I'm rewireing a MK 530p Grounding issues. I'm using the original pickups. The neck pickup has been mo.dified for 3 wires ,but the bridge pickup also has 3 wires but the fender telecaster bridge pick up diagram shows a bridge pickup showing only 2 wires ( hot & ground) . So do I clip one wire or solder it to a pot? I have all new fender telecaster parts. (Not puckups.

Something I'd like to know, which every wiring vid seems to skip over,is what temperature do you operate you soldering iron at. Thanks. nice work.

not a pointless mod if you want to use the occasional fuzz pedal. fuzzes tend not to like treble bleed circuits, so having it be switchable is really useful.

On my project the alarm sounds when I place the multimeter on the lug of the volume pots that the selector cables are soldered to. Based on your video am I correct that it should not alarm?

? This tip did not solve my problem and I’m hoping that you would suggest something else. I just put together a diy kit with all new parts 4 CTS pots, and two humbuckers wired 50s style. I get sound from both pickups but very very low and only when the volume pot is all the way up. With a multi meter I have verified that everything is grounded, the pickups are at appropriate resistance (7-8k) and the capacitors are at about .23. I am at a loss to know what to do next. Thank you for your help.

Why not use a true balance pot? It loos like you are mixing more or less of one sound with the other sound(s) that is always at 100%. I think it is more versatile for the pot to be a dual control, such that it varies both tones (one goes up while the other goes down)...so you can get any combination from 100% of one & 0% of the other, to the reverse of that, & any combination of percentages in between.

Is it necessary to use 2 capacitors, one on each tone knob, with this switch? I just bought 1 with the switch, but then I saw this video. Thanks for any advice.

I know this is an old video but it was just what I was looking for. Will this work with a regular Fender 5 way switch? Meaning using the resistor method. The Fender switch doesn't have as many lugs

Thanks for a great video. I had cheap Squire that sounded like crap, had dead spots in the volume and tone knobs. I just rewired it with a bunch of help from your video. I had a question I hope someone could answer, more for curiosity sake. When I did the "screw driver test" from the video if the pickup selector was in a position activating 2 pickups one was significantly quieter than the other. I don't think I would ever notice playing the guitar. Thanks again for the video and to anyone who could shed a little light on this anomaly.

I worked in SMT for 34 years. Thermal linkage is a big factor when soldering like that. A bit of solder on the end of the iron creates more heat mass and will help heat up the parts to be soldered. Just a wee bit will do.

Thanks for this great tutorial. I have been wanting to try a blend control for some time, but didn't want to start on any of my high end guitars, so I picked up a $150 Spectrum Strat for $50 and had a zero load pot laying around. It was an easy procedure. I love the variety of sound and can't wait to use my new "Blended Blackie" at my next gig!

looked everywhere for the solution to the Tele SH wiring. 500k pot with a resistor between the single coil and switch. But if you're using a 3 way switch - what does each position give you?

This was awesome, very useful! To anyone doing this on an early 60s Fender bass, just be aware the body cavity route can be super narrow, and it can rub against those side grounds... ;-) (Shame I can't post pics...)

What kind of yellow tubing do I need to purchase to cover the wiring? Also whats the size and kind of the other black tubing to cover the braided wire? I'm trying to find it on Amazon and would love specifics so I know what I'm getting. This video was incredible by the way for helping me keep the wiring clean and tidy!! I hate nothing more than wiring that's all over the place!
