You are spinning the main rotor blade backwards look at the airfoil if we’re gonna demonstrate something do it, right

How does the stick control pitch and roll? This isn't like a helicopter is it?
@Bobm-kz5gp2 күн бұрын
You confuse pilots or want to be auto gyro pilots, spining 2:35 the rotor blades backwards in your demo is confusing? Otherwise it’s a good training film. I like that old saying, ‘Hail Seizure! Those who are about to die salute salute you!”

Nice. You need to zip up your hip belts down tight before you tension up the shoulders...if you have an accident like you have them here you'll just slide out under and forward...

Just a comment about the accident video at the end, one reason for the rotor mismanagement was they got in a hurry because a plane was coming in and there was some discussion about who should be occupying the runway. I was told this by someone who was present. It was in CR. Take your time and do it right!

Thank you for the safety advice above the blades being to far back or forward and to use the cyclic in the proper way im just started on flight training here in the UK on autogyros, thanks again, Peter

Being that gyros do not have driven rotors wouldn't it be a lot safer to not have a pre-rotor or a brake? If anything goes wrong and jams up you'll lose rotor speed and die. The teeter bolt is a shockingly small diameter. Being that if any one of those bolts fail you are dead scares me. Also not a lot of material around the teeter bolt. BTW I work in aerospace manufacturing, and it still scares me how small the bolts are for that job.

Instead of slipping, trying to correct to level flight and running out of cyclic I would think a way to make a correction would be to power on and come around in a circle in the direction of the roll then you can level out and land straight.
@arcanondrum65435 күн бұрын
No, the first input must be opposite Rudder; Right Roll? Right Rudder. Power on first would increase thrust on a Rudder that Ron said, was pushed to the left, increasing the yaw and the roll.

So why....(after asking everyone with no answer yet) are there no 3 blade shorter span rotors on gyro's that smooths out the retreating blade effects as well as reduced the rotor disk drag and stick shake? Aren't gyro's so slow due to the huge disk area of a floppy 27' rotors? Why not smaller diameter 3 blade?
@SpeedDemonExpress2 ай бұрын
A three blade rotor will not work because it will not teeter properly. It would need a variable pitch rotor head like a helicopter. At that point just fly a helicopter instead.

The largest problem I have researched is negative g push over. The blades become unloaded and you drop like a rock.

You are a wonderful instructor!.... I have over 5,000 hours of military helo flying, yet I SO ENJOY your manner of Gyro instruction, Ron. Your emphasis on the flying "Caviots" will certainly save lives!!

I have over 5,000 hours in helo's, yet your Gyrocopter admonition concerning starting blade rotation 90 degrees to the runway, and then, perhaps, inadvertently tilting the rotors downwind, just never occurred to me that it might very well cause the gyrocopter to tip over on its side!! I learned a VERY VALUABLE LESSON TODAY!! .....I learned a LOT of other things, as well, just from your one training session!! You are a SUPERB INSTRUCTOR, Ron!!......Thanks for the training!! Question: RON,...To prevent blade flap, why wouldn't you gain some degree of forward airspeed, BEFORE releasing your pre-rotor engagement. That way, moving the blade disk to the rear, WHILE ALREADY HAVING A DEGREE OF FORWARD AIRSPEED,.... WOULD PREVENT BLADE FLAP? Would it not be a better way, as a procedure?

That was the most thorough Gyro brief I ever witnessed. If I was a POW and the only mean of escape was a Gyro, I feel like I can fly gyro just based on the video.

Hi Ron, Thank you for this video. I was not aware that you should not slip a gyroplane. As a private pilot with many hours in a short wing piper with no flaps I have literally become the king of slipping. When I eventually start gyro training I will have to make absolutely certain that I unlearn that habit! Great video!

You said you would prerotate up to 325rpm yet you started the takeoff roll at 250 rpm. Will the brakes not hold you to prerotate to 325?

Some errors in this video, refer to installation instructions for proper procedures.

What errors ?? Be specific ! He already told you he doesn't have a manual. This kind of comment is very annoying and unhelpful to anyone installing a DUC Prop ! Either F. Off or make a comment that is productive and helpful or comment again stating what you believe to be the issues.
