This yoga practice is meant to help those suffering from inguinal hernia. These are some of the poses and exercises that I did during my healing process. This is not medical advise, simply sharing my experiences in the hopes that it may help others. Remember each case if different so it’s important to listen to your body when trying any type of exercise. If something doesn’t feel good for you then be sure to avoid that position.

Hey Tom! Thanks for sharing your recovery process. I had mesh surgery to treat an inguinal hernia several months ago and just found I developed another one on the other side. I am a climber, and this really took a toll on my emotional and mental health. I started following your exercises and feel that there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Bless you, man!

Thanks for sharing Juan, I used to be big into climbing too! I remember climbing when I had the hernia, the pressure from the harness felt like it would make it pop out for sure. Definitely difficult if you can't partake in your sport. I wish you a quick and successful recovery!

This is a great video. So, if I can feel a lump when I press my fingers into the groin area but it's not visibly sticking out, would the hernia be considered 'in' or 'out'?

Hi Tom, Thanks again for making these videos. I had been following some of your older ones and I do think it's helping, I don't think it's protruding as much or often as it used to but it's still coming out. I am happy to see your new full routine here 😎 Something for me to try to include. I am struggling to hear what you are saying in the video though, the sound overlay I'd drowning out your voice, well, on this device anyway 🤔 Is this the same with you or perhaps just my phone here? Cheers, Mac

Hi Tom, i came accross your videos after being being diagnosed with a small inguinal hernia in the right groin. I played football a few weeks ago and ever single my groin has been feeling heavy with a slight burning sensation from time to time. Although i’ve been told i need surgery on my small hernia, should i try these workouts or not aggravate it any further to a point it’s sticking out?

Hi Tom , will like to know if you have been able to continue your boxing and if at all any pain or sense of the hernia during workouts? What I find during these times is i will forget I have the hernia and then if I go too many days without consitent workouts or yoga poses i then feel the pressure in my inguinal area. It goes away after I do lots of inversions and get back to the routine. I am fine with realizing that this may be the best I can get , do routines and avoid the surgery. Just wondered what you see long term. I am on year 3 and have made tremendous progress but there are just moments as I explained that have me question a lot of the work.
@tommaher1841

I think keeping up with the practice is important if you're still feeling pressure in that area. I am able to train pain-free now, so I don't do much in the way of hernia rehab anymore. However, if I felt any discomfort I would return to the practice and other lifestyle changes as much as needed. You said it's been 3 years, does your hernia still come out often? Or are you able to reduce it and keep it in during training?

Hi Tom! Hope you're doing well! Well I just got diagnosed with Inguinal Hernia 2 weeks back and I'm just freaking out alot by reading all the stuff on Google. Just wondering if you can give me a word of advise and I wanted to know does emotional stress increase the size of hernia in the long term? Thanks :)
@tommaher1841

Hello, after the diagnosis is a scary time. I remember feeling very defeated while looking at my options and waiting to schedule my surgery. My advice would be to get to know your condition, spend time paying attention to it every day and find out what aggravates it vs what makes it feel better. Learn how to get it to go in and try to keep it in however you can. Diet changes, fasting, and physical rehabilitation could have many benefits, but it's hard to say if you'll ultimately be able to heal completely without surgery. You have to give it your best shot and find out, but it will take a lot of dedication and commitment.

@@tommaher1841 I have been thinking that walking up hikes would be good but you are saying it hurt more? I am just wondering how limited are we after so long. I had a set back 2 weeks ago. Think it was a small tear on my abdomibles as I finished some core exercises. I am better now and will keep resting a litte more. I may have been doing too much. I just hope I can do small hikes when we go to Europe. Will slowly add to it I guess.

@@tommaher1841 - actually Tom, I am in BKK. I came here from CNX (5yrs there) to rehab a pretty bad back injury. Now this; the fun continues. I don't know that you are not qualified to coach. We share a very similar lifestyle - though I am quite a bit older than you - and you have been, and are going through this. Of course when you hit something like this the amount of information is overwhelming. So, someone with trial and error experience I think would be a very valuable resource. What I learned through my back injury I believe could help others; that kind of thing. I do not see an email on your about section but if you're willing to put it in here I can send you an email and maybe we can find a way to communicate. Hope all is well with you in mountainous CNX. When I had the hernia, running was out of the question. Even walking made it pop out. After healing, I eventually got back to running, lifting, fighting, and being fully active. Everyone is different, so you have to pay attention to your body and see how running affects you. If you can run while keeping the hernia in, then I'd say it might be alright.
