the front door.. Now if Mickey and Mrs Loomis are outside then who was upstairs? It can't have been her friend as she came out of a downstairs room and there can't be anyone left upstairs as Heck when CI CI is being chased up there she's screaming and throwing stuff at ghostface making a lot of noise but nobody comes out to look. My theory is that Mickey climbed up through a top window under Mrs Loomis orders and and made the noise to scare her into opening the front door possibly and then Mrs Loomis comes through the front door and chased her upstairs towards Mickey who is waiting somewhere at the top of the stairs. I noticed when CICI was running up the stairs the killer was right behind her yet when she gets to the top and runs down the hall way the killer is a lot further behind so I'm assuming Mrs Loomis got to the top of the stairs and signalled Mickey to finish her off as one CI CI is not on her list of people to kill and two Mickey is a lot stronger too

Dude you are 100% right about Mrs. Loomis changing her gun hand to her left hand. Regardless of if in some people's head it wouldn't matter in terms of using a gun. But it ABSOLUTELY would make a difference when doing forensics because when studying the trajectory of the bullet it would be impossible to be right handed. So yeah, they did a really good job of making it intentional on the use of the left hand in this movie. I don't think most people honestly noticed though sadly...

i was watching some clips of the first three movies earlier. i got to the scene from 3 where Randy’s sister showed them the tape of him explaining the rules of a trilogy. something Martha said got me thinking. the way she greeted them makes me think her family has gotten really close with Dewey. she didn’t recognize Sidney after not seeing her for years. i have a theory that Dewey partly blames himself for Randy’s death, and visits his family often because he feels bad. hopefully this can be revealed as canon in the new movie. i think it would add to Dewey’s character.

@@user.7710 I believe it was randy whi referred to Dewey in the second movie as his and syd's "surrogate big brother" due to his sister Tatums death in the first movie. It could be that Dewey couldn't stand the thought of losing another sibling and began subconsciously leaning on his family to share the pain

Cici's killer was Ms loomis and Sidney's first attack is also Ms loomis. Mickey would not risk going back the the house and ms loomis has a better chance at attacking her and a reason why Ms loomis killed cici is because after swiping her knife, blood still remains and the knife in Sidney's attack that was stuck in the door also has blood so it's just a clear giveaway that Cici's and Sidney's attackers are by Ms loomis and simply just hearing her women grunts

It is possible that one (or both, though highly unlikely) of the killers were ambidextrous. Also it was totally Mrs. Loomis who killed Randy, and that was not entirely planned because of the abruptness of Randy's taunts at Billy. I'm not sure if they had planned on killing anyone in that phone call because they were all grouped together in the park in broad daylight with many people around, so it seems unlikely they planned to separate the group and go after one random person, not knowing who would be left alone. That would be Jigsaw level pre-planning :3 I believe this caused a rift in their original copycat plan and it wasn't planned to be deviated from. Mickey was faking being knocked out in the car to set up Hallie's death, knowing Sidney would leave first. He could have attacked her in the car when Hallie was climbing over, allowing Sidney to escape in fear, but he held back knowing they would either run away and allow him a quick getaway or he could protect himself by attacking whoever tried to unmask him prematurely. He didn't have to climb over a wall, he could have ran around the side of the pallets; the killers have been totally known to be uber fast. I really believe that Mickey did 98% of the killings and Mrs. Loomis really only killed Randy out of sudden anger; Mickey wanted the fame for the killings knowing that everything would lead back to him and no one would suspect a second killer, and Mrs. Loomis gets away clean having covered her tracks after having killed who she intended to kill and framing Mickey for EVERYTHING after having killed him and set him up.

I recently watched a video that explains that Mickey actually continued the copycat idea he started. The two officers that watched Sidney represent Principal Himbry, with them being a male figure that tries to protect Sidney in some way. Hallie represents Tatum by being Sid's best friend. Kind of blew my mind when I heard it because it makes sense.

Ghostface pairs are split into two roles: the mastermind and the brute. The mastermind handles the phone calls and generally plans out the killings. The brute does the majority of the heavy lifting in the killings. Typically, the roles have different motives and the mastermind often betrays the brute.

When Mickey puts a bullet through Derek's heart it is the second most cold blooded kill in the series. He was tied up. Helpless. And he just executed him. The only thing worse is in 4 when Jill castrated Trevor and then finished him off with the bullet to the head. That takes the prize!

Wow, great job, Zack! I'm 100% sold on this whole theory! Mrs.Loomis may only have commited one murder, but she managed to be smart and competent enough to make sure Mickey would be blamed for it as well and she would get away with all of it. Must be quite hard for a female to murder a male with her "wrong" hand!

Amazing video! Mickey is my favourite killer of all the movies even though he was underused for a lot of the movie. The Timothy Olyphant idea outside the theatre would have been soooo good. As for how Mr’s Loomis got from the projection to behind Gale within 20 seconds with no noise is that the movie pays tribute to the cinematographic suspense and unrealistic superiority of the killer. Basically explains Hallie’s death as well. I quoted that from an article which is quite known for its sexist view on who killed who, basically giving it all to Mickey... I’m only saying where it’s from because last time I mentioned it in a debate on Instagram on who killed who with a person I quoted it and they recognised it from that article and blasted me for being a sexist. Anyway can’t wait for scream 4’s!

i thought it would have been perfect for the cameraman to be the killer. they set it up right from the start by saying blacks are under represented in horror movies then later dewie says serial killers are white males. Also when gale and dewie are looking at the footage made by the killer they could have made it so the camera man used gales camera to stalk the victims which explains why the footage is with all of gales other footage

I always assumed it was Mrs. Loomis in the bathroom killing Phil. I remember renting this on VHS when it first came out, and the closed captioning specifically showed the killer saying the word "mommy." But, you're reasoning on why the bulk of the murders were done by Mickey makes the most sense. Something else that you didn't touch on. Mickey could have stooged off to Derek's frat bros about him giving Sid his letters, and encouraging them to string him up in the auditorium to help him set up his big reveal.

You can definitely tell it was Mrs. Loomis who covered the attack on Dewey and Gale. Mickey might have been up there in the projector room, but that’s definitely Loomis trying to jump Gale. There’s a desperation in Ghostface’s lunges; jumping with both hands down, angrily flailing when Gale blocks the door, and hurling objects in an attempt to break the window. Mrs. Loomis eventually learned she had to lure Gale as Debbie Salt, which was why she said “Two birds, one stone” when Mickey shoots her. It was never her plan to have Gale in the theater. She was meant to die with Dewey.

I think Mickey started out wanting to kill people with similar names to the Woodsboro victims but after he killed Cici Mrs Loomis probably convinced him that he could top Billy and Stu's murders by killing Sidney, Dewey, Gale and Randy. Obviously Loomis ended up killing Randy herself after he insulted Billy.

Amazing analysis Zack. I'm in the camp that anything to do with attacks on Sidney or Gale were Mrs. Loomis, as she only wanted revenge on those two. Like the attack in the sorority house, was Mrs Loomis because the Ghosface seemed slightly shorter and a tad clumsy due to being overzelous. Randy's attack and murder still annoy me greatly as he was the best character of the franchise, as I saw myself in him. As for the fact about Mrs Loomis' name being Nancy, I never knew that. I always just presumed it was Debbie as Mickey says: "tuition's expensive. Deb there, was my backer" or something along those lines. Can't wait for Scream 4 EDIT: And with Phil hearing a feminine voice, in the bathroom, I've come to the conclusion that both are in that stall. Mrs Loomis crouched out of sight or on the seat while Mickey's in front of her. And after Mickey steals Phil's jacket, she goes out to the car to be the get away driver

I believe it was Mickey who attacked Sidney at the party. He commented on how Derek shouldn't have tried to play hero. Plus, Mickey was into the horror films and sequels. Mickey also killed the detectives and Hallie and attacked Sidney as indicated by his scar from the car crash. Mra. Loomis was into straight up revenge on Sidney. When she shot Mickey, she even commented she was into that stuff and called Mickey insane for it. No, I think she only killed Randy.

Mrs. Loomis definitely killed Randy because when Gale, Dewey, and the cameraman find his body in the van, you can see a lipstick kiss mark left on Randy's hand! It's a really quick scene and the lipstick blends in with the blood, so I never noticed until my rewatch this past halloween.

Me and my younger sister used to break down who was the killer in each scene all the time when we watched these movies together. You made very strong/great points that I didn’t necessarily catch onto when I was a bit younger, but I really loved this! It couldn’t have been broken down better. Zach: Great vid as always. And as always lately you've put new thoughts in my head in a couple areas but mostly we're on the exact same wavelength! 1. I never thought about Mickey maybe IN PERSON giving Phil the tickets. I always figured I knew they were likely a set up but I just thought somehow he had them mailed out. 2. I've always figured it was both Mickey and Mrs. Loomis in the bathroom because You notice the definite height difference plus I've always noticed the shorter Ghostface didn't really turn around THAT much when Phil entered the bathroom because she didn't want him to notice she DEFINITELY wasn't peeing. Plus Mickey wouldn't have pissed at the urinal next to someone else then ran into the stall and stab Phil. And I always figured it Was Mrs. Loomis that whispered the Mommy line to lure Phil because well, its clearly more than likely a woman's voice plus its a nod/hint on rewatches that its the mother & Mrs. Loomis is like when Mrs. Vorhees does Jason's voice and goes "Mommy". 3. Mickey obviously killed both Phil & Maureen for the reasons you had. 4. Cici: yes: Mrs. Loomis is the caller. I've always said on rewatches that there's some arguments that maybe, MAYBE Mrs. Loomis could have done this one although I'm 95% sure its Mickey too. If you look, the killer struggles a bit picking her up (like you said SMG/Buffy ain't no weakling so maybe even Mickey would struggle some). And I always feel I see some slight hesitation in the stabs as if the killer is trying to be precisely accurate with the stabs using the left hand when they're "NOT" left-handed. Plus her friend on the phone taunts her with the "Kill, kill, kill, kill, mom, mom, mommy" so maybe that's another nod/hint. Again Mostly positive it was Mickey; those are just my thoughts even though those who really pay attention know as you said Mrs. Loomis didn't WANT to kill anyone outside of Sid and Gale so killing anyone else would have been dumb. 5. Mrs. Loomis called Sid; it was personal with the "remember me". I've always thought it was her attacking her too because the killer looks short and is clumsy (given that its a chase scene). Sid is string, don't get me wrong, but she easily dodges Ghostface. Mickey I think could have done a better job looking competent. Ghosface just looks eratic. 6. Observation: Yes: I think Mrs. Loomis made all the calls too and here's something that just popped in my head as a small nod to it: She's a mid-40s woman; likely doesn't like/know scary movies and although a lot of it may be due to all the changes they had to make, the phone calls made no movie references (Randy aside). 7.I agree on everything else: Mrs. Loomis killed Randy (bitch lol) that was her in the university film rooms and Mickey obviously tailed Sidney. Great one again!

Awesome analysis. Especialy with the Randy's death, and Loomis switching the hand to left one, to lead the cops to Mickey. I really do hope that was Craven's and Williamson's attention to the details :) About Mickey throwing the paper ball, or holding camera with his right hand. It is possibile. My wife is left handed, but she does many, many things with her right hand. I guess it is a common thing in the world designed mainly by right handed for right handed :D Left handed people naturaly learn to use their right hand as well. But it could be a lack of attention while doing the reshot. Cheers man, and thanks for the video, it's great.

Sidney knew Mrs Loomis at the end, even though it took a minute to register, with her new look and weight loss. But how did she roam around campus for weeks seemingly without running into Sidney somewhere. Also, you would think Gail, having written the book on the first set of murders, as she says, would have at least seen a photo of, or interviewed Mrs. Loomis at some point.

I think the explanation for this is detailed by mrs loomis in the final scene(s). She outright admits losing weight and having plastic surgery and calling it a "Makeover." Yes, I think it's plausible that Gail could have recognized her even after the physical changes, but when was the last time she had looked at a photo of Mrs. Loomis? Probably quite a while and by all accounts she had never met Mrs. Loomis in person since Mrs. Loomis is disappeared and gone before the events in SCREAM even happen. So while she may seem familiar, she had also never been around her in person, and that would affect your perception of someone or ability to firmly recognize them. Sidney on the other hand, yes she had been around Mrs. Loomis and her family a lot previously and would have made the connection at some point if she had ever been in close proximity with her throughout the film. But she wasn't and that was was by design since Randy could have recognized her as well if the opportunity had presented itself. I'd have to watch the movie again, but I think there might be two scene(s) where Mrs. Loomis ( not as ghostface) and Sidney and/or Randy would have been even near each other is the press conference with the police where Gail and Debbie Salt are asking questions. But all of the college cast I believe are taking it in from a couple hundred yards away where you wouldn't be paying attention to who's in the crowd and even if you were, it'd be hard to recognize someone you haven't seen in years from that far away who's undergone major physical changes. There's also the attempted murder of Sidney at the Kappa house, but maybe Sidney is already off to the hospital with Derek and crew before Debbie Salt "arrives".

I agree with your list that all victims were killed by Mickey except Randy (who was killed by Mrs Loomis). Except one thing: Sidney's first attack after Cici's murder was Mrs Loomis in terms of both the caller and attacker. Notice the killer in that scene looks significantly shorter and smaller than the one who killed Phil, Maureen, and Cici. Plus is more clumsy as he/she easily falls over a chair, as seen in the final act when Mrs Loomis was chasing Sidney around and tripping over easily at times. If it had been Mickey, he would have given himself away as he was with Randy and Hallie and the time and they would've gotten suspicious if Mickey disappeared out of nowhere. Not to mention if it were Mickey behind the mask, he wouldn't have hesitated to kill Derek when running into him.

Well to be honest. The original stunt guy that was Ghostface in the first film, part 2, and part 4 didn't film the kill of Cici. It was stuntman Chris Durand who also was Michael Myers in Halloween: H20. He stood in that day for that scene in place of the original guy who is in the costume for the rest of the movie.

There is one evidence why the killer in the sorority and the lamba house is the same killer, Just notice the bloody knife after cici's death and when the knife got hit on the door. This is a great giveaway that the killer who killed Cici is Ms Loomis 100% if you believe that Sidney's attacker in the house is Ms loomis

10:50 Awww, that would be so sweet if it weren't for the fact that anywhere between 1-2 of those people were the killer at different points in the movie. 11:08 Thank you for showing that bit! That's honestly one of my favorite scenes in the whole series because of the question of whether Sidney's actually seeing Ghostface or not. Obviously with rewatches, we're able to see Ghostface clearly running away but in the moment, its easy to side with the actors and think Sidney's losing it (seriously, Mickey might not be the most well-liked killer, but I think he's one of the best when it came to screwing with Sidney's head).

Love the Meta aproach of the Scream series, particularly with this movie, the fact that they are always talking about it, for example when figuring out sequels better than the original and in the end when Cotton Weary says it would make for an incredible movie. Thats like Community level meta

Love these videos. Also, I'm in the boat that Mrs. Loomis didn't plan on killing Randy. I do think the plan was to kill Gale there, and Randy bashing Billy is what caused her to kill Randy. She mentioned it(like you stated) at the end and I feel that was full admission that she just lost her cool.
