@@ilremorto4387 Exactly. Fast growing economy doesn't mean wealthy country. China has had one of the fastest growing economies for nearly 40 years. It was poor until very recently, and is still considered a developing country. The only reason for the size of the economy is the sheer amount of people. In 20 years time when the one child policy comes home to roost, it is game over. Rwanda will be poor still for decades. But it is on the right path economically. I'll reserve judgement on the politics, as it could be a lot worse, as recent history shows.

Just take East Africa Rwanda has the 2nd lowest GDP Per Capita just above Burundi, Even South Sudan is above Rwanda, its a low income economy ranked as Low Human Development by HDI

The Maldives is the most obvious example of tourism benefiting people. I went and stayed in the capital rather than on one of the tiny expensive islands. Deliberately to see how it benefits the people. Given it is literally the only way to earn foreign currency for the nation. Gambia is similar, but at least has wildlife and mangrove swamps. Rwanda just hasn't got the wildlife, otherwise it would have the tourists of Botswana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

The gorillas are actually key to their tourism industry and a significant amount of the very large amount of money you pay (£750 when I went in 2014, more than £2000 per person now) to go on a gorilla trek goes straight to local infrastructure.

All fans of other English clubs also get exposed to Rwanda and Rwanda ads whenever their teams play Arsenal home now add France's PSG. Today Rwanda is exposed to millions of people worldwide, those who watch football news, shows, those who buy or sell kits, and more, all major TV advertise Rwanda unknowingly. Had Rwanda used the old approach of dealing with TV ads, they would have paid just the same or bigger amount for a few minutes of airtime on one station. Today stations from around the world that covers Arseanal or EPL activities advertise Rwanda with no choice. Rwanda has a thriving Airline, the world's first nationalwide delivering drones started in Rwanda and the company is now worth $ billions. Yes Rwanda receives aid but it had made sure that aid is used separately to pre designed projects outside national budget hence aid does not collide with their daily lives and decision including their foreign policy. Rwanda slapped Germany, UK and France many times when they try to meddle in their politics expelling their ambassadors on many occasions until the later would change their minds. In 2018, Rwanda and the U.S. fell out in a trade war making Rwanda joining other countries like China, Canada and Europe in Trump trade war. Rwanda is a country coming from far, but it is moving at a fast speed, UN's HDI report reported that Rwanda was the world's fastest developing country in Human Development since 1990s followed by China. All the above and more don't just fall from heaven, especially to a small landlocked Poor african nation with limited resources and population of 12 million people coming from the world's worst genocide.

But in a situation like Rwanda was in following the Civil War/Genocide, etc, and given what his leadership was able to accomplish for the country from that point forward, an authoritarian streak can and probably should be overlooked.
