In the tapestry of rugby history, when the Springboks and All Blacks clash, it's nothing short of epic. These are matches painted with power plays, strategic brilliance, and sheer determination. The recent showdown in south-west London will be etched in the annals as a testament to the Springboks' might and power.
Setting the Scene:
The Springboks and the All Blacks have given the world some of rugby's most iconic moments. As the two titans squared off in London, with the looming World Cup casting its shadow, it wasn’t just about victory; it was about legacy, momentum, and pride. The match was officiated by Referee Matthew Carley, flanked by ARs Christophe Ridley and Craig Evans, and aided by TMO Tom Foley.
A Game of Moments:
Rugby is often a game of moments, and this match had its share. The dual yellow for Scott Barrett that resulted in a red card was certainly a pivotal point, but it's worth noting the meticulous deliberation that went into the decision. Barrett's actions, particularly in the high-stakes environment of this matchup, were closely scrutinized, reflecting the importance of player safety and discipline in today's game.
Pieter-Steph du Toit's tackle on Sam Cane could easily have become another flashpoint, but the officials, after careful review, deemed it worthy of a yellow - a testament to their emphasis on balanced judgment. Faf de Klerk's playful mischief and the dynamic around the lineouts and scrums further underscored the challenging task the officials faced. Their decisions, though occasionally debated, showcased a commitment to upholding the spirit and integrity of the game.
Springbok Supremacy:
Beyond the whistles and cards, it's impossible not to marvel at the sheer dominance of the Springboks. Their clinical execution, coupled with raw power, had the All Blacks on the ropes. The lineout mastery, the formidable scrum showings, and the relentless pressure, punctuated by moments of individual brilliance, made this a match to remember for every Springbok supporter.
The forwards of South Africa encapsulated the Springbok spirit, combining strength with strategy, ensuring the All Blacks felt their presence throughout. The scoreboard might tell a part of the story, but the Springboks’ control of the game narrative was absolute.
Conclusion:
While the final whistle marked the end of the match, discussions and analyses started brewing. This video delves deep into the key decisions, offering a lens into the challenges and responsibilities of rugby officiating.

This is a reupload from my video on Sunday, it initially got blocked in New Zealand, but I did appeal the claim and Sky Television New Zealand submitted a fraudulent takedown request of that video, which results in it automatically getting taken down. I immediately filed a counter notification, since my video follows the fair use guidelines, but now I have to wait 10 business days for that video to be reinstated. So this video will be blocked in New Zealand, since Sky Television New Zealand do what they always do and abuse KZfaq's Copyright system, or they're trying to protect their fans from witnessing how the Springboks destroyed their team.

@@sergiobenjamin6601 Yeah I saw that, and them basically saying Malcom Marx faked an injury, was just a stupid take. And I agree that we shouldn't be too confident just yet, but it is definitely nice to see the boks getting form at the right time, especially our forwards because that game showed us one thing, and that is that if the boks forwards are at their best, we'll dominate any team in the world. So hopefully the forwards can keep it up.

I offer doing it for free. For me these videos are not only for pointing out right and wrong calls. These videos educate people about the rules and to gain a better understanding about the wonderful game of rugby. Many people are either not educated on the complexities of the the rules of rugby OR they still think the laws of the game are still the same as it was back in the day. Making these videos serves the fans to understand the game making them more likely to enjoy it. Doing voice overs will deliver a better experience by allowing the viewers to focus on the game footage without distraction. Mr TAS. Please consider. No, my accent will not give away my country thus will not be the cause of comments calling these reviews biased. I can even switch my accent. 😄

Referees did put themselves under pressure for always only looking at SA infringements. Nick Mallet eloquently put it in an interview when we started in the URC. The referee would position himself to on see and concentrate only when SA teams faulted. He said you need to look at both teams. That make Referees good. Suddenly, when referees look both sides, they now miss 50/50 on both sides, to make the errors equal and it is supposed to cancel out. Yes, the referee made mistakes, both sides, in contrary to one-sided officiating in the past against SA.

Hi, I am an All Blacks supporter but that should have no bearing on what I am about to say. Firstly, South Africa clearly dominated the game and frankly destroyed the ABs. It was a fully deserved win. To be a great team, you must take the referee out of the equation (which 🇿🇦 did in this case). Bad calls happen all the time but you must adapt (another thing which the ABs failed to do). In this game I think it’s clear that the referring was not biased but it was inconsistent. This is how rugby has been for around 6 years now and it is seemingly getting worse. The rules of rugby are in an even worse state. Foul play rules are ridiculous (not to mention judiciary). I don’t even think that PSDT’s yellow card should be a penalty (ABs player was leading with head). Scott Barrett’s yellow was justified (reckless but no head contact). The fact is that rugby is a contact sport and is stupid to believe that we can have no dangerous collisions. These rules incentivise teams to make passive tackles, leading the attacking team to just hold the ball for endless periods of time. There are way too many penalties. I am not an expert but if I delved into the rules I am sure I would be able to eliminate tons of rules that slow the game down. This leads me to my next gripe. Time wasting is rife in rugby at the moment. Players who are injured (or pretending to be injured) should leave the field immediately. Set pieces should start within a time limit (and while the set piece is happening the time should be off). Same applies for goal kicks. This game lasted for 107 minutes and only 33 minutes saw actual play. This is disgraceful for an 80 minute game. 20 minute red cards be brought in. I don’t know why World Rugby didn’t allow this. They seem to like picking and choosing innovations from super rugby (E.g. 50-22) so why don’t they use this? Overall, the rules must be tidied up and the refereeing must be far more consistent. If you do not agree with what I say please tell me and we can have a friendly debate. At the end of the day, we all want rugby to be better

You didn't look at Scott Barrett's first yellow card. It shouldn't have even been a penalty. Barrett was pushed by a SA player over the ruck and forcibly rammed into the SA 9. I agree his second yellow card was utterly stupid and deserved. I also agree that ABs should have been far more heavily penalised for the scrummaging collapses - geez... Fletcher Newell ... he didn't even play Super Rugby this year. He is not ready to be back in the Black jersey. The Lineout laws you are citing, some of the occaisions you point out are correct, but some you claim are offside are absurd claims. You are allowed to prepare for the other teams maul by readying your arms. Mauls are 1) boring 2) ugly 3) lacking skill 4) difficult enough to defend as it is. If you want referees to properly govern exact technique for every single lineout, god what an awful game to watch that would be ... I would prefer more stringent rules around attacking with a maul than defending it. Like you shouldn't be able to wheel a maul around to the side, like you can't wheel a scrum. Either you have the power to advance or you don't. If you don't then get the ball out so the fans can see some entertaining attacking rugby instead.
@nerdyali4154
@nerdyali4154 9 ай бұрын
Who cares what you would prefer. The lineout laws are clear and you take your chances if you step offside like that. It is interfering with the opposition. I would strongly disagree that mauls lack skill. It takes coordination and appreciation of the laws to maul properly. Mauls are very entertaining and are certainly attacking rugby, just sucks to be on the receiving end. Perhaps you would prefer watching touch rugby?

@@nerdyali4154 Obviously I care about my preferences as much as you care about mauls and pedantic refereeing of lineout laws. I never said a maul isn't attacking. IMO they aint there yet. If what you saw in the SA vs NZ game is your definition of an entertaining game ... well shit, I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps you would also like gouging out your own eyes with a spoon?

@@wot4922 Totally correct. I was pointing out that the analyst did not examine the footage in depth to establish whether or not Barretts first action was deserving of a penalty. You can see the SA forward tackling Barrett over the ruck towards the SA half-back. Barrett didn't leap over and play the 9 on his own accord, which would be deserving of a penalty and given the high penalty count and warning a deserving team yellow card.

Good to see your video back up. As a n.zer I did think during the match s.a were driving the line out into nz. But as you explained that wasn't the case. S.a dominated the scum. Can you see if the disallowed try by nz was given by the ref,? As I thought it was but called back by the tmo? If that's the case it's pretty odd. Yes nz fouled a lot, and yes you show some that sa got away with. There is another video of sa 2nd try, and ardie getting intentionally get tripped up by a sa player on the ground. With the sa neck rolls should the nz player stand down like the sa player and got the tmo to look at it? I hoped rugby wasn't going down that road. So although we were out played if things went a bit more our way it might have been a bit closer.

Rugby is a contact sport, I think it is getting ridicules with the calls, on head contact as that will happen, I agree clear foul play should be penalized but to be honest allot of Yellow's are not Yellow or penalties, secondly officials needs to stop these soccer behavior coming into the game of faking injuries!

I can agree the ref missed some calls against the Boks but we have been penalised in the past unfairly game after game while some not so saintly All Blacks got away with things. So we have endured this often. So stop whinging All Black supporters, get over it, and move on, because if you are honest you were second best on the day. Play the same game this weekend and it would be very different. We know that, but we for sure enjoyed the moment!

If the game was stopped according to TAS analysis . There would be no play ever. TMO intervening calling out an infringement 5 phases ago or indeed reversing a try decision, with the benefit of slo mo, sucks. Also these neck roll calls are rediculous. reduculous.

Players in the lineout can move as soon as the lineout commences, which is when the ball leaves the throwers hands. They can't cross the line of touch (not 0.5m from the line of touch) until the ball hits the ground or touches a player. Watch the lineouts again carefully. At almost every LO in the video the ABs move AFTER the ball has left Marx's hands - perfectly legal and they don't cross the line of touch until the ball has touched a player, again legal. Both the ref and our video analyst got this wrong. Barrets 2nd Y: a) he certainly was going for the ball as it popped out right at the collision point immediately, and b) it wasn't to Marx's head, but his shoulder. (No worse than RG Snyman's smash on Retallicks shoulder a few years ago in a ruck that put BR out of the game for about 6 months and from which he has never been quite the same)

I have always said this but I was told I am just a sore loser, NZ is masters at playing at offside making it difficult for the teams, which means they are not playing by the rules! That is why they can put teams under pressure, it is clear, clearly the Lines man should see this but they don't want to call it as it will be every lineout and NZ will be showed up as cheaters, sorry to say!

In football they don't even bother applying the rules. Beaten defenders are routinely allowed to reach out and paw at the opponent and disrupt his momentum, the ref ignores it and the mongoloid commentators, if they even notice, will say "Fer me, it were 50/50 competin' fer the baw". It absolutely kills the game. George Best would end up punching someone in frustration if he played now. The standard interaction between ref and players involves lots of scowls and snarling.

1. MAULS are killing rugby😂 = They are stronger than us up front! 2. The game was too slow😂 = We were holding players long after the ball was gone, We had the longest injury where we never removed our "Stabbed!" prop Lomax, Plus you had to review all our card fouls. 3. They picked 7 forwards! 😂 = They are "Abusing their Bench", we don't have the depth to do bomb squads too, so we must stop them from properly pasting us like that with theirs. Shriek for World Rugby 4. Nobody likes stop start rugby😂 = Springboks are responsible for our injuries, cards and pressurized us into countless fumbles & knock on's, they spoil our champagne rugby game 5. The TMOs are too involved 😂 = Sorting out all our on the edge cheating, holding of players is a massive job & we expect officials to let us get away with most of it, these ones actually wanted to penalize us for everything.

We have rugby league for the champagne rugby...boring. Union is about a balance of strength and speed. The scrums and mauls are what makes it interesting. Already the held up pushover results in the defending team getting the next call... Anything to change the game to deter sides from gaining advantage over the ABs and reduce scrums they don't like.
