1) how did i miss this series way back when 2) where have such minds of clarity & purpose gone? ...social media might not be the place, for by design it cannot encompass the breadth of great ideas expanded over time. beyond initial flashes of novelty lie journeys with hills, valleys, caves, peaks & vistas beyond compare... 3) thanks for the share & reminder than great minds still exist, pondering topics off "popular culture" & deep in niche gardens of extraordinary flora TLDR, media of the common type pales in comparison to a good lecture, book, or meditation...

I recently gotten serious about drawing, Despite wishing I started years ago when I was younger and had time,,, But no more regrets, no more self guilt-trapping, I am going to learn and learn. I was happy finding Bridgman's books last week, And I thought learning them would feel lonely but your video and future series(for me) will help a lot Doubt you read comments at all but thanks.

Hello Marshall I hope this message finds you well. I'm a big fan of your work, and I've been following your tutorials for quite some time. Your expertise in character design is truly inspiring. I've been struggling with creating character turnarounds, especially when it comes to understanding shapes and forms in three dimensions. I find it challenging to maintain consistency from various angles and dynamic perspectives . Every time I attempt a turnaround, I find myself stuck and confused, particularly with aspects like the length and shape of the chin and nose from a side view. Maintaining consistency becomes a significant challenge, and my characters end up looking different from various angles. Please make a corse on that Considering your mastery in character design, I would love to see a course from you that focuses on this aspect-guidance on understanding shapes and forms in 3D and ensuring character consistency from any angle. Your insights into drawing and thinking about these details would be immensely valuable. I believe many artists, including myself, would greatly benefit from your expertise in breaking down the complexities of character and animal turnarounds. Your unique teaching style could provide a solid foundation for artists struggling with similar challenges

Deepak, The closest I have to that is in some of the Bridgman sessions, particularly session 5 at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b593iN1kq724goE.html But you are already learning one important thing - that it is - by attempting it! There must be videos by pros who take you through complete turnarounds, one step at a time, but I do not know of them. If anyone reads this and can send Deepak to a resource, do! Some 3D modeling helps. Deepak, you may want to ask the question on a platform (like the Proko forum) where others are seeking the same info. I'm not sure that an intro to story video like this is your best forum for the horizontal technicalities of character turnarounds!

There's a guy named Chommang-he does not explain much what he does (perhaps because it's been too ingrained in his mind and tracing back his knowledge is a mountain effort), but you can pick up a lot of things from him by just watching him.

during the exercises portion of this when you say "do a few things with it" do you mean variations on? meaning like , study it once, then variate, or do the same thing 6 times in the times allotted? i love Heinrich kley btw. was a good vid, will check out the others.
@MarshallVandruffVideos
@MarshallVandruffVideos 4 ай бұрын
Variations... sure! But if you have a hankering to try a single thing over and over to "get it the rightest you can", do that. That exercise is to get you past doing it in a teacher-prescribed way, and tapping into however you want to play!

Marshal where have you been all my life. This is the kind of teaching that I prefer, a teacher that teaches not how to do things but what to look for and how to learn things. I really appreciate this class, been replaying again and again for a month now.

Thank you - I hoped this would help and I appreciate your appreciation. Regarding where I have been all your life? Teaching in classrooms in California, not recording them, and neglecting the likes of you all here. But I hope to be online more often, hence this and Gumroad, and I hope to do more in the coming year. Thanks!

@@MarshallVandruffVideos Looking forward to your future boot camps, and hope I can enroll in one. I'm glad your 1994 perspective class got recorded accidentally, so we forgive you for your negligence (just kidding), it was a treasure, learned intuitive perspective in 3 days, and after that Scot Robertson's book made more sense, I was able to skip some pages since it was derived under the same principles that you taught. This type of class is the grass-fed meat equivalent source of protein for art, takes time to digest but is full of macros, building my art muscles slowly but naturally. Never got a chance to afford or go to art school, also I'm from a third-world country, so for me, this class and your book recommendations are truly wonderful. As the kind of student who hates school but loves learning, I Can't thank you enough. Keep it up, Maestro.

Thank you for the kind words. I am trying to do more, but it all depends on how to make a living with it. Do help me spread the word on those Gumroad videos - they are the mainstay for now until I can get the new courses ready.
@PlumaDelConde
@PlumaDelConde 5 ай бұрын
@@MarshallVandruffVideos Surely, will spread the word. Unfortunately, this type of content won't sell, people nowadays want short videos that they can consume but don't digest properly, this type of content is a vegetable in a Candyland given all the content out there, to them, this video is TLDR. This is why Proko's business model works really well. Stan hooks with candy (free short youtube videos) while slowly mixing vegetables (long courses and critiques) into the meal, he can make his student grow effectively while earning a profit. Also, you lack presence online, I found you through the Draftsmen podcast which is awesome, if I'm not wrong, most of your leads are probably coming only from the Draftsmen podcast and former student recommendations. You and Nathan Fowkes are both awesome, but you two take time to find online for new people, which creates a problem where I've already spent my money on other not-so-worthy classes which instead I could have spent or donated on yours. Hope this insight helps you grow your business more. But please take it with a grain of salt, I'm no expert in online marketing.

I had the complete guide on my shelf for decades now (the yellow one) I didn’t understand a single thing he wrote back when I bought it. Have been getting back into drawing lately, just for fun - lots of trees. Somehow ended up again at drawing boxes, got interested in anatomy and re-read the first 20 or so pages, then drew along with what he wrote and suddenly it all makes sense. It’s as if he wrote it in a way that FORCES you to think about it, and by actively thinking about it, you’re learning much better. But some passages are hard to understand for a non native speaker, so I came looking if someone took apart the book. Your video is tremendously helpful! I will try to get as far as possible in my own, and watch when there’s a language barrier again.
