Hi, thanks for watching our video about our 3rd week turning this hunting shed into an off grid cabin for our family of 3!
In this video we’ll walk you through the install of our propane hot water heater, building a stock tank shower & curtain rod, and our life as a family of 3 making the jump into off grid living.

You left the darn mosquitoes! They are so big we have to put the chickens up at night to keep them from being raped. And in the Ozarks you have snakes and solid rock.

@@suemitchell1354 lol. I live in kc burbs (ugh) and bought property st Clair County. Here can dig a hole, There not much. Here no chiggers, there OMG. Here no snakes, there been lucky so far. Here mosquitoes, there mosquitoes...they love me wherever I go. Here no horse flies, there...run!

Mosquitoes eat me up! I googled to see if I could learn anything. About 45/50 years ago, my Mom had a skin cancer removed from her cheek. The Dr. told her to only use Dove soap ? Why I don’t know. So all these years I have only used Dove soap (I am now 78) on google I learned only female mosquitoes bite. They inject a small amount of anti-coagulant so your blood will flow freely. They prefer a few soaps, Dove being the only brand I recognized and dis-like Irish Spring, the only one I remember. Of course I immediately switched. It helps but not completely. No perfume, Irish spring and a good spray repellent and I am ready for them.

It’s been a dream of ours for a long time, and for once the dream has really lived up to expectation. Nothing is better than our slow mornings and nights sleeping in a pile in the loft. So precious!

I think Tesla was the alternating current guy, the DC guy was the one who electrocuted an elephant at the worlds fair to show how dangerous AC was, totally forgot his name after that…..Tesla never got his due as being the father of our grid and life as we know it, it is great though, that we all see his name everywhere now! Great job getting the place together, looking really nice!

Kinda new to seeing your stuff and trying to figure what's going on. Awe struck that you would want to leave the nice N.C. Barndominium , to move out into that cabin..... Yup, you got a bunch issues to fix at the new place. Hope the rats are gone, but the cold will drive them into cabin. get a cat.

We still own the barndo, and will be going back and forth as we fix up this property and get it ready for long term living. Next project on the list when we get back to the barndo is fixing my old wagoneer so we can bring it out here. The roads are killing my little escape!

You need to have a cold water side blending into the shower. Those water heaters are hard to regulate. Better than no hot water but i couldent wait to get rid of it at my cabin. Just watch the water doesent freeze in it over winter or it will be shot. Best to have them inside or in a warmer space.. sometimes in a small space a outdoor shower house is better. Just get a small propane heater, hang it on the wall and keep it going on a low setting all winter.

Now that you have a 12v water pump, you don't need that water tank so far away. You could have it next to the cabin. Some other channels are putting hay around and on top of their water totes to keep them from freezing but the tanks are butted against their cabins or rv's.

Good point! We will probably use the tower as a gravity water hose situation eventually, but we’ve got to do some serious work on the roof and to create a water catch system with tanks closer to the house. Probably won’t happen until next spring if not summer.

Have you thought about solar lights for inside cabin, safer than oil lamps. Not the ambience though.

If you have pex remember to shield it from the sun, it will breakdown outdoors. Otherwise great job.

You forgot to mention that expansion packs tubing is made out of a material that's like crack to rodents and rats.. it's like the glue in press board that cockroaches are attracted to and they eat.. so if pipes are going to be outside exposed they should probably be wrapped in some type of mesh. I live in Northern Wisconsin.. mice seem to eat the tubing before the eat the electrical wiring..

I don't know if it would work or not to keep the rodents from chewing on the pipe but after installing packs in my house I had a crapload of little tiny pieces that would normally go in garbage so instead of throwing them in the garbage I just threw them into every little nook and cranny in my scoreboards ceiling any gaps that you normally don't see that rodents like to run around inside of so my theory don't know if it's will work or not but my theory is that maybe they'll eat the pieces before they eat my pipes.. I would rather have leaks in my piping 10 to 15 years from now preferably just not next week..

Love the work, just one thing though, the voice level on the video's is really low have to turn up volume, but then the music comes on and about blows me out of my seat, twice as loud. So I am constantly adjusting the volume. No biggie just didn't know if you were aware of this.

Initially the intent was to get enough flow via gravity that we wouldn’t need a pump. Where we put it is about 15 feet up in elevation from the cabin. Sadly our water heater needs more pressure in reality than the manufacturer says it does.
