It will take more than a few years to get rid of cars from any capital, most of western society is addicted to car ownership and car owners are 97% of the voters

@@Fastfitnesstips I can't see a way of getting rid off all traffic. Busses and trucks. I'd like to see a cyclist pull 50 tons. City centers have shops, shops need goods. Goods that come by truck. Because they weigh so much and take space. What happened to free choice? More or less forced to cycle. What if the London mayor said everyone should walk around with a trolley. As eco-friendly as a bike. You can carry more stuff in it. I love cycling. I don't love people getting forced to cycle. The next mayor can decide cycling is bad for the environment (materials and plastics come from somewhere and those have to be refined and transported somehow) and put a bounty on every cyclists head. Lessen the car-traffic, yes. The Netherlands is a great example. They didn't force anyone to do anything, did they?

@@MrPunkassfuck Actually nearly all city centres have long been car free. If you live there you can drive in when you're moving out I think. That's in Arnhem though, before 9am on week days I think. People never really do so from what I can tell. Cars can be parked in an underground car park network around the city centre. Anyhow, the trucks that supply the shops also come early in the morning. In the afternoon the centre fills up with people. Even cycling is not allowed actually, you just walk around. Slightly outside of the centre there are strict regulations around vehicle emissions ect. Most busses are trolleybuses, so those don't emit anything locally and can be made to emit nothing without modification. If you wanna get your groceries, the shop is at 5-10 minutes walking distance. No you probably can't ban all vehicles from the centre today. I don't think that keeping them around is wise either, and they're certainly not all necessary.
