So I figured it was time to take a look at the trailer for Wonder Woman 1984. Will it live up to its predecessor, or will it prove to be an embarassing disappointment? Let's find out.

I’m sorry but this was very dumb and misinformed. You say the movie will be bad based on hunch, and a 2 minute trailer? You apply science to WW latching onto lightning even though she’s a goddess, the daughter of Zeus and wields the magical, indestructible, Lasso of Truth?

They stopped caring a long time ago after they squeezed most of the good writers out of Hollywood by cheating them on royalties and percentages. People were still going to see their drek because there wasn't much option and for some reason people still like going to the theater. So they just kept cramming in more CGI over worse writing. People do seem to be getting tired of it though as earnings seem to have been shrinking in spite of a few "blockbusters." Still, they'll probably have to collapse, roll around in the dirt for a while, and then, maybe, they'll start making good movies again. Maybe.

my issue with remaking movies from the 80's is imposing modern 'sensibilities' over them -- they work because they're 80's movies with 80's culture and ideals. if your movie is set in the 80's and you start shoe-horning in woke themes, yeah, that's not going to work. stop bastardizing my childhood as if you were there or even understand it.

@@ANobodyatall but, really, can you name a drama set in an old era (current to the time it was made) that represents that era's culture that's been modernized and isn't just laughable dreck? you could point to some dramatic themes from, say, 'shakespeare' that are universal to any period (hell, even 'shakespeare' has been reduced literally to teen highschool drama as star vehicles). we're in a very dark period now, where everything and anyone is getting cancelled, white voice actors are quitting animated roles of black guys or biracial women, people have a problem with a disney ride because it's based on a banned movie no one has ever even seen, idiots are changing the name of their band because it has some southern ties, statues of abolitionists are torn down because any old white guy dressed in a certain style of clothing is racist, and people are freaking out over fucking pancake syrup. i wish i wasn't making this up or that even that's the half of it, but as it is the prequel to '1984' is writing itself. this is on top of the years-long SJWism going on in entertainment in general, so how is it even *possible* to take something without those universal dramatic themes and do them justice? there are great 80's flicks you just can't make today, like '48 hours.' i don't know how 'revenge of the nerds' isn't completely banned (one of my favourite movies, but, yeah, that shit would make a blue-hair REEEEE until it died... and, well, i couldn't say it wouldn't have *some* valid argument). if anyone has ever read the screenplay how-to book 'save the cat,' you'll know exactly how little thought or originality is going on in hollyweird today. then you can look at studios like pixar and see the formula they use to great effect.

With this and James Gunn's Suicide Squad, I'm more excited for DC properties than Marvel ones for the first time since 2005. I mean, Black Widow might be fun, but what else is MCU doing? Shang-Chi, a hero no one cares about? Eternals, basically a re-hash of Inhumans, surrounded by stupid controversy over a gay kiss? Eh... A Doctor Strange movie that was going to be a horror movie but then they backed away? THANKS, Disney!

Speaking of that. I like to point out how politicians use pejorative phrases, when referring to resistance to gun control, as wanting someplace to be the Wild West. I too have a bad feeling about this. Bringing Steve back makes no sense whatsoever. And there is no point for Diana to still be hurt about him. 70 years have passed and its not like these 2 had a deep and powerful romantic relationship. This idea....seems lame. There are plenty of villains to use in the DC universe and it could have been done in the present as well. I dont understand the 80s nostalgia. If Trump had never run for nor became president, I guarantee you that the villain for this movie would have been an 1980s televangelist. Not because Hollywood writers think hypocritical grifters are bad, mind you, but because Hollywood would have still been repeating its usual "Christian Man Bad" message, in the absence of the need for an "Orange Man Bad" one. That being said, I find it funny that Hollywood has finally found someone they hate more than Christians, and it's Trump. So much so that they've now made their irrational and obsessive hatred for both painfully obvious, by fixating wholly on one (Trump) and neglecting the other (Christians). But hey, Hollywood, just keep on making every single movie some form of hate propaganda, the public _totally_ aren't catching on...

The first film was "successful" (see: financially only) only because it had never been done before, so the allure was there. Sadly though, DC drank their own Kool-Aid and truly believed that they made an great movie and threw a sequel together expecting it would be as well received - it won't be. There's no "Smells like a new car" appeal to it now. Now they'd have to put out a movie that had a coherent story and identifiable characters to push that story. This has none of that. It will be lucky to do half what the first one did.

I’d love to see wonder woman in an ancient setting. Classical Greece, the Roman Empire, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance, etc. I feel like her aesthetic could work quite well there. Have her hang out with historical figures like Alexander the Great, Caesar, Richard the Lionheart, Joan of Arc, Charlemagne, George Washington, etc. Maybe have her fight creatures and villains from Norse, Greek, Roman mythology and hang out with its heroes too. Wonder Woman Fighting alongside Achilles during the Trojan war sounds badass to me. Or maybe do it in modern day? You literally have all of human history as well as the future but they couldn’t help f*cking up the timeline to account for their desire to bank on 80s nostalgia.

@Franz Styles And ancient times were also "ridden with war". And considering her looks, background, weapons, fighting style... She would fit in an ancient setting better. Studios are not trying to "give what they want". Studios see popular fan theories , and decide to cash in on that. Regardless of whether those theories make any sense at all. Even if ideas like these - joining these heroes together - could work, studios are not putting any effort into writing good, sensible stories. Instead, they fill the movie with silly fan-service, overuse of CG, smack some generic, senseless, useless little plot onto it all, and call it a day.

"Talking about movies probably seems pretty inconsequential..." I'd say these kind of videos are more important then ever, it takes our minds off at least for a little while from the coronavirus and the endless cesspool of panic and fear mongering of MSM. My country announced today that it's going to go into lockdown soon, so having something to watch is nice way to pass the time. Thanks Drinker, stay safe.

@@waltercomunello121 Dude, it's a mild infection. If no one ever mentioned anything about it, no one would know any difference. You'd get a flu, you'd take a couple days off work at home, then you'd be back to work. Everything about this is pure BS, pure hype, pure politics and media looking for ratings. It's a manufactured crisis.

Yea the nostalgia porn is starting to grate on me, that was my second biggest problem with Ready player one (book, never bothered with the film) after the garbage cliche plot. Usually just stuck on the most notorious stuff without even glancing at the problems of the era (unless they fit the agenda pushed). It doesnt help that in modern times there is no risk taken and remakes/reboots/nostalgia porn are the norm. It is good to eat one nice greasy burger once in a while, but eat it every day and you'll get a heart attack.

6:27 Give it a few years. They'll start on the 90s soon enough. These sort of period pieces tend to be 30 years removed. e.g. Back to the Future, an 80s film partially set in the 50s, and That 70s Show, a 00s show set in the 70s.

@@Vexsus22 Wonder Woman is literally a demigod. She's based on Greek mythology. The gods and demigods violate the laws of physics constantly. Swinging from lightning is tame in comparison. If you can't handle that kind of suspension of disbelief, then this isn't for you, and there's nothing wrong with that. A Wonder Woman movie that tried to be realistic wouldn't be a Wonder Woman movie.
