In Miami a lot of people only speak Spanish and make no attempt to speak English. So what? Without the tourists and the Expats , the economy of SanMiguel de Allende would not be thriving. Don’t judge people by the language they speak. Good Lord you are negative.

Visiting Mexico city soon, solo traveling. Want to go out here one day. Is it that easy to tag along with other tourist groups? Id happily pay for half the time and some drunks along the way. But worried about going all the way there and not finding a group to tag along.

I’m not sure about finding another group to tag along. It may be difficult. But you could post on some of the Facebook groups like “Foreigners in CDMX” or “Americans in CDMX” to see if you could plan something.

Definitely agree with you on that. There’s a well known artist from Spain who gained more popularity in Mexico for signing with Mariachi and tons of Mexican anthems. She was in California at a Mexican restaurant where the cook happens to be Mexican and so the servers etc. Her name is Natalia Jiménez and is a huge figure in the Latino Industry. Well, at the restaurant she was at she took a call from her daughter in Miami and started a conversation in Spanish with her when she was asked to leave the restaurant simply because she was speaking Spanish and because the fat ladies next to her told the manager they couldn’t stand her. So Natalia left and returned at a different date with serenatas for the whole restaurant with Mariachi and told her fans to never visit such place. Incredible that still happens, if that happens in California the most Mexican state in the USA don’t wonder what could happen in Virginia, Tennessee Virginia, Arkansas and Alabama. Probably we would get killed lol 😅 You reminded me Texans that look Mexican but you know they are only Texans when they look at us with such a disgust and hatred when they see us in Texas speaking Spanish lol 😂

Stop teasing him lol 😂 I am the one with indigenous roots not him lol 😂 I would love to get Poncho’s phone number but most guys in the community always look for teenagers to even start a friendship which I hate cuz I am not a teenager and I don’t like kids.

Like me, most indigenous people are smooth and with very thick and abundant dark hair but no hair on face nor body. Poncho is clearly mixed.

I am from Oaxaca and came to the USA under a scholarship to pursue my M.A and later on got another one more to pursue my Ph.D. As far as I know, the Olmecs are as old as the Mexicas. However, not the Mexicas nor the Olmecs built Teotihuacán. There were even older civilizations we lost track of. The Aztecs, Zapotecs and Mixtecs ( among others) are the lasted civilizations before the European conquest. I am a Mixtec and still preserve my mother tongue which is Mixteco. But I also speak four more languages. Would you mind letting me know what’s the name of the background music that was playing through this clip? Thanks a bunch and look forward to hearing from you! Enjoy Oaxaca and eat a lot of quesillo for me. I miss it a lot! Best cheese on earth!

The music in the first half of the video is called Udub (PablenoRemix- instrumental) by Ali Dhaanto. Later in the video, it’s Cloudlands by Molife. Both are from Epidemic Sound. There is a link in the description below of the video. I loved Oaxaca and hope to return soon! Cheers!

There is a perverse trend that comes from the strong influence of North American progressivism and the black lives matter movement in which they try to take over Mexican cultural icons by saying that they were black or Afro-descendant when in reality that is not true. While it is true that there were African slaves in New Spain, it is also true that it was a small period of time and few in number... they are to date an almost non-existent ethnic minority. Furthermore, it must be understood that the new Spain was not like the British colonies, in Mexico the races and ethnicities mixed and integrated into society to the point where we will hardly find truly black African descendants in Mexico... they have all been mixed. Morelos's mother is Creole, the daughter of Spaniards born in America (the continent, not the country), Additionally, going to study at a seminary was something that only the rich Spaniards, Creoles or mestizos could afford, it would be difficult for an African caste to live in wealth. For the ignorant, seeing Morelos with a "bandana" on his head is to hide his curly hair, which is ridiculous, there would be no reason to use it since black people were already free centuries ago and horsemen actually used it to absorb sweat. of the head and cool off a little, it was also worn under the hat to avoid messing up one's hair, it is something very typical of the Apatzingán region, where the heat is very high and where Morelos lived as a knight. Now for the foreigner who does not know Mexico, there are indigenous ethnic groups with features similar to Africans but without having black skin, they are dark, brown and have straight hair, you can see it with the Olmecs, Otomíes, etc. and it is normal for them to think that they are of African descent but that is false. Furthermore, Morelia was a town formed by white Europeans who did not want to live near the Pátzcuaro Indians... they were families of ancestry, Spanish or descendants of these. In Morelia or the new Valladolid there were no African or Afro-descendant slaves. The only one who could have been of African descent was Vicente Guerrero, he is seen in portraits with curly hair, even dark skin. Furthermore, he lived in Acapulco, a port city with the presence of Africans in the conquest... even so, Vicente Guerrero would be a mestizo even if a little of his DNA was African, the races were already too mixed to speak of an Afro. This type of cultural appropriation of the black race is being carried out by many North Americans who visit Mexico and associate everything with North American reality and history, but in Mexico colonization was very different, miscegenation was very strong and Mexican blacks did not experience what Same as the Americans, the context is very different and even opposite. In Mexico, before the progressive fashions of the USA, you could say to an Afro "black" in front of him and no one took it as an insult, he was not offended... the abolition of slavery in Mexico existed since independence and that It cost us Texas and half of the territory... because there were white Americans there who did not want to free their black slaves...
@GringoInterrupted
@GringoInterrupted 20 күн бұрын
My tour guide showed us the family lineage of Morelos in which was found African ancestors. Of course, he was mixed. The definition of Afro Mexican is ambiguos, as is African American, whose ancestors were often white slave owners. But aren’t all attempts at defining “race” rather troublesome? Perverse? I don’t think it’s perverse that we point out the black blood that runs through some of our heros’ veins, even if it was just a little. Its representation. Blacks were not permitted in the priesthood. Perhaps Morelos knew of his roots, and hid it. We’ll never know. On the Oaxaca/Guerreo coast there are communities of “Afro Mexicans”, specifically Cuajinicuilapa. Yes, the histories of the U.S. and Mexico regarding blacks are very different. I think anyone interested in this topic knows that as well. Recognizing that some historical figures had black ancestry is important. Representation is important.
