congrats on nailing that B section. I have isolated that and slowed it down 100's of times and yours is the closest to what he is playing that I have seen.

You can hear the bum notes on the isolated tracks at the start. It's even worse live. As a guitarist that recently switched to the bass, his hand position is playing the bass like a 6 string and would likely damage the index finger/hand if he was playing anything more than rudimentary basslines.

All so complicated was Jameson notes structure. Was a big part of all those classic Motown songs. His playing was so mesmerizing. I actually started learning to play bass by listening to those old Motown 45 records on my record player. It’s so incredible to think Jameson playing “Darlin’ Dear” with the hook (the one finger). If he’s not in the Rock Hall Of Fame, he and the rest of those legendary musicians at Motown from that era should be. Those guys help influence the whole music culture in the period in beyond.

Upright players tend to use a lot of open strings to help them play in tune on the fretless instrument. Jamerson also tended to use a lot of 6ths.

I've always been amazed at JPJ's basslines. It's what I focus on most, usually. Just phenomenal.

Everyone calls Cliff Williams a simple player. I dont think so. Some of the most seemingly simplist ACDC basslines like Shot Down in Flames after the solo you dont even know if you are in time anymore. But it sounds so good and probably as important as Malcolm while Angus plays the solo then accentuale 1 note along with the guitars and your forearm is tarting to damn near burn and cramp then you get to play the chorus. Two different ways. But that simple bass line is the song. Cliff Williams was the perfect Rock and Roll bassist in my opinion. No funk or jazz just Rock and Roll laying 1/8ths down under the guitars.

this was super big help! i already knew some of the tips here but the thumb position one and the counterbalance were game changers, i appreciate this video a lot ! for someone who can only afford being self-taught and i don't have much people to ask about either if i'm fretting correctly, i finally resolved the issue where my tendon would hurt a lot even if i wasn't exerting much effort on pressing down the frets. most people do talk about the thumb being placed at certain positions but i guess anywhere is fine as long as you're getting the technical parts done and you're comfortable :>
