I was disappointed in this movie. It's been a while since I watched the first one and I wasn't as much a fan of it as other people it but I appreciated what it was trying to do. This sequel seemed to simplify the concept somehow but it felt very 'by the numbers'. The whole concept of the emotions having a life of their own is imaginative but the way it played out was very simplistic and uninspired.

I am sorry you did not find any redeeming qualities about The Night of the Hunter. I am an admirer of classic films. I have seen this movie many times. I truthfully cannot find fault with the film. There are many who have analyzed this film both from professionals and nonprofessionals alike. From showing good and evil can reside in man, to greed being one's god to the extent of murder. How the community could only see a good man based on being a man of the cloth. To the music's haunting score, and the shadowing noir photography. For me the acting with Lillian Gish from the silent period, to Robert Mitcham who could scare anyone in this film no matter how many times one views this films.. Thank you for reading.😊

I thought this movie was rather great - really flew under my radar so I went into it with cero expectations. Gave me Michael Hanekes "Funny games"- vibes, wich also upset a lot of people. People are just way to programmed into thinking a good movie has to have a happy endinng, that the wrongdoers should have faced justice! And beacuse that didnt happen this movie cant be good? The comment-section makes me think the averge moviegoers consists of adult kids. A movie like this is a huge risk and I applaud Blumhouse for daring to produce it and Beth de Araújo for writing it. 4 of 5.

I think your perception is very narrow. This movie is nothing like Funny Games. Haneke in that film is restricting the audience from indulging in violence on screen and poses the question why do we as a society have such a fascinating with violence. He only showcases the brutality that must be shown in order to get his point across. This movie is an hour and a half of racists being racist. The movie doesn't have any other interesting commentary other than "racism is bad". Not saying you can't make a movie solely commentating on the horrors of racism, but this movie provides nothing outside of talking points and racist remarks we see in elements of day to day life. This film provides nothing more. So I suppose if you want a film that is just blunt with nothing more thoughtful to provide, I suppose this works.

@@natesfilmreviews I think YOUR perception is narrow but thats ok - were all different. ;) I belive this movie says a lot about racism - I do not - at all - think this movie "provides nothing at all". Its artistic, well acted, and stays with you a long while after the credits roll, wich is more than you can say about your averege popcorn feelgood, everything solved conveniently the end-type of film you normally gets served.
@natesfilmreviews
@natesfilmreviews Күн бұрын
@Hauerization I'm curious as to what you think it provides that is deeper than just "racism is bad." The movie exists only to provoke anger and not thought. There is nothing deeper to unravel. It exists solely to pull a visceral immediate reaction and then just continues that reaction for 90 minutes. It just simply shows that evil exists and you don't need 90 minutes to explore that simple idea.

@@natesfilmreviews Just the unusual type of film brings something new to the table - I have honestly never seen anything like it. From an artistic standpoint alone, its worth a watch, let alone what you take away from it. The creepy, depressing end goal is not what makes the movie - its the journey there.

What the film doesn't exactly tell you during the height of the territory system (from the late 40's to early 80's) there were 44 different wrestling territories. There were 4 promotions out in Texas (based in Amarillo, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston) and depending where you were in Texas you would only get that one promotion on the television. The WWF territory ran DC into Maine. Therefore controlling the large market. Also another thing that the film tells you that there was another brother that was cut largely due the director's belief that the audience could only handle so much.

Interesting. I wonder if I enjoyed this more becuse of all the fae lore. I knew what they were pretty quick into the story and the window/mirror thing is something my wife always tells me not to do at night lol. I did feel like the final act fell a little short for sure. But I haven't read it he book so I can't say what was original or not. But the exposition dump was there to explain the lore a bit but also to hint that that person knew a lot for a reason. Hope that isn't too much of a spoiler for a comment. I didn't care about the main character's introduction or how they showed her as " lost". But I didnt hate the film at all.

I really loved the idea of the movie, but as far as the exposition it was way too much. Especially when she first arrived. You can make out so much of what's going on through the visuals. It's a bummer because I thought the fae lore was really cool!

I dont know why but for some reason I love this movie even though “on paper” its a snoozefest. Something about Dafoe’s improv putting himself in the headspace of what it would really be like to be trapped in this environment jumped off the screen and made such an immersive experience. It could be because I love these type of isolation survival movies and I love any performance by Dafoe, but yea, for me this movie is way better than it has “any right to be” and was my favorite of last year without question.

@@natesfilmreviews Exactly, its a script only Dafoe could have pulled off. Here’s the way I look at it: This movie went really under the radar but the reviews I saw seemed kind of “love it or hate it”, but the one thing that was consistent was that there was a buildup to a twist without an actual twist. But, it seemed like that was kind of what they were going for- the twist was that there is no twist. Definitely could have been executed better but I see what they were trying to do, theres so many ways to look at the themes of this movie but they are trying to say in a desperate or existential situation we often look for a deeper meaning or another way to look at things rather than facing them for what they are. Someone who reviewed this film mentioned that it would be really interesting as a live/broadway type performance, I think it could really be interesting in that format, or at least something that takes inspiration from this film and brings it to the stage. Definitely check out Trapped (2016) with Rajkumar Rao when you are able, it has a lot in common with this film and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s where Inside’s director got a lot of his ideas.

Don’t lump religious and right wing together. Some religious people are not right wing. Some right wing people are not religious. Further, many - not some - but many religious people just want to be left alone and don’t see the world as black and white and can appreciate art even when it comes off sinful. This is a common mistake people who are not religious make. It is not about simply following a set of rules and checking boxes but developing and cultivating a relationship with God as the imperfect vessels we are. I am a Christian and conservative, but I can appreciate the talent Ghost has. It is just not that simple.

@gboni66 I'm sure some people can feel that way and you can believe whatever you want, but as someone who grew up in the church and was raised by a minister the entirety of conservative ideology is rooted in Christian ideals and only exist because of the faith. @@natesfilmreviews while i agree that religion does play a key role in melding a worldview that attempts to preserve tradition, preservation of tradition isn’t reliant on religion. I won’t invalidate your experience in it, but it seems like we might have experienced church in two completely different areas. Not everyone who goes to church is conservative let alone inclined to lean politically right. And several tenets of a right leaning perspective have nothing to do with religion.

I saw this. I wanted to hear more than I'd heard on the radio and see if I'd ever wanna go to a show. As Ghost seems to be a very hyped band these days. I can say the musicians are top tier players and they make what they do look easy. Their sound makes me think of a blend of ABBA and Metallica. Pop leaning, yet heavy in parts, but some songs are lullaby like to me too (there's lots of keyboards at times). I actually dosed off a couple times during the movie, but the movie is pretty long and I was tired going in. There were more fans than I expected where I saw the movie, mainly because country music fans are abundant where I live. I did talk to some fans on the way out who said they traveled a ways to see the movie though. I noticed a lot of female fans and some couples, and like those in the movie, couldn't tell if the guys were fans of the band or there to support the girlfriends. But the fans were quieter than I thought they'd be as well. The fans I spoke to said the movie was very much the same show they'd seen in concert. So I'm glad I saw the movie instead, cause it wasn't really my cup of tea in the end.
