The other thing about her DP is that it was a near universal ender that guranteed oki with 623L>236M, letting you end in an easy oki setup which led into high/low or forced -1 BP to guard cancel and escape. Now most players are forced to do alternate routes that either cost more stocks, sacrifice frame advantage, and/or do less damage. I think most people that stuck to Nier now do something like 2H>236M which has worse frame advantage for high/low. The cancelable reversal was the most overt issue because no one raw throws wakeup in this game, but being able to always high/low off any combo really killed a lot of her combo variety since any of them could end in strong oki, so in the end it just became which did the most damage. Now you actually have to route for the oki you want. It's a huge change despite being deceptively small.

The dash attack change is pretty interesting. Looking at Nier for example (a character notorious for spamming 66L), the situation after block changes considerably. Pre-patch, her go-to option after 66L used to be c.M (safe, hit-confirmable, combos if the 66L hit, true frame-traps if the 66L was blocked, leads to max damage combos on hit, the threat of multiple cancel options after c.M can help her get away with c.M > 66L for looping pressure). That sequence of 66L > c.M essentially played the game for her and there was little reason for her not to press it after every 66L. But post-patch, if she ends up outside of c.X range, her decision of what to do post-66L is much more difficult. 66L > 5M has an 8-frame gap, which loses to quick moves like Katalina 2M. 66L > 2M is tighter, but a 2M counterhit is much less valuable than a c.M because it's difficult to hit-confirm, demands an immediate special move right afterwards, and leads to worse damage than c.M combos gave her. Regardless, if either 2M or 5M is blocked, her turn is over. There's essentially nothing threatening for her to do after a blocked far normal. The result seems to be (in most cases) an RPS situation where the defender blocking 66L chooses to either mash 2L or continue blocking, with the idea that 2L is likely to beat pressure reset options whereas blocking a far normal will end the attacker's pressure. For the attacker, the choice is either to reset pressure with a forward dash or 66L hoping the defender turtles, or to time a far normal to counterhit the defender's 2L. This decision tree tells us that the person who used 66L is still advantaged, but it is now more difficult for them to continue their pressure if the defender guesses correctly in the interaction immediately after 66L.

A few notes from the worst Kat of all time: - I thought the new launch on 236H could nerf her corner routes too, but it seems to be a buff in most cases. At close range (e.g. after triple attack) doing 236H, c.H xx 214H, c.HHH xx 623L does about 200 more damage than the old corner BNB (kinda sad about this, the old optimal route used her 5U dash cancel and was fun to perform). Farther out (e.g. after 2LL xx f.L) swapping out the first c.H with f.H is still an improvement. - Midscreen 236H is much better now, letting you link f.H xx 214L/214H at most ranges. Before, Kat would have to settle for linking f.L xx 214H most of the time (the 2M link you show only worked on crouching opponents), now she gets more damage and can choose to keep her 214X cooldown for later. - Lower pushback on 236U is a modest buff, you can pick up with 66L from further out now, but at far range your best conversion is still dash 214U. - Not sure how good the 236U wallbounce is, it seems too low to use in combos and it's air blockable so I don't think you'll hit a raw airborne connect very often. If you do, running up and linking f.H is the best meterless route I can find but I'm probably missing something better. If you wanna dump meter, 236U into 236U into 214U also works.

2:20 I think this affects Nier 623M/H only, since Death is the one that has Super Armor and not her, so if you end up blocking her DP during the situation afterwards you get a little bit more damage from the flames during your punish.
