To explain the “Spongebob” comment one of the munchkins is played by the lead actor in the Spongebob musical, Ethan Slater. He and Grande had an affair on the set of Wicked. And then he left his wife just months after she gave birth and Grande left her husband. Freaking nutty story.

Not a story, it’s a rumor. We don’t know if there was ever an affair because it was never confirmed by anyone involved. The original source that reported on it backtracked and said they had no evidence of an affair

It is a great story. At least, the Broadway show is. Whether it is adapted well or it loses something in translation, we will see. If you're thinking that they are trying to steal the concept from the movie Maleficient in making the bad girl a good girl, no, the Broadway show open in 2003. Maleficient took the idea from Wicked. So Wicked starts as kind of a prequel story for Elphaba (the green Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda the Good Witch, as they start their time together at school (Dear Old Schiz, Schiz) being the name of the school and by the end of the show, we've gone through the events of the movie of the Wizard of Oz, kind of Lion King 1.5 style, seen from the perspective of the 2 protagonists. It kind of shows how Elphaba never intended to be Wicked but the people and authorities kept telling her that because she was green and because she had this magical powers that she was inclined to be wicked and they kind of forced her into her role, despite that the fact that she was trying to do what she perceived as good.

In Maleficent they completely miss the ambivalent part, needed to make such twist work. In the Ozz it was always clear that more is going there and "Wicked" being somewhat framed as evil. So it make sense why same story could work if looked from different angle. Instead making lazy twist that she is good and kind bad. They absolutely should make Maleficent dedicated to cause of Fairies and more her and king not willing to compromise. When both sides being at fault for the conflict. Instead they needed to make Three Fairies dumb to make her look bad, while there was literally no reason why she would be hostile. Sequel of Maleficent make is way better, excluding sugarcoated ending what ruin the movie.

Fractured fairytales have been around since, at least, the 90s. I remember reading the children's book from the POV of the Big Bad Wolf, where he was just misunderstood and had a cold. Though, I seem to remember it being vague whether he was telling the truth.

They are showing footage from both "Part 1" AND "Part 2" as they were filmed all at once. All the Dorothy stuff and the Wizard of Oz will be in the 2nd movie in 2025. Part 1 will just be Act 1 of the musical.

The question I always asked after watching the Wizard of Oz was how the witch had managed to dodge water he whole life before that. She never got caught in a rain storm or accidentally got a drink spilled around her? Did she have to drink water?

I do remember her not liking being sprayed by someone's closing umbrella at a tavern/pub/whatever and in another scene she cleans herself using oils.

Wicked is a prequel but also a side story at the same time. The beginning starts before the Wizard of Oz but by the end it's just showing you the witches perspective.

But you know, with musical films, studios want marketable cast members to appeal new audiences. It's a business, I get it, but still...

Wicked is based on musical. What become famous because book is actually extremely ambiguous regard who is good and bad. And Wicked herself was tragic figure. Doroty killed her sister when she arrived and Wizard was a hoax.

I think Dorothy showing up happens half way through the story so if this is a part 1, then I'm guessing the part where Dorothy and crew meet the floating Wizard head is gonna be the last scene in the movie.

The play is excellent; and if you love broadway, you should see it live on stage. I just don’t think this will translate well to the big screen. If the rumors are true, they are gonna pull a Dune pt 1 with this and split the story into two movies. With Dune, it’s a pretty complicated story so it makes sense to split it into two. Wicked, on the other hand, is a broadway show that could fit 2.5 hour movie.

Dune is also not rushed. They let the scenes breath and the dialogue linger. If they want to do this with Wicked while adding songs and brining in more of the book splitting it up could make sense.

I find it a little hard to believe anyone doesn't know what Wicked is lol. The second highest grossing theatre production of all time staring Idina Menzel. Idina Menzel the main character voice actor for the highest grossing animated film of all time. Singer of probably the most played song of all time. Singer of probably the most popular musical theatre production song of all time.

The "don't be afraid" -"I'm not afraid. It's the wizard who should be afraid of me." Is a direkt quote from the musical. Glinda and Elphaba are hiding from the wizards guards in an attic. No dorothy isnt really a villain in wicked. The 2 parts make sence story wise. The wizard of oz takes place during the 2nd act of the musical.

This story is much better than the James Franco movie Journey to Oz or whatever it was called. It's way better constructed. I don't want to give too much away but there are .... some characters who come off as "good" in the movie are doing some really shady things and Elphaba sees this and says, "No, this isn't right" and tries to help characters who can't help themselves and despite trying to do good, everything gets messed up and at the end she's like, "Alright, you've all been so determined to make me the villain here, I'll give you a villain to fear". Not exact lyrics, even though they rhymed.
