She was doing the classic sizing you up and swimming around you whilst getting slowly closer to you , that is predatory behaviour. All sharks are ambush and opportunistic predators . She would not go for an attack unless you were unaware of her and she could attack without being noticed or if she thought you were close enough for a chance . I guarantee if you would have stayed long in the water her behaviour would have gotten more threatening.

I've never considered that a clean shark might be a more thoughtful / docile one. Interesting.

Very shark smart to be able to gauge her demeanor. She obviously was not in hunting mode or you wouldn't have seen her until it was too late. She heard the boat motor and decided to see what that low frequency was and had a look. She was a gorgeous specimen, no mating scars yet either! She proably just reaching maturity and no doubt if she survives another year, will be pregnant and birthing her pups out in the nursery at Port Stephens or 90-mile.
