Dig your video. One of my go to movies franchises when I'm storming the gloomies...luv behind the scenes and commentary from creators. Thanks for sharing.

Dude elfangors story or ax’s story would be absolutely insane with current movie technology. And dude the hork-bajjir story would be insanity. One of the most out there thing I’ve ever read.

Why was this dark war story adapted without a budget in the 90s by Nickelodeon, they can’t even try to be accurate because parents would get pissed off and try to regulate kids books or something wrong like that.

I used to play this CONSTANTLY at summer camp after this movie came out. We would have so many people wanting to join in that we had to scrounge up styrofoam cups and steal dice from other board games so we would have enough

Weren’t these marketed to children, so shouldn’t it be middle grade and why’re we still making similar things to this and marketing them to children instead of teens?

Really enjoyed this video! As someone who doesn't gamble or play dice/card games, this helped a lot. I've watched this movie several times & this scene was always a bit confusing to me because I didn't understand how the game worked; I would get the jist just based off the emotion & dialogue but this allows me to understand the intricacies & nuances, so ty <3

One of my favorite things to do on the old H*R homepages was to hover over one of the main categories, hold down click, and then slide the mouse away before releasing the click. For whatever reason (if I'm remembering the process correctly) this resulted in the associated animation continuing to play even after you moused off it, so doing this repeatedly allowed you to activate every animation at once. It was fun!

Imagine a 65-part TV show, with no sugar-coating, no punches pulled, every book and chronicle in the main continuity made into its own episode. All the death, all the trauma, the war crimes, the tragedies, but also all the weird-ass side characters and species, like the Chee and the Helmacron and the Ellimist and Crayak. That would fucking slap.

But iirc Moriarty still own the bullet and the bandages company. He could just borrow some cash to keep all his company moving while wait. Sherlock cant do much unless he could prove that all the bombing and stuff was moriarty handiwork.

Regarding why Moriarty would bother to start a war early he thinks is inevitable, a single line about the expense of all the arms companies he's acquired would have clarified his ultimate objective of getting rich and powerful for its own sake. Until the war starts, Moriarty is absorbing losses from running war materiel companies that have no wars to supply. Moriarty's comment that he's super rich already and that the war he wants will happen without his intervention given enough time shows that's he's not so much after the profits supplying WW1 will provide, he just finds profiting from the suffering of millions an amusing intellectual diversion. He's what Holmes could accomplish if Holmes had zero qualms about other people, both personally or at large. That I think serves as a great foil to Holmes's antisocial behavior. Holmes may sometimes be a callous, asocial and eccentric asshole, but he deep down cares for individual people (Watson and Adler) and the world at large (saving it from Moriarty's machinations). I think the contrast is also setup in Holmes's self-destructive episodes. He would rather turn his idle mind to ridiculous experiments other people mock him for, while Moriarty's endeavors, while more technically useful and prestigious, are ultimately in service of his ego. A side note, but the next big war Britain would be involved in after the movie's set date of 1891 would not be World War 1, but the Second Boer War in 1898, Britain's most expensive and costly war up to that point, and one that permanently damaged British prestige. One of Arthur Conan's Doyle's most famous publications, probably his most famous after the Sherlock stories, was a history of that specific war.

Also even if he knew he lost the literal chess game, he was more interested in the actual mind game and stakes at hand, his shock comes from him humoring sherlock thinking he won the real thing, even if he lost a game of chess moves ago. As he probably knew that he lost the chess game but assumed he had still won in reality, all the while only humoring him in the chess game as Sherlock slowly reveals the reality of his loss both in chess and reality.

For Moriarty, even though he might think he’s unassailable until Sherlock reveals he knows the code, the message is that he will attack every piece Sherlock has, even after he loses. To him, even if his king is lost, Sherlock is going to lose those pieces. No matter what it takes. That’s the other message he says about Watson dying too. If he loses, everyone pays.

It’s fun that my own children enjoy the cartoons but it is unfortunate that they can’t enjoy them the way I did when they were new. My favorite Easter egg was simple, you could click on the Lappy 486 screen and it would do have the LCD distortion effect.

Interesting detail. When Holmes grabs and pulls Moriarty over the rail, he used the chess table as the brace for his feet to push him and Moriarty over. And I mean, sure, it was probably the only thing he could use for leverage, but in the spirit of overanalyzing, Holmes is using the very game they played as his means to ensure Moriarty's demise.

I used to have most of the Animorph transformers as they were always on clearance here in the UK or in the pound shops. Sadly Most have gone to car boot sales but I still have the ungodly mess that's the huge Ultra Class Visser 3, with the shootable claws and finger trap worthy joints.
