Hunting feral goats in rough country. Controlling population numbers and filling the freezer. 308 & 7mm Rem Mag getting the job done in very windy conditions.
This was a culling job and all younger animals were dealt with as well. Here in NZ we have no predators and all these animals are feral introduced species that need constant control to protect our environment and farm land.

Nicely done guys. Love your work and more please 🙂 I spent two days down in Otago chasing goats. Just got to work on my fitness lol. I had a nine Km drive out, on a gorge hill side farm track. I decided to end my hunt as Ithere were too many walkers. But on my way out I stopped to chat to a couple of walkers, then in mid sentence I notices a goat across the gorge. I excused myself from the conversation to put my bino's on the goat; Yes, it's a goat. I told the walkers what was about to happen and they decided to continue their walk. I got all my gear out, ranged it (153Yds), checked the wind (none). Took the shot, it was perfect, it didn't even get up, but to my surprise another goat got up from under a bush; as I'd automaticaly chambered another round, so I just squeezed it off and another perfect shot. I know my distances are not close to yours, but I'm still learning. It was so satisfying and the farmer was very happy too; six goats in all.

Sounds perfect!! Great when it all works out as practiced. Good work. They are tasty too!

Could you make a video of how you come up with a windfall for these cross valley shots? That’s my biggest weakness and you seem to be very skilled at it! Thanks a bunch. Love the content.

It's always going to be a tough call but I think people over think it. There is usually a wind that goes up or down the valleys as the earth warms and cools. Keep an eye on that and then add that to your ballistic solver will usually put you in the ball park. Use a high BC bullet that also hunts well. Elm, eldx etc. Also make sure your technique and dope is spot on. Lots of people blame the wind for any mistake. For example. I've never experiences "updraft" or "down draft" in shots that are under 700m and the areas I shot are highly mountainous with winds that certainly head up and down the hills. Plenty more content like this in my other vids. Enjoy!

It appears you are using many different shooting techniques and holds in this video. Is your point of impact the same as your baseline zero from bipod/bags or do you further compensate for how the shooting technique will effect your shot? My main struggle is i have got a good zero with a specific technique but if i am unable to get that technique exactly replicated in the hills due to terrain it will cause issues with the shot. Best accuracy has been obtained over pack with double sling wrap and hand over scope. But in the hills sometimes you cant get non trigger elbow on the ground and the method falls apart.

This is a great point, a lot of people try to do the cross arm technique and get straight behind rifle in the mountains and it doesn't go well for them. I always have one hand over the scope when using bipod. And I get off to one side with a knee up to let myself breathe and able to adjust to the terrain. Off the pack is great as it's always the same shooting platform but it does need practice to setup quickly. Definitely practice controlling the gun well. Steep uphill shots when using cross arm cause high jumps which you see in the slow motion shots on red stag hunters club etc. Check out Nathan fosters guides to holding the foreend at www.ballisticstudies.com

Nice shooting steep country. What projectiles and speeds you shooting? Wish remarms would get some new 700s out into the market

I know right!! I'm using a 180gr eldm at around 2930fps. It's a 8.5 twist from Trueflite here in NZ

Hey mate what bipod model and length have you found to be best for NZ mountain hunting? If hiking and but needing precision on varying mountain terrain what is your number one pick? I'm shooting a 7mm rem mag in otago. Cheers

Hey man. My pick are the tier One tactical bipod from stagersports. Or a genuine Harris. Both are around 9-13" adjustable. You need the length. The tier1 is wider and more stable and slightly lighter

@@ChasetheWildNZ how do you find the javelin bipod?
@ChasetheWildNZ

@callumdunn6070 I'd steer clear of the super light weight stuff. They lack stability for consistent performance. Also the quick release spigot has a lot of slack in it. A quick release pic rail work well
