Wait... is it possible when you play Thoughtseize to not have your opponent discard a card? I know when searching libraries you can 'fail to find' (if the card has to have certain characteristics, you may declare that you didn't find a card that fit that criteria and not find it), but does that also apply to cards in hand?

If the card says "look at" then you can fail to find, because it isn't open information. If the card says "reveal" then its open info and you cannot fail to find.

HulbeH +Drecon84 you must choose a card to discard with Thoughtseize, if there is a suitable card (a non-land).

Seeing this is a world championship vid, I guessed this will be watched by many other MTG players. I am relatively new to the game and mainly play a green-red aggro deck with lots of burn spells (really green is only in there for a bit of ramp and card draw) and I was wondering what you think of my decklist. I would like to replace some cards if there are better alternatives and ideally cut to 60 cards so as to cycle more efficiently. This is how it runs (mana cost and effect are in there for me to evaluate): Creatures (28) 4x Zurgo Bellstriker (2/2) R 3x Kessig Prowler (2/1) G 2x Elvish Mystic (1/1, Tap to add 1 Green) G 4x Zhur-Taa Druid (1/1, Tap to add 1 Green, 1 face damage when tapped for mana) GR 4x Firebrand Archer (2/1, Whenever you cast a spell, 1 face damage to opponents) 1R 4x Flamewake Phoenix (2/2, Flying, Haste, 4+ power creature= pay 1 red to return from gy) 1RR 4x Akoum Firebird (3/3, Flying, Tribute 2, if not paid, gain haste and return to hand) 2RR 2x Thundermaw Hellkite (5/5, Flying, Haste, 1 damage to all flyers, tap them) 3RR 1x Neheb the Eternal (4/6, Afflict 3, add R to your pool postcombat for each 1 life lost) 3RR Spells (19) 3x Lightning Bolt (3 Damage to Creature or player) 1R 4x Destructive Revelry (Destroy artefact or enchantment, 2 damage to controller) RG 3x Bolt of Keranos (3 Damage to Creature or player, scry 1) 1RR 4x Devil’s Play (X damage to player or creature, flashback for XRRR) XR 2x Fireball (X damage, divided as chosen, pay 1 per target for each target beyond one) XR 3x Harmonize (Draw 3 cards) 2GG Lands (23) 4x Game Trail (Tap to add R or G. I really love all the commentators. The only two I kind of do not like as well are Rich Hagon and BDM. I prefer Marshall Sutcliffe, Randy Buhler, Zac Hill, and especially LSV.

toby frogley Unless your opponent has removal or blockers. Swiftspear can attack on turn one and can be pumped twice to survive Lightning Bolt.

toby frogley In a format full of lightning bolt, Vexing Devil is by no means a guaranteed 4 damage. The reason Goblin Guide is more powerful is it generally does anywhere from 2-8 damage (if you're on the draw and your opponent leaves open 1-mana removal, then Goblin Guide will only do 0 however), whereas Vexing Devil generally only does 0-4.

Why are bounce spells more effective against Swiftspear? If anything, haste makes it better against bounce. The problem with Vexing Devil is that it gives your opponent a choice. Swiftspear always does what you want to do, like when you really need a blocker yourself.

toby frogley Fair enough, though Vexing Devil is still worse than Swiftspear just because Swiftspear is so much faster and isn't useless when you topdeck it.

APKistler swiftspear is terrible in burn, and i guarantee shahar regrets playing 4 colour burn.

Chapin was calm at this point, but he was completely nervous and shaky in the finals against Shenhar. His hands were literally shaking, he made lots of mistakes, while Shenhar was cool as the other side of the pillow. Efficient destruction.
