I'm so glad, Laura, when I hear you talk about preferring to draw on paper. I'm maybe about 17-18 years older than you, grew up without internet/smartphones/tablets, and I am still all about paper. I'm also a bit of a Luddite, which I don't think you are, but it's so good to hear a younger person who prefers the more tangible pencil and paper. Not knocking the incredible things you that can be done digitally. Can't really compete with that, and yet, putting pen to paper has its own connection that is just not quite there with digital. Also that you still get in-print publications: Girl after my own heart. : )

Heavy equipment and tractors are serious, a scratch from a rose bush is a simple life lesson. We can only worry about so many things as parents. I have two teenagers and it is a constant evaluation of risk. But the more I let them do, the more they surprise me with their amazing capabilities.

On the being worried or concerned note I think it’s so refreshing that you’re not overly worried. But also like thorns aren’t gonna kill anyone. But it’s nice to see a momma we know isnt neglectful but also not ridiculous.

There are lots of studies that link creativity to the actual hand movement of drawing / writing. You stay old school, girl. I have notebooks going back 20 years, and I don't have to worry about a thunderstorm making me lose all my old notes.

We have a daughter that is Benjamin's age and our rule with the tractor is that she is either on the tractor with us or she is with another adult when the tractor is in use.

Any milkweed I’ve grown gets swamped with those yellow aphids. Once they are in the garden, they are usually brought under control of the ladybugs, hover fly larva and parasitic wasps that are already there. If you try to make your garden as inviting as possible to beneficial insects, these things come into balance.

I love how interested Aaron is when Laura is wondering why the daffodils are up only on the south side of the pot. I love these videos.

I love the shared format with both you and Aaron. I have very much noticed how often Laura will ask what the name of a plant is and every time Aaron answers correctly!!!!! His knowledge/learning curve on plants has gone straight up. Congrats Aaron for making an effort to learn, even though it might not be as interesting as working on technical equipment or drones :) I hired my nephew last summer to do the hard slugging I couldn't do and he planted my plants too and he was very proud of his work and that he learned to recognize the plants and name them.

I remember my childhood and roller skating down the special, seamless sidewalk my Dad built especially for that purpose. There was a corner we skated around with a climbing yellow rose on the white fence. If you weren't careful on that turn, you would hit the fence and the get thorns in your hands. I learned to be very careful. My favorite rose color is still yellow!

Doing a check for little ones around equipment is so smart. I know a man who lost his arm as a two year old because he was napping in a field when his dad, a farmer, accidentally ran over the child with farm equipment. He didn’t know his son was there. Although my friend lost his arm he has had a wonderful life since. His dad must have had nightmares for years after that incident though.

I was getting ready to go to bed when I noticed this video was up. Oh, well, an excuse to drink another bottle of water for the day.

I think part of the reason we ask about you tying your hair up is that you are always having to fiddle with it, flip it out of your eyes etc. Tying it back brings so much freedom.

It makes you more accessible and less unattainable, LOVE the channels really influenced some of my gardening and made me want to move out of the city!

YAAY! You replied to my question about the winter watering of the evergreens by your door! I had to tell my husband and sent him the link. 😂 I have two baby Christmas trees at my front door and two box woods under the eaves near my front door, facing East, and I don’t think I watered them as much as you did yours, but they still look alive! So I’m hopeful they are good to go and will try to water more this next winter season. Thanks for answering my question! There’s been other videos that you say you water potted evergreens during the winter but I never caught where you said how often, or I was just glazed over by the beauty of the arrangement at the moment. I'm a big fan of teaching kids the proper way to behave and treat things. I never did a lot of child proofing, neither did my parents. I was taught at an early age to respect my parents things, if theyrr not toys dont play with it. Trained my daughter the same way. I wouldn't not have a certain plant or shrub in my yard unless my kid was allergic to it. It's better to train your kid, then expect the world to change for them.

I can’t stop staring at the lemon tree with fruit and have always wondered how they are pollinated when they are indoors.

Your baby worries have brought back memories! I swear, they would stop breathing for like five seconds whenever I looked at them and then take a huge breath in breath right as I was starting to panic!

I grew. Upvaround roses mom just iodined it and sent me back out with a now you know why ivsay stay away from them. Her rosemary was a huge ring and attracted bees but ones stung we learned to leave them alone. I can't imagine not having leatning moments in life. There is so much more in this world they are growing in now-a-days to worry about. But you do your best and hope they learn well lifes lessons. You pray that things and people that csn do harm stays awsy as they grow up and ecplore outside the comfort and protection of home.

I recently have been using clover as a ground cover or alternative to grass... It is draught tolerant, only gets a few inches tall, and grows flowers too... It can handle shade or full sun, swamp or draught... Food for thought there 😊

I think it’s natural to be concerned about tractor and cars hitting our kids. The difference is huge. Roses might hurt, but equipment can cause real harm. We think and feel concerned about things that can cause real harm and teach our kids to be cautious of that.

When you have a lot of hair if you put it up it pulls and makes scalp sore & can cause headaches. I have longer hair than Laura & never wear a ponytail. You live with your hair it’s just a part of you & you don’t notice it. Keeps you clean & protected too. Hair down doesn’t bother me one bit. I don’t like wearing gloves or mask either. Natural all the way. You grow stronger when you don’t worry about things you shouldn’t worry about. 🌎💜

For your containers with bulbs that only the one side is growing, try turning them. If it is in fact the south facing sun, it’ll help push the sleepy flowers up to match their siblings. Maybe..? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Re: Pruning Lilacs ( & a few other thick, bushy multi-stemmed shrubs), Prune out up to 1/3 to rejuvenate as needed, by cutting old, thick stems to the ground. This can be done in the spring, or late winter, but any time really. The older thick stems rarely produce blooms anymore. Then if needed, prune back the remaining branches by 1/3, or tip prune, if not fully mature, & just trying to keep it compact while young, & to increase stems emerging from the base. Best time to prune the main shrub tips, or by 1/3 to rejuvenate, is right after they've finished blooming. This allows them to have a whole season to build the following year's blooms. If you wait too long after the bloom, it may interfere with the next season's blooms.

A field of clover under those trees? I think I remember NorthLawn flower garden lady said that was her grass. Yes, I remember my Dad’s caution when we were barefoot “watch out for those bees”, but I always love sitting in clover!

I tried everything in everything here in Florida to get rid of Aphids on Milkweeds! Soap and water, alcohol and soap. The only thing that works is hunting the little buggers. I keep an eye on my Milkweeds and just crush them. When little just run across and gone, bigger crush with other leaves , smoosh! Big ones laying eggs I try to step on. Hunting we will go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get those yellow aphids on my milkweed also. They are called Oleander aphids. I spray them off with my water hose. The lady bugs do try but there are so many.

My daughter is just 2 or 3 months younger than Benjamin and we are in the SAME boat. Also our first. Also, like you, my first real experience with babies or young children -- steep learning curve!

The Impatient Gardner just did a dahlia tuber dividing. Aphids I heard if you take a yellow solo cup upside down and covered with vasaline . Then put the cup on a stick the aphids go there. Maybe it will work. Love the color of the new studio and the begonias are beautiful. When you were talking about your bulbs only half coming up in a pot. Maybe do a test and turn some of the pots around and see if it is the sun heating the pot sooner. As far as teaching Benjamin about the cars, trucks etc. You are also teaching him to listen to his enviroment and what is going on around him and being aware. Seems like kids don't know how to learn and watch about what is going on around them. You two are doing a great job. Thank you.

On the Aphids: I spray a mix of garlic, onion with water made in the food processor. Aphids are gone for the whole season as well as any fungal issues. No mill dew anymore. Works magic and pollinators still love my roses which look healthy all season like freshly bought from the store. I love this method: simple and 100% effective.🥳
