Most men die before women do in the United States. American women lived on to 79 years old on average in 2021, compared to men, who only live until about 73 years old, according to CDC data. The U.S. has the highest rate of avoidable deaths, which is measured as death before the age of 75, among men than any comparable country. The life expectancy gender gap can have serious implications for society as a whole.
But there hasn't always been such a large gap between men and women. What became known as "the female advantage" emerged around 1890 and continued to grow throughout the 20th century, except for a decline during the 1918 flu pandemic. This change over time suggests to researchers that there could be an environmental component to life expectancy. That means there are some steps we can take to work toward helping men live longer.
"Everybody, men as well as women, benefit from a suite of particular behaviors," Karraker said. "A healthy diet, getting physical activity, not smoking, no-to-moderate alcohol consumption, maintaining deep, supportive social relationships. These are things that benefit everybody, including men."
Watch the video above to learn why men don’t live as long as women and what we can do about it.

The big problem is that we are still thinking like people of the 19th century. Enough of Marxism and capitalism. They have also deceived us with that of "democracy", which is not the power of the people, but of politicians, companies, churches, etc. We need a radical change, like the Resource-Based Economy, like the one proposed by Jacque Fresco. There are no politicians in an EBR society, there are public administrators who are experts in what they do. They have studied administration, various engineering, mathematics, sociology, psychology, medicine, other sciences, etc., but none of them have studied political science or that thing that they now call economics and pretend it is a science, nothing could be further from the truth.

having kids is definitely taxing women's income and career and hence men, also the lower pay for women on avg also indirectly affect men. thats the main reason why women are gonna choose child free, career oriented life. that way men dont need to live longer just for the sake of supporting women. childfree is the future ironically.

I've already made it to the median age for men (73) in the U.S. and I will continue with all the right behavioral items including diet, lifestyle and annual medical checkups, etc. After that it all comes down to genes and luck. I made it past all the dangerous stuff in my youth including motorcycle racing, hanggliding, and remote solo travel in the wilds via backpack, paddling and bicycle. My next goal is 82 the median life expectancy after age 65. I think only working 20 years of my adult life helped a lot keeping things stress free.

Why don’t they talk about the fact that the US federal government has an Office for Women’s Health but no parallel (or any) office for men’s health? I am over 70 and have struggled much during my life to find good information and medical expertise on men’s health. When I go to almost any clinic I see posters and brochures about women’s health and usually nothing specifically about men’s health. The emphasis on women’s health by government and non-profit health organizations has been very strong sing the 1980s. It’s time for them to turn SOME attention to men’s health. The US government needs to establish an Office for Men’s Health, if for no other reason than for women-as this video shows. It’s a women’s issue as well as a men’s issue.

Yes. They didn't provide solutions on how to "fix it" but made it all about the impacts on women. We need support services for domestic violence and suicides. We need to fix the education system that is biased towards female learning. Boys are losing out on vital education; a job is essential to a man. More funding on cancer research and health-related issues for men. Women get the lion's share of funding even though men are the majority of the taxpayer. Flexible arrangements for GP visits, more men work full-time jobs, and no time for doctor visits during the workday. Support for homeless men that outnumber women. They forgot to mention work fatality deaths that are the majority of men. Somebody has to do these dirty and dangerous jobs; I don't see female quotas in these areas. Make divorce and family court fair. Men commit suicide when wrongfully accused and lose their assets and family. Finally, respect men for their contributions and stop this toxic masculinity rubbish; it affects their emotional well-being. Men are human beings, too, not just human doings. There. Some solutions. Was that so difficult gynocentric CNBC?

Truth is absolutely nobody cares in our society in the US why Men die younger than Women unless you have money, a partner or children that truly care for you. My dad is 87 and if it was not for his children and wife, he would probably have died at his 60s if he were by himself given his ailments, cost of health insurance, medicines not to mention dementia. Being a middle age guy today with no children, I realize I will die younger than my dad. I am ok with that. If I had the ailmnets my dad have or come to develop them by no means I want to live any longer. There is absolutely no good public program devoted to the well being of elderly people especially Men.

Much of the time when doing things in a group, the other participants are mostly women. In my own life, I have seen men not taking care of themselves as well, when there is no woman in their life, as when there is someone. My husband is a Type II Diabetic who had never had heart or stroke issues. His identical twin began as a Type II, but is now on insulin and has had two strokes and a heart attack over the past few years. He doesn't have a wife around to make sure he takes his meds, goes to the doctor, etc. Meanwhile, I've had to hand my husband his pills when he's often forgotten (really, avoided) taking them. I've been the one to make sure he sees a doctor at the slightest sign of any possible issues, and I make sure he wears his mouthpiece for his Sleep Apnea (mostly because he snores so loudly without it). It does fall under the umbrella of "men don't seek out health care" mentioned here, but I think it does factor in when a partner is there to push for men to seek out care.

Why is there no mention of the court system in favor of women impacting male life expectancy? If a man has to financially support two households, the stress is going to have an impact on him. Whether it manifests itself in alcoholism, suicide, or other forms of stress/depression, it is a factor for his livelihood. And the most stressful part is that he can be forced into that situation even though he did nothing wrong (ie the woman is unfaithful).

I remember a study that was sponsored by Congress in the 1970s on the conditions that affect the health and longevity of seniors. The report had identified that the most important factors are a positive attitude and a good self esteem. A positive attitude is a good help to manage the stress.

I understand if you didn't catch what they mentioned cuz they covered it pretty briefly, but something they touched on was that women have for a lot of history been conditioned to be caregivers, which causes gaps in their careers (women are usually forced to disproportionately take care of children, their husbands, and elderly parents or sick family members). Since women are usually made to fill these roles cuz socially it's not usually as expected for men to take them up, they usually have gaps in their career history, which is less put towards a company-offered 401k and the like. Women also typically receive lower pay for the same comparative jobs that men receive, are less likely to be taken seriously for promotions, benefits, etc. Most of this just stems from subconscious bias due to long standing cultural norms (like how women were not really allowed to have a job until WWII, and when the war ended a ton of women were fired so men could take their jobs instead). Women are usually expected from a very young age to focus on the needs of others and put then above their own. There's sort of a morality put on acts of service, culturally, for women. It's not something enforced out of deliberate command in present day, but more cultural habits that have lingered through the years from history. There's a lot of expectations on women to take care of their husbands in similar ways that they have to take care of their kids, or a sick elderly parent and so on. I expect things might change in the future, but a lot of the elderly men alive today are products of the past cultural norms where gender roles were enforced in an ever stronger way. This kind of outdated mentality is the same sorts of attitude that has old men not taking their medicine unless their wives "nag" them, or engaging in unhealthy habits unless their wives scold them and so on. The past gender roles created an environment where wives basically had to be a different form of parent to their husbands. Some of this is men not learning a lot of important life skills needed to take care of oneself because they didn't need to: a woman was always there to do things for them. Since it's more common now for people to go out to college, live on their own, move out, etc, I think life skills are a bit more equal among the sexes than they have been for a lot of history. A lot of the things you probably do normally each day, a man in the 50s would never do. You likely know how to cook yourself a meal, wash your own clothes, etc, but in the past men just didn't do these things most of the time. Women were groomed to perform all these "services". But, as mentioned earlier, all these expectations on women have in history led to inconsistent job histories plus the wage gap issue (which is just data, not a political opinion or anything). I think the video mentioned the women's retirement thing cuz there's different social and economic effects from the lifespan differences, and it affects people's families and the economy. I hope that was explained better than the video. 10 minutes is a pretty short time to go over a more in depth subject but I wish you well friend and hope life serves you well 🙏

It’s interesting they did not mention working. I think for men, retiring and not having a sense of purpose really kills them fast. I saw that with my grandfather. As soon as he retired, he sat on the couch and died early 70s because he had no sense of purpose. I plan to work as long as I’m alive. Not for income, I have enough, but for keeping my brain and a sense of purpose. I plan to work in charity.

It’s more about being active than working. Retirees who stay physically active are healthier then individuals who sit on the sofa all day. That’s why a lot of retirees for example do gardening, or start golfing, or volunteer, going for long daily walks, etc.. to stay active.

Maybe he was worn out, or had a health issue you don't know about. You would need his medical records to be certain. I don't think you have a great plan. You're thinking like a workaholic. I suppose if your profession makes you happy, then well done! 👍 You have found your calling. I hope you have leisure in your life too. That would be double awesomeness.

@@xxxxMonkeyGirlxxxx If someone is not desiring to be active, the person might have health issues. Active elderly people are likely just fortunately healthy, for whatever reason. Inactive people might like to be active but cannot just leap up and get going. Usually older people have an accumulation of orthopedic issues. I say let them take it easy.

@@Minarreal I respectfully disagree. I think depression, and not having a sense of purpose are very much tight together and can cause premature death. We can agree to disagree: )

I agree with these kinds of videos Men tend to taking high risk, working as a construction workers show off on the street when they driving cars or motor than thinking of their safety first, smoke, careless about health, etc. So, be careful guys! As a 21 young man, i encourage you guys to be caution in taking any actions including accepting dagerous jobs offer.😊

it's very obvious. Most men die earlier because they are tired of listening to their wives.

There are people complaining that this video is about women, when it should be about men. And I think men are commenting this because they are in need of videos discussing these topics. I think men need to hear empathic things as much as possible. I heard that men rarely get compliments on their appearance, for example. Lots of men are insecure and don’t feel comfortable expressing that. I hope we can all be strong and help each other in this crazy world! No point in pointing fingers.

No, men don't need compliments. What men need are considerations and not being neglected. For instance, K-12 is dominated by women, and so boys are being raised by women. We need to address this because boys aren't going to college, because of women. And boys are being raised to feel like garbage while women are encouraged to succeed. We need to address all the INEQUITIES that men have. But for some reason society fails that. We all assume men can take care of themselves Men don't want pity or compliments, they want REAL CHANGE.
@YTSparty
@YTSparty Жыл бұрын
Other considerations, men suffering from PTSD, men who serve in combat are severely neglected. Men with suicidal issues are neglected. Men who don't know how to create personal contacts and friends need to be addressed. SADLY, thanks to Feminism and WOKE society, men are not only seen as not having problems, men are seen as the villains and are the problem. The TRUE REALITY is women live FAR BETTER lives than men in America. But you would never know it watching CNN/MSNBC.
