Need a pair of those Feiyues. My intuition always drove me towards a light, flat shoe like those you described from starting doing martial arts and lifting weights in my teens. Great to have some context put on it all. Nothing better than that type of shoe for hitting the bag, practicing kicks etc.

I bought a pair of aqua shoes/sock shoes for deadlifting and squats. It has a non-slip sole and they're very flexible over the foot with a wide toe box that allows you to manipulate your feet for the perfect foundation for compound lifts. They're cheap as chips and can be washed in the washing machine.

I wear the French/US version of the Feiyue shoes and I love them. They are a bit stiffer and thicker padded than their Chinese counterparts, which I find I need for my unaccustomed feet! You can tell the difference between “authentic” feiyue shoes and French feiyue shoes by the marking on the sole. The green triangle are authentic and the red circle are French

Very true. Got some knock off feiyue shoes in "warrior" and "lutai" branding and they are my go to shoes now everyday. Feels fery uncomfortable to go back to typical shoes from footlocker etc. Got knock offs because I'm late to the game and all the feiyue are sold out of my size, or unavailable, or the ones on Amazon don't ship to Hawaii...but the knockoffs do! So good deal. 👍 best knock offs I found were Amazon store from T.O.P. ONE seller name. I guess top one is a parent company of the factory 🏭 great video!

I have to agree minimalist training shoes are a must to help to get better balance, being in my 70's I know about balance, the only shoes I wear when training on Trx, KB, Indian club, or Mace is the Feiyue I start years ago wearing them for Thai chi. I personally prefer low cut and if you don't have knees problem the are good for jump roping it's going to feel like you are barefoot they have a very good grip for TRX, I can have a 45-degree angle and no sliding they don't last long but I use them only for workout and don't walk outside and they are very affordable so far best price is at Wish.com. I am US 10.5 I get Chinese 45 /27.5 Perfect fit. Hope that helps.

I know others have mentioned it but you really should look into Vivobarefoot shoes. Barefoot shoes with a 3mm super flexible sole, wide toe box, feather light (for travel) and their styles are improving the whole time. They have training shoes, casual wear, hiking boots etc all with the same minimal sole. The only draw back is they are a little expensive. I notice you like to wear boots occasionally, they do a men's brown boot called the Tracker. For most of my gym training I wear Stealth III and I run in their Primus Lite II. Also for a more commerical CrossFit shoe that you might like, the Reebok Nano 8s have a 3mm heel drop and a wide toe box, the sole is fairly flexible too. I haven't tried any of the newer model Nanos, I believe the new Nano X has a 4 mm heel drop. The Nanos are a far better feeling shoe than Metcons (if you like wide toe box and flexibility). I bought have a pair of Metcon 5s, extremely narrow, with a tight toe box and no flex in the sole. I never use them. I realize this is for the weight lifting component however I think they went overboard. They are too close to a traditional weight lifting shoe which is a very niche category of shoe and if I want to weight lift/oly lift I'm going to use a specialist shoe something like an Adipower .

Hi, can you explain what you mean when you say " heal drop " in a shoe please?
@TheSwayzeTrain
@TheSwayzeTrain Жыл бұрын
@@dogrescuer1321 Heel drop is the angle of elevation from the heel to the toe of the shoe. If you look at most shoes from the side, the heel is generally far higher and as you move towards the front of the shoe it flattens out. Having a higher heel drop can be useful for things like weightlifting shoes e.g. Adipower shoes. As it allows people to compensate for a lack of dorsiflexion. Personally speaking I prefer most of my shoes to have minimal heel drop,

My favorite shoe of all time is the Merrell Trail Glove 3 trail running shoe. After I bought my first pair and wore them for a while, I immediately bought 3 more pairs. I wear them every day, and I have gotten about two years wear out of each pair ... even then, they aren't worn out ... just don't look so good. They are the closest thing I've foundto being barefoot and still have the protection to wear anywhere. I just broke open my last pair, and they don't make them any more. They now have the Trail Glove 4 and 5 which I haven't tried yet. I really wish Merrell would offer them again.

Merrell Trail Glove 4 is just fine for me. I got one pair, then 2 more pair when I found them on sale for 50% off. Don't care for the color of the sale shoes, but who cares for the price? Merrell also makes a Vapor Glove shoe that has a less nubbly outsole that may be a better choice for some. No cushioning at all. You can really feel the surface you're training on through the sole, but you don't spread or pickup various fungi from gym floors, dog poop between the toes and the like.

I ref basketball and have been able to transition all shoes to wide and flat except these. I have and like the Xero’s Prio and may try their HFS in all black when/if available again. @TheSwayzeTrain
@TheSwayzeTrain 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you saw this video, he made a video all about flat feet. Poor alignment of the feet is one of the things that may have played a hand in wearing down your cartilage as you have knee valgus (knees that roll inwards) when you have a collapsed arch. I would imagine he would insist your doctor advise you on whether or not you can train based on your personal pathology, which is always sound advice. However speaking from personal experience as someone who has had many joint injuries over the years from being in the military, I modified my training to train pain free and things like KBs and clubs, following the training advice of someone like Mark will only improve how you move. In your case, strengthening your feet will take future stress off your knees, allow them to work how they are meant to move and help minimize further damage. As the saying goes: 'if you think training is dangerous, try being weak. Being weak is dangerous.' kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLeEiJSa3Z67pWw.html

rock climbing shoes you wear barefoot, so they can stink. I made “shoe potatoes” (my name for them, as a joke). Use nylons and close the end with string (when you have already used the toe section). stuff the nylon with hamster shavings, either cedar or pine. tie them closed with a string. now they look like a potato. make it roughly as long as the shoe. stuff them in the shoes when you take them off your feet. the shavings help dry the shoe faster and remove the smell.

@@MarkWildman Ahhh Yeah I understand how fivefingers are basically a harvesting machine for unwanted greens between your toes. I don't do trailrunning so I don't have that problem. I think you should only look into the Vivo's if you want stylish shoes. I think that's what the brand excels at - barefoot innovation meets beauty. Take care man!

@@MarkWildman Search on amazon "whitin". $30 barefoot shoe with wide toe box. It is amazing for running, lifting, kettlebell, etc. But wouldn't work for fighting training, outsole aren't smooth enough... I bought one to try...ended up with 3 pairs and wear them every day

Great Video! But... You've to watch out with the Feiyue to get the original and not the French version (they're only made for fashion) Originals are Feiyue DaFo or Top One, they're much better for athletes

FYI for everyone looking to buy Feiyue shoes, there are two different companies making them. Notice how Mark's have a green triangle on the bottom, and the letter Y in the name on the side of the shoe looks more like a V. I bought a pair a few months back from the feiyue website and on mine, instead of the green triangle on the bottom its a red circle. Also the Y is very cleary a Y. If you look on Amazon you will find this style. They're not nearly as bendy and the sole is quite thick. The ones like Mark is wearing you can find here: www.tigerclaw.com/feiyue-shoes-martial-arts-pr-7012.html

@@MarkWildman yeah, I didn't think about it before your video. Didn't even consider that it matters:) Found your channel, coz bought my first cattlebell for working out at home during quarantine. Wear shoes with the thin vibram souls. It's as close as you can get to being barefoot without actually being so. They're durable, have the big toe box and you can wash them.

John J when you go to order vivos they have size calculator on their site. So depending on what you wear now it’ll suggest the best size. When I got mine the size was pretty accurate. As far as hiking, I haven’t gone just yet, but I have worked out in them, squats, deadlifts, and some conditioning work, definitely felt better than I was expecting.

@@ZeroCool8789 I've had the boots for a few days and thought I would give you an update since you were kind enough to respond...wore them just @ the house and yard for a couple days to make sure no bad rub spots, last 3 days hiked @ 90 min a day and feel like they'll be fine, very comfy, no long break-in needed. Used them a few times to do some kettlebell swings and am sure they'll be fine for working out if I need shoes. I did notice and expected to feel rocks a little more but they didn't make my bottoms sore. I guess I should copy and paste this review on their web site :) Good luck!
