I know its heresy to the purists, I get it. But I like to clean dirty milsurp wood with Eezy Off oven cleaner. A couple 30 minute applications followed by a complete spray with vinegar to neutralize the base. Then hang up to dry for couple days. Most all of the dirt and grease are gone. No sanding required.

I dont want to be a debbie downer, but it seems were coming to the last gasp of the CMP rifle sales. The options keep dwindling for garands and they just said they're releasing the last of the bolt actions they'll ever have. To anyone reading this, if you can please order something from the CMP while you have the chance. These are the modern "good old days" of being able to buy a WW2 rifle and have it shipped to your front door. If you don't you will regret it. Been a CMP customer for a while now, and they've always done me right. Anyway, doom scrolly rant over, good video! Good to see what the rifles are looking like coming out now. Keep up the good work!

Hi!! Thanks for the video. I am Portuguese, and I love this country's early XX Century guns. Specially Mauser rifles and "our" Lugers. I even have books about these 2. In fact, yours is very good. I was in our regular army, but even back then, Mausers were gone. I knew them as I am guns lover since I remember myself. I got 2 parts from a 98K. They were lost under a furniture where I did most of my service (1985/6). Our National Republican Guard (G.N.R.)still uses this on parades, and similar occasions. As far as I know, we can not have them legally. Enjoy it for yourself and me as I can not, please!!

Beautiful rifle! As a swiss guy my hearth always fills with joy when one of these rifles gets a new home with someone that enjoys them. I pick them up whenever I find them below 500 CHF (USD). Yours seems to be a very nice early version, the serial number buts it in 1934 (second year of production) where only 15k where made in that batch! Are you planing on shooting it? I had mine on the 280y range just yesterday! Awesome video, looking forward to more.

It's a big gamble on these for bore condition. But so far I have been lucky. So long as the bore is good, no damage (locking lugs, bulged barrel, etc) and it passes gauging should be good to go. Worst case you get plenty of cheap parts. If looking for more of a guarantee I'd check local shops or auction sites. You can usually find a good deal if you are patient and aren't looking for anything special manufacture or date wise.

@tfusilier44
@tfusilier44 19 күн бұрын
Just luck of the draw. All my C Grades have required replacement stock parts so they are definitely project guns. If by "high grade" you mean you ordered an Original grade with a hand select and it arrived in worse condition than one of my C grades then that's not cool. I recommend you contact RTI about that.

How are you able to pull the charging handle back so easily? Mine takes the strength of a gorilla. TNW built mine and it never did fire without problems. I had them work on it several times, always taking years to complete. The last time it came back, they bent the feed tray. It still won't fire without jamming. I have an expenisve paperweight.

When I first got it I had that issue. The problem for me was the bolt. The little wire ring that keeps the sear ring that holds the firing pin and spring in place. The channel for the wire ring was cut too shallow so the ring was popping out. So they had to recut the channel deeper for it to stay put. Never had that problem again.
