In Our latest Video, I show how to remove and completely Refinish the wood Furniture on my Zastava M70 O-Pap 7.62x39 AK-47 Rifle. This is our Longest Video too date and it is the most Labor intensive. Some people will say I went way to far in the preparation work, but the end result is the culmination of all of that Preparation work. I say the Devil is in the Details, you can probably get a count of how many times I even say it. I upgraded my shop lights during this series, it made a world of difference in the quality of the film. Enjoy the video, feel free to subscribe and comment. I hope yours turns out as beautiful as mine did.

I just got done refinishing my NPAP. I followed your instructions in the video and had no problems at all. I chose red chestnut for the color of the stain. I put on 4 coats and it turned out how I visualized I wanted it to look like. Looks great. Thanks a lot for posting this awesome "how to" video.

Biiiiiiiig thank you! I followed your instructions exactly, and my O-Pap came out beautiful. If it was not for your video, I would skip about 90% of the process, do everything in one sitting, and have a crappy looking AK. But, thanks to you, I took my time, and it looks like it was stained professionally. I wish i could show you pictures.

sonick808 Hey There Sonick808, As you saw I had a running debate about whether to fill in the Blemishes on that AK47 Furniture. I am glad I decided to leave all of those imperfections, I feel the gun still has its history under that beautiful finish. I'm glad to hear that you did the same thing with yours. Thanks for watching our Videos.

Now, u may wanna do: 1. Replace the plasticy pistol grip 2. Do checkering on the above 3. Do checkering on the bottom forearm 4. Try then, to stain the pistol grip

I just got my Zastava O-PAP. I noticed that there is an alignment issue of the gass block with the rest of the body. The wood on the gas block sticks out a little more on one side. I took it to the range and seems to shoots straight. Is that something you see on yours?

Hey let me first say your gun looks alot better now and thanks for showing us newbies how to do it on our own. I have a question though if i wanted my color to be darker then yours would i need to do more coats then the 6 you used or do i need to get a different color all together? I want it cherry but just a little darker. Also what is making it shine so much did you add something else after you did your last coat of cherry? Thanks man

Chris1776 Hey Chris, Thank you for commenting on the Video. if you want your gun to be Darker just choose a deeper red or a lighter brown. As for the Shine, I coated it with a polyurethane to protect it and to give it that glossy shine. Good luck on yours, feel free to subscribe because I am about to do a video on the one plus year of refinishing this gun. Your friends at Full Assault tactical.

beautifully done, Wish I would have seen this before I wen crazy trying to find old rit dye! That came out great. Did you use any polyurethane on it after? That's the problem Im having at the moment with mine, the poly feels dry but when I run my finger across it, it leaves a swipe that looks wet or greasy. I know its not my hands because I wash them before I touch the finish.

look pretty good. I'm not a fan of it being that dark red but to each his own. I have an O-PAP also and am going to be refinishing it really soon, but without the stain. If you want it to look even better then what you did, use the 0000 steel wool in between coats of clear and it will look 10 times better. after the final coat of clear dries, take the 0000 steel wool to it one more time. After that take some automotive polishing compound to it and polish it smooth. You want to talk about a great finish. Trust me I did it to an old 22lr rifle and everyone that has seen it loves it.

***** Hey Emtyree, Thank you for watching the Video on our Ak47 O-pap, to answer your question on what is on my magazine release, it is called a bullet button, it keeps rifles legal to own in the state of California, it is a lock that holds the magazine in place and it cannot be removed unless you use a tool. Hope that clears that up for you. Feel free to subscribe to the channel, we will have more videos and updates on this Rifle and a few others as the year progresses.

@fullassaulttactical
@fullassaulttactical 10 жыл бұрын
jugado219 Hey there, Thank you for commenting on our AK47 O-PAP Video, To Answer your question, the simple answer is yes you can change the color anytime you want. You can sand it down which will remove a bunch of material off of your wood. The Method I would recommend, is to chemically remove the finish, there are many quality wood strippers out there, I wont endorse one product over another. But once you get the finish off just follow our Video and re-stain your clean wood. Thank you. Feel free to Subscribe and share with your friends., we will have many more Videos on this gun and many others.

A little too reddish for me. I have used WATCO Danish Oil in the past, dark walnut color with fabulous results on various firearm stocks. Usually two, possibly three coats will do the trick, using 40 steel wool in between coats with the final coat of Tong Oil for a sealer coat. If a really shinny look is desired, use Jewelers Rouge on a soft cloth and rub, rub, and rub until you get the result you are looking for. Quality work has its quality results.

for a yugo, id strip the wood and leave it unfinished. Or better yet, pickup balkan wars used wood from apex firearms. Yugo AKs went to the field with unfinished wood, and got its colors from years of gunpowder stains, mud, sweat and diesel exposure.

IMO, I like the original finish better. Again, just my opinion, but by the time you apply 6 coats of red-ish/brown-ish stain, you can't see the natural wood grain anymore and the finish reminds me of a plastic toy gun.
