Thank you! Great lens to start! I’m a big fan of, when starting out, getting a 50mm and shoot the heck out of it. Luckily for Sony there is several really great choices. I am using the 55mm f/1.8. Love it! Only downside is the minimum focus distance isn’t the best.

Don’t worry about not being camera savvy. It’s all about having a good time learning. It does do indeed do video. Just all about all modern lenses produce great results. Do you know what lens you are going to use? If not what are you planning to photograph in Alaska? Are you focused on wildlife? If so the Sony 200mm to 600mm zoom lens with be a great choice. If you’re doing video with that setup get a good video tripod as well. I hope that help!

A few months down the road, mpb has several in excellent or better condition for 750, with some well loved examples needing a 10$ screen protector replacement for 650. My 5d mkii just died from a pebkac error, im considering replacing it with an a7rii and a sigma ef to e nount adapter. I only have the one lens atm, so I'm not married to a system. I shoot landscape, fashion and studio photography....i don't think it, a batter grip, and a power supply can be beat, but still allow me out and to shoot some wildlife.
@RetroPhotoPro

I haven’t bought from MPB before. I see their ads a lot. Price on it seems good though. I really appreciated the smaller size of the Sony. You will want the battery grip if changing batteries is an annoyance. Some people complain about the battery life, but I don’t mind it because I appreciated the size. May want to consider trading the lens in too. The new Sigma DG DN Art lenses are amazing and they are a lot smaller than the DSLR equivalents. Let me know how it goes!

okay so i got a dilemma. I have a sony a7ii and its great for photos, not an issue at all. way better than most others on social media since compression is inherent on those platforms. But the actual dealbreaker is the 1080p footage. It feels very sht to film 1080 especially if u wanna crop in or similar. also 1080 just feels like an equivalent of an iphone these days. (got a sigma art lens so glass is already good, but doesnt help when footage is low res, need the 4k) The real question i got at hand is if its worth to go for a sony a7r ii or a sony a7 iii as they both film 4k 30, only difference being that the mark 3 has a tad bit better autofocus. mark 3 also has a bunch of new features like double sd cards etc, but the question i got is if its really better than the r2, feels like the r2 would take better pictures and the video might be comparable, not sure really. What do u think? Im in the "hybrid" scene and need both a good shooter and a reliable video companion, so idk what to choose as they both seem like good deals (mark 3 is a bit more expensive second hand, but thye are in the same range so money isnt the main factor)
@RetroPhotoPro
@RetroPhotoPro 9 ай бұрын
Great question! I understand completely what you mean on the 4K. My question would be do you need the RII file size for something? Are you cropping a lot? If not I would take the III. It will be better in low light, and the autofocus being better. There is one downside here. If you are keeping the II is going to be now you will have two different batteries to manage, and everything that comes with it.

I think what we are seeing as a trend is all these super wizbang latest and greatest features everyone on KZfaq has been asking for really isn’t needed. Almost every photography channel is saying it now. I think you have a great combo. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Because it’s enough. Now it’s time to put in the heavy lifting of learning the techniques, and the very much harder task of learning who you are as a photographer. Those two cameras will allow you to do both. If you ask what is next from a gear standpoint I would invest in glass. Can’t afford the 2.8 zooms? Look at the f/4s. Want fast glass? Look at primes. All are less expensive, but do a fantastic job! Have fun! Can’t wait to see what you make!

@@anhkhoi158 no…. They are the same as autofocus goes. At least if there is a difference it’s not noticeable to me. The A6400 will shoot at 10 frames per second, and the A7rII is not as fast. I would say that in a quick shooting environment I have filled the buffer on the A7rII and would need to wait to it offload to the card. But it wasn’t a significant issue for me.

IBIS, Playmemories apps, Bright Monitoring (assign to trash can button), Great for astro, night, batteries will last only the video people complain, on camera panorama selection, Zebras, MF assist. Fast AF. But only buy Sony lenses start with the 16-35mm f/4, 24-240mm (APS-C mode 36-360mm) and when you can afford the low price 200-600mm plus the 2X teleconverter on sony better than one on Canon/Nikon once combo above f/8 no AF but Sony has no limitations but remember APS-C is 1.5 the reason 1.4X not needed , extras 12-24mm f/4 or APS-C E 10-18mm (15-27mm) But will work in Full Frame mode at 12-18mm (18 if you remove the lightshield) super small with OSS and threads for filters. never worry about f/2.8/1.8/1.4 for the dynamic range is awesome and the secret for bokeh is focus point just use small square. If you have one never sell for a low price due to last mod with Playmemories apps on camera and processed in camera never to be seen again!!!!!

I do! I think some of these earlier digital cameras have unique color profiles as the engineers tried figuring it all out. In the case of the A7r II I think it’s a capable modern camera. Which I think today’s cameras are retired not because they broke, but the photographer’s desire for new gear. It creates a lot of waste, and a lot of really great cameras sitting on shelves.

You make a good point. I mean recently I violated my own size weight stance sold my 85mm f/1.8 for the 85mm f/1.4… it was the lens I wanted but it wasn’t a native mount lens. Yes, having the right combo body and glass is ideal, but I think when starting prioritizing the lens over the body is the way to go. I’m always willing to work with the limitations of the camera, but a lens is a lens. It either has it or it doesn’t. Thanks for commenting!!!
@UnconventionalReasoning

@@RetroPhotoPro Perhaps we have to be careful when giving advice to remember the perspective o the person receiving it? The person "when starting" is barely going to notice the image quality difference between the 85mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.4. They are also going to struggle to "work with the limitations", still learning how to "work with". It's like when the pro says, "I can make an image with my iPhone which is comparable to a mid-level camera!" Sure, because they know how to work around what the iPhone is doing. If a novice or intermediate photographer picks up an intro- or mid-level camera, it will aid *their* photography, instead of doing their photography for them. Back to the camera vs lens question, many of us use one camera for most or all of our image making. If a less experienced photographer wants to go beyond their phone camera, maybe their child is a performer or athlete, they want to really represent their partner or kids, they like landscapes, macro, street, or travel photography. They might get the A7III to do everything, then build up the lens collection to best allow the types of images they want to create. They benefit from the capabilities and flexibility of the camera to succeed in all genres, and it is the camera which merges with them operationally. The camera becomes an extension of their hand and brain, then the lens becomes an extension of their eye. The lens represent what they see, the camera MAKES the image.
@RetroPhotoPro
@RetroPhotoPro Жыл бұрын
@@UnconventionalReasoning i don’t think there is anything wrong with what your saying. If someone wants to start and build their glass there is nothing wrong with that, at all. For me, and others we prioritize our glass so we have the range of tools at our disposal, and then upgrade to the latest camera. In my case I have been a working photographer for many years and I know what I want in glass. There is no wrong answer, and precisely why this is a great conversation. One will have multiple and diverse thought processes and move forward as what works for them. Thank you so much for all your comments! I love it!
@UnconventionalReasoning
@UnconventionalReasoning Жыл бұрын
@@RetroPhotoPro Yes, you know what you want having been a working photographer for many years. It is unfair to expect a new photographer to already know this. So many lenses are more than 'good enough', it takes time to understand which 'excellent' lenses will benefit our photography. Meanwhile, a slightly better camera may be operationally easier for the photographer to grow with.
