Glad it was warmer when you got home.. and I hope the lady at home was pleased with the soap. Here now it's awful again windy, raining and below average temperature again, this summer has been a washout and I do mean abysmal in every sense, it seems we had a mini heatwave when I was on the bike in Germany last week and as soon as I got back the weather seems to have deteriorated to what seems like autumn. Anyway, thanks for the video, the FJR is trucking on well at what seemed like fairly low revs on the carriageway too. Look forward to the next episode.

As I read this it's persisting it down in Paris. Not too chilly, about 15°, but still cold for the time of year! The FJR can cruise all day at 3,000 - 4,000 mark on the Autoroutes. I recently watched videos of a trip to Spain via France by two KZfaqrs in their respective cars. They were very impressed by the French autoroutes - no potholes, no roadworks and very little traffic - until they each got the eyewatering bill for the tolls. The Dartford Crossing experience has been much improved by the removal of the physical toll booths.

Richard, if you have time on your way to Italy, take the Route Touristique du Champagne from Chalons to Epernay, then south out of Epernay still following Route Touristique du Champagne to Sezanne then on to Villenauxe. It will take about 4 hours if you don't stop, but is well worth it. You can then go across to Troyes and onto the A26/A5 south towards Italy

Epernay itself is not very interesting except the Champagne Houses. If you have time, use the Route Touristique du Champagne south of Epernay. I'll see if I can find the route I usually take and send you the details though, you'll probably be heading towards the A26. Chalons-en-Champagne is OK. First trip was down to near Grasse and the 2nd was Brittany and then - for some reason - over to Luxembourg. Should have split that last one into 2 separate trips! That was all pre mobile phones & sat navs and even before the Tunnel. Getting a fully loaded BMW up the (wet & slippery) ferry ramp on the 2nd trip, I was grateful for having down a few years in Trials! No bike at present but starting to think about a run down to a place in Italy where my late Dad was in WW2. I'd be passing through France en-route, so this is invaluable. I don't suppose you do something similar for Italy and other countries??? 🙂 Subscribed.

I have a set of Perelli Angel GTs on my Honda NC750X and have got to say so far they perform very well and will use them on the NT when the time comes to change them out. . It amazing how tyres can completely alter the behaviour of a bike. When we only had Crossply tyres ( _when I were a lad_ 😁), my tyres of choice were Metzlers or, if not available, Continentals. Was it related to the anti moto policies of Mayor of Paris?
@riderramblings
@riderramblings 2 ай бұрын
No, not this time. This time we're demonstrating against the CT - Controle Technique (MOT) as it is basically a way for Dekra-Norisko to extract money from the millions of French motards for zero benefit in return. I haven't found a single Motorcycle Dealer who has signed up to become a test centre yet. They, and all the motorcycle mechanics I've spoken to are very against it for two main reasons: 1. Every time a moto is serviced a much more thorough check is made of the vehicle. 2. Most Motards do a check similar to the CT usually at least once a week. The FFMC (Motorcycling Federation) is asking that everyone boycotts Dekra-Norisko with all their vehicles, not just Motos.

@@riderramblings Thank you for the full explanation, seems you might be familiar with the MOT system in the U.K. £60 for a moto every year same for a car. Supposedly unsafe vehicles are removed from public roads but there are so many cars and probably motos without insurance, MOT and drivers without licenses, mainly banned. MOT required on third year of registration, system in place since 1960, no knowledge pre 1960. I’d be more concerned about the 35€+ daily parking fee for motos in Paris and limited moto parking spaces now that informal moto parking banned. Good luck with the protest manifestation.

They've been revolting for at least a couple if not more years now. They had succeeded until the Constitutional Court stepped in last year. The approach is three main vectors: 1. Demonstrations - Saturday about 100,000 "motards" blocked all the main cities and large towns in France. 2. Boycott - This is in three parts: A. getting anyone who owns a motorcycle to boycott the companies who lobbied for the Contrôle technique (Dekra-Norisko being the biggest I believe). Basically, if you own a car and a moto, don't have either "tested" at their centres. B. trying to persuade motards not to have a Contrôle Technique. This will hit the centres financially as they have had to invest in specialist equipment. As France has more motos than most of the rest of Europe, this could interesting. C. I haven't found a Motorcycle Dealer or independent mechanic, yet, who has signed up to be a test centre. 3. Informational. Getting the news out, on the TV and other media, about how pathetic the test is (which it is - nothing like the UK test), that it is just a money-making scheme. They had a Main Dealer on the TV today stating the every time a Moto is serviced, which is at least once a year for most of them, a much more thorough inspection of the vehicle is performed. I think that a typical French compromise will be reached. The requirement for a Contrôle Technique for motos will remain on the statute books but there will be no "punishment" for not having one done. Rather like carrying the Breathalyser kit... One Insurance Company is already advertising no penalty for the absence of a Contrôle Technique, in the event of an accident, provided your moto was roadworthy.

The only time I have issues with possible glasses fogging is during cold or cold and wet weather. When I say cold I mean WELL below freezing temps. In the USA I ride in temps as cold as -25C or even colder. Fogging is definitely an issue at those temps even without moisture in the air. I used to use a Pin-Lock insert but not any more. It's just an extra cost for me. If you don't wear glasses a Pin-Lock visor is excellent at keeping the visor from fogging up. But it does nothing for the glasses. At the temps I ride it's not very good to crack open the visor. What I use that works and has worked for the last 18+ years of riding in the cold is a simple snorkel. I inhale from air inside the helmet to draw in fresh air and exhale ONLY through the snorkel to prevent my breath from fogging up the glasses and visor. Works guaranteed every time. It's a simple snorkel made with a 5mm ID vinyl elbow and a short vinyl clear tube to fit it that exits just below the side of my helmet. I don't use a chin guard but in cold temp riding I do use a fleece neck gator. This setup has worked for me perfectly for the last 18+ years. When I use the snorkel I never have any fogging of visor or glasses and I keep my visor closed to keep it warmer and comfortable in those frigged temps.

I wish you happy Easter 🐣, it’s been well still pretty wet and windy , occasionally behind glass or out the wind it’s been very springlike , this weekend we’re to see temperatures mid to high teens (but gloomy and showers) … at the moment , glad to hear you got out on the fjr.. I have been out in both my bikes although I’m currently in the palms of the salesman at ducati contemplating a multistrada .. anyhow , great to hear from you and I hope the hot cross buns were a success .. what a bloody nice chap 👍

I hear the MultiStrada is a nice bike. According to one reviewer, just the indicator lights on the dashboard are impossible to see in bright sunlight - I could live with that. Have you had a test ride? My friends were pleasantly surprised with the Hot Cross Buns and they went down a treat (_*not*_ like a ton of bricks 🤣)

I left school in 1974 too. Hard to believe half a century has passed since. Whereabouts in the UK will you be visiting this year?

The very loose plan is: Essex, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, North Wales, Essex, home over about 7 days... If you're anywhere near any of those places we can have a beverage and a pie at some suitable hostelry.

Good idea. I'm in Essex, not far from Mersea Island, so hopefully we can link up when you are in the county.

Very interesting, I do love a deau.. I have had a few 700s one with the non adjustable (mechanical) screen and one with the sliding affair (post 07 iirc) also both my bikes had iffy latches on the pannier lids .. a weak design by Honda but probably not helped by neglect and road grime sticking to grease applied by previous owners? How are your catches on the panniers , oh yes and the plug caps I had a misfire which was rectified by new caps Thanks for sharing your magnificent machine I am in awe at how many miles she’s done in your ownership and how sweet she sounds a credit to you no doubt

When I got the Deauville new in 2010 I joined a couple of Deauville Forums and the main topic of discussion was the pannier latches. The consensus was that you needed to close the lids carefully, not slam them and, if they didn't close correctly, investigate and solve the problem or they would break. I took this advice to heart and, I've had nearly no problems with the latches. I have managed to crack the plastic on the inside of the lid where the catches attach with 2 screws. Baking Powder and superglue fixed that. The left hand side one, which I open and close a minimum of 4 times a day (usually well over 10 times a day), is getting tired. I will remove the plastic body panel and investigate at some point when it's raining but a bit warmer in the garage.

@@riderramblings well that not bad after that many cycles !, yes I hear slamming them is not the way to, I watched an American chap on you tube who had one and said the same thing I believe he still has his one to form many many years ago

You'd think they'd phase them in in some way to avoid the possibility of capacity being swamped. We don't get reminders here anymore unless we voluntarily sign up for them. However, since the road tax renewal date for a vehicle will often coincide with the MOT date, you'll pretty quickly find out if you've forgotten to renew the MOT, since you can't tax the vehicle (once it's 3 years old) without a current MOT. I'm impressed by the amount of space drivers were leaving from the car in front in this video!

To Parisians, filtering is the norm so they tend to give you space. It's the out-of-town vehicles you have to watch. I've become adept at spotting out-of-town plates so I'm a more wary around them. It seems we're being given for the 15th April to 14th August inclusive to get older Motos Controle Techniqued. I believe that the FJR doesn't require a Controle Technique until the end of May 2025.

Geoff, good luck with the next batch. Did you get the recipe in Estonia or just trying to recreate it?

@@riderramblings it was a recipe online , I went to a cafe called røst, they were not keen on sharing the recipie 😂, it seems they originate from Sweden, with baking there are so many variables with ingredients, temperature, moisture etc it’s a bit of a lottery , I also cook homemade pizzas in my ooni pizza oven which are always successful every now and then i flook upon a “happy accident” and try to replicate it which does not always work. Anyhow I’m off to work , have a great day

I had a couple of BMWs in the early naughties and while I liked the boxer engine, I was very unimpressed with the durability of the finish of the bikes overall. I dare say they have upped their game since and, ironically, the nearest bike dealership to me by far these days is a BMW franchise. But I'm too old to be laying out money for that sort of thing now. I've never been in France over Paques - do they go for chocolate eggs there?
