Intetesting. Did it stick with contact cement or some other adhesive?

The issue I have with this is that the legs are too short. If you were to set up a light with a softbox, it looks like it will tip over easily.

I'm curious to know how you would handle an auto level feature like that on the Zoom H1n, I defaulted when I got the device to using it because I liked the idea that it would adjust the gain for dynamic sounds on the fly, but I find it brings up a lot of the H1n's inherent noise floor into the recording, and based on how it adjusts the gain, I think it will constantly be listening for differences in perceived volume so I'm trying to think of a scenario where this feature might be more desirable.

This is interesting. I have no interest in buying any of your sounds since I have no interest in using sounds. I record sounds as a hobby and follow you to simply see the "how, why, where and what with" to improve my sound recording 'ability'. Anything I do record (and process) I upload to freesound. I simply enjoy the 'doing' part - both recording and post processing - then get a kick out of seeing how many times my sfx (not tried ambience yet) get downloaded.
@davidh11876 күн бұрын
How do you remove the rubbing trouser leg sound in the initial walk around or is that just part of the sfx?

@FreeToUseSounds7 күн бұрын
Hi Dieter! Thank you so much for reaching out! Yes, the H4n is still a great recorder and you don't need to buy a new one. If you get a nice stereo set and good wind protection, that's all that matters to start with. The CM 300 is great but quite noisy. We have the Metal Marshmallow, which is unbelievably quiet for a contact microphone. We made a couple of shorts and IG reels with it. It's pricey but definitely worth it.

Soma simply behaves like a radio receiver with a tuner knob and volume control - by touching the antenna you are simply 'retuning' it. You could get the same result removing the antenna from you AM/FM radio and plugging that into your recorder.

I’m using an H6, do I need to use an XLR adapter with this (I’m assuming yes)? I’m in the early stages of experimenting with different microphones.
@FreeToUseSounds8 күн бұрын
Hi! No you don't because the H6 has a dual XLR port.

@@FreeToUseSounds 🤣 - no sorry :-) just wanted to mention it. Listened to many videos here on the channel - so great and i am getting actually deeper into field recording as I am often in nature. Fortunately I can re-use my equipment that I bought when I did some wedding films.

You're videos are just the best also question...Why do you record in 3 minute blocks any particular reason?
@FreeToUseSounds8 күн бұрын
Hi Justin, oh yes. That way we can record more in different places. Different locations, different sounds and sometimes we’re not long enough in one place.
@davidh11879 күн бұрын
My hearing is not the greatest and probably damaged over the years and with age (particularly the higher frequencies) but one thing I have noticed with your recordings is a lot of low end (low frequency) 'rumble' or is it just my hearing?
@FreeToUseSounds8 күн бұрын
Hi David. That’s probably the nature of the wind protection . The rumble could come either from the cables or wind protection. We don’t do much editing in order to present authentic sound recordings.

I've always wanted to ask you if you've ever recorded a pipe organ? Their dynamic range is wide and can over drive a recorder if you don't monitor them. How 'bout a full orchestra? It can get VERY loud.

Its handy having electronics as another hobby - I already have all the parts except the specific OpAmp - will experiment with a 'standard' OpAmp I have in my parts boxes.
@davidh118710 күн бұрын
I have enjoyed sound recording on and off for more than 15 years now but the trouble with age is that I lose frequency's - I couldn't (clearly) hear the interference you were talking about (too high and beyond my range now I assume). Makes me wonder if I am wasting my time sound recording now....
